For a malevolent leader with a god complex, Megatron has a lot of patience for Star Scream. I'm surprised he didn't kill him in the first episode of all Transformer series.
Megatron only tolerates Starscream because (in my opinion) Megatron knows that Starscream could be a pretty powerful guy if given the right circumstances but if Megatron is there to keep him in check and on the side of the Decepticons, Starscream never gets that chance so even if he left the Decepticons, he would be far too afraid of Megatron to do much.
Well if you ask me the idw g1 comics justified it pretty well. That Megatron has said that having someone as untrustworthy as Starscream as his second in command serves as a constant reminder for him to watch his back.
@@Devils_Lair_Comics While Frank did voice Megatron in G1 and Prime, and did a good job as both, he just doesn't have that marvelous and devilish voice Corey Burton delivers when he portrays his Megatron. At least for me
I love his laugh in prime, his sarcasm, one liners, his voice is amazing. I love Megatron in prime. He is this type of evil that fits so well! I love Megatron!

14:43 I loved this. Megatron knows Starscream's being so well. He knew that Starscream is always motivated by the thoughts of glory. He knew that the the clones would destroy each other to get it as nothing is more glorious than being the second in command of the decepticons only surpassed by being the leader. He knew that he could get in their heads
But it didn’t work, though. They were going to shoot him but something made them fall over? Idk what it was but Megatron’s plan just made them hesitate for a second.
Tbh the original Megatron was such a generic villain, but the TFP Megatron has everything a true Megatron needs. He is not completely evil, manipulative, a strong, furious and reckless warlord, yet respectful and honorable towards his loyal followers.

Unfortunately, Starscream got to Orion Pax and called him Optimus Prime. If it weren’t for him, Orion would still be within the ranks of the Decepticons.
A bite late but I agree. Even when the writing fails him, the voice actor goes out of his way to make something out of it. Shame I can’t say the same for Optimus outside of a few exceptions. Cullen is automatically removed because it’s fricking Peter Cullen.

@@nataniel1002 You're right, having one person or group in control makes for an efficient system because whatever they want happens on the spot. However, what happens inevitably is that they become corrupted by such power and resort to seer oppression rather than being a stern leader. Which will lead to rebellions or protests, weakening the country and opening them up to being conquered. Sometimes a new group or person will successfully replace the old but cycle will repeat nonetheless. Look at how corrupted Mexico has been. Or how inefficient France is due to it's people's unrest in the past. I was just commenting on the hypocrisy of obtaining peace through tyranny.

I love how most of Megatron's greatest quotes were because of Starscream. How Megatron tolerated that conniving, backstabbing, lying traitor live for so long is beyond me. Maybe he loves beating Starscream up, or he enjoys seeing how stupid and entertaining he can be. Urban dictionary is right in calling Starscream "Megatron bitch" cause he is. Gotta love the original and Prime versions, their easily the best versions of the glorious decepticon ruler. "You couldn't lead a parade" is his best one ever.

Megatron comments in the original series that starscream is lucky the cause is more important than he is. Starscream is unreliable yes, but he is predictable, a brilliant scientist (even in the original series) and the 2nd most powerful decepticon in combat (in the movie, he won a FFA brawl featuring devastator), and can fly. - Megatron knows he is too useful to get rid of and Megatron knows he can control him by just yelling at him, or shooting him if he ever succeeds in taking over, so starscream is not a true threat, but a great asset.

Commend you Mr Welker for your very best character out the 1000 that you have voiced. Frank Welker's acting as Megatron as the blood thirsty war lord and Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime as the compassionate, gentle monarch of all good transformers will not be truly easily replaced when they retired from voice acting. They made these character who they are. Hope Hasbro knows this. Jake Tillman as OP in Cyberverse sounds at lot like a younger Peter Cullen, so they did understand how much of a mark Peter Cullen made as the character.
From what I gather, _Prime_ Megatron is the Cybertronian equivalent of a 70- or 80-year-old man. So it's doubly impressive that he can still hold his own... and then some.

he keeps him around because Starscream keeps Megatron sharp and alert and while Scream tries to over throw megatron, no one else will, because start scream is trying it rn so if he kills start scream someone else will take his place someone megatron might not now how they would try to over throw him
Laltluangliana Sailop yes, especially in the design department. Most of the bayformers are ugly asf. They deadass made Starscream look like a chicken, and I know he is one, but they really didn’t have to do him like that tho-
Laltluangliana Sailop yeah, it’s sad these shows only end up with 3 or less seasons because they’re good shows (design, plot, and animation-wise) yet underrated. I feel like the Bayverse didn’t utilize or design the characters as well as TF:Prime, the Bumblebee movie, and Cyberverse did.
I think a reason why Megatron might keep starscream around is because Megatron can make it seem like he's too strong to overthrow, when really it's starscream's incompetence that prevents that. Starscream is harmless enough that he makes a great example for anyone who wants to topple him.
My favourite part of that was directly after that when Starscream narrowly avoids having Shockwave gouge his eye out by playing off his backstabbing as the reason for their discovery of new cybermatter, Megatron just says ‘Excellent teamwork.’ right after Shockwave relents.
"I honed my skills in the pits of Kaon!" Every time I hear that name I instinctively misspell it as "K-on" in my head. I am unsure whether or not that makes Lord Megatron look less impressive, or even more awe-inspiring for surviving. :D

Frank Welkers performance got better when he returned in Prime. Well he voice Megatron in the licence games for the first and second movie by Michael bay but he became much better in prime
The different versions of Megatron have brought their own strengths and weaknesses. G1 is classic goofy villainy, animated had to survive on cunning alone for a loooong stretch of episodes, the final arc of Armada's character is a neat touch, and prime is chilling, powerful, and complex.
