WW1 naval warfare was crazy and very short in terms of combat, you had naval admirals afraid to commit warships into combat due to the very reason of subs sinking them. Listen to Dan Carlin hardcore history he has a multi part podcast covering WW1.

Imagine if wargaming used a WOW game engine to make a warship gunner like game, build ur own ships and sail the seas doing missions, then a multiplayer game where people can compete with their own builds and the like.

Going back to the Q ships. The German navy also had Merchant raiders which followed a similar idea to the Q ships, but instead of sneaking into convoys and blowing stuff up, they would essentially act as pirates, they would get close enough to a lone ship, show off their guns, take the crew and as much as they can carry, and then sink it. They also had mines onboard to blockade enemy ports. And they could go VERY far out, with one going down to South Africa, laying mines, and then the captain decided to go even further into the Indian ocean. In WW2 this was also done with one ship going as far as Australia and going toe to toe with an Australian destroyer, and while the Germans technically lost the fight, the Destroyer would eventually sink, being lost with all hands due to the sheer amount of damage the Germans guns were able to do.
