Ironside Saga #3 The news of multiple victories against the skaven including the capture of the Hell-Pit and the most recent victory by Rangni Hammerfist was warmly welcomed by Morgris and Undur. They enjoyed spreading the news further to the army, and now they find themselves in position to add one more victory to this list as they ambush another skaven army in the underway. With the previous victories further west having eliminated the main sources of skaven in the area, denied the skaven a place to seek shelter, and killed off many skaven, the two brothers are confident that victory here will be the end of their skaven problem. "They certainly didn't expect to see us here," Undur laughs as the skaven march towards his army. "We cannot let these vermin escape south, not only so they cannot come back to cause more trouble for us but also so they cannot negatively impact our kin. In that regard, it is good that we were able to bring in two more units worth of gyrocopters. Let's hope that they perform as well here as they did in our last battle." Morgris responds with a simple nod and then takes to the skies with the intent of repeating what he did in the last battle albeit without having any additional pathways that need to be blocked. This time, the only way for the skaven to go is straight at him and his brother's army. Using the space that this section of the underway provides, Morgris sends twenty four gyrocopters to the left flank while he takes the other twenty four including himself to the right. Like the previous battle, the dwarf ranks march forward but at a slower rate and traverse a shorter distance until the stop and let the skaven come to them. The quarrelers fire the first volley of the battle, forcing the skaven missile infantry to focus on them and allow Morgris and his pilots free reign to engage the skaven melee infantry. On both flanks of the skaven army, entire chunks of individual units perish in spouts of fire and clouds of steam. As many as twenty skaven soldiers from a single unit perish at a time from a single volley. Already the dawi have a prime opportunity to flank their enemy and attack from multiple sides which is sure to allow them to surround and destroy whole units on the battlefield in a matter of time once the melee begins. The slingers of the skaven army fight hard and true against the quarrelers once they can reach their opponent with their slung projectiles. They give everything that they can and do not relent even as bolts begin reducing their numbers at a subtle but nevertheless increasing rate. If not for their ammunition lacking the ability to do sufficient damage against an armored target, the skaven slingers may have done a great deal of damage in return to the quarrelers. However the armor of their enemy and the distance at which the slingers engage them means that this effort achieves little. After each unit drops one bomb on a skaven unit that hasn't been targeted with their ranged weapons, Morgris turns the attention of his pilots onto the skaven missile infantry when it engages in a full retreat. The quarralers manage to fire one more volley onto their targets and leave only a small number for their flying compatriots to hunt down and hunt them down they do. Because of the small size of their target, Morgris has his pilots use their ranged weapons and use them with care as to not waste valuable ammunition. He himself scores a direct hit on a skaven slinger and kills it instantly. After his successful shot, Morgris looks around him to inspect the situation and find another target, but finds that only a handful of the slingers are still alive and they will be dealt with shortly. He therefore turns his pilots back towards the main force of the skaven and is treated to the sight of seeing the skaven flanks being cut off from the center of the main force, progressively surrounded, and destroyed. Like the previous battle, Morgris and his pilots work with the quarrelers to ensure maximum skaven casualties and this effort proves to be much easier thanks to the larger number of skaven that the dwarf warriors manage to surround and trap. Following the battle, Morgris and Undur meet to discuss the situation and how they should proceed. "These two victories and those of our fellow dawi in the west should put an end to our skaven problem here in the east," Undur rests his hammer on the ground beside him with his right hand resting atop the end of the hammer's shaft. "I think that we can rest easy knowing that the swiftest routes east and south to our kin are safe and this in conjunction with the recapture of Sjoktraken means that the airbase is safe." Morgris nods, but his face tells his brother that he doesn't agree, at least not fully, "We certainly won't have to worry quite as much. However we will need to stay vigilant and not take anything for granted because as long as this army is away, the airbase is only lightly defended." On this, Undur agrees, "I am doing what I can to increase our numbers and I do have some good news in this regard. Though there is a chance that it may not happen, I am looking to add four units of rangers to our ranks so we can leave the quarrelers at the base if this army needs to leave to face a threat. It isn't a solution to the problem, but it will be a step towards one if I do in fact get my hands on these rangers."

Your Slayer with two axes running rings around the rat-lord, is one of my fac scenes from your videos... brilliant... Besides your usual high quality narrating, your sound effects in this instace are spot on 🙂

Naughty little ratties stealing your settlement, no more cheese for them. I recommend also checking Diplo with Kislev, Katarina and Boris might be open to more deals. Katarina has also been trespassing into your territory to chase the Skaven as you don't have Military Access with each other. It's extremely worth getting as both of you are likely going to be fighting together in the West against Norsca and Azazel and in the East against Chaos Dwarfs and potentially Daemon Prince so you'll have to travel into each other's territory quite a bit.

I think Lionheart sees himself in that chasing Deamon Slayer :D

just so you know Lionheart, the formations only work until your unit gets into meele combat, they then switch off

The reason manual firing for catapults is not easy is because the Catapult Operator Works unionised and demanded it made difficult in games because "Not any Tim, Dick, or Harry can do this job... it's not just a click of a button, you know!"

Taking your units off guard mode while chasing down kills helps them connect their attacks, something to do with it canceling the attack command after one attack

Does AR take into account ancilleries with attributes like "reduced reinforcement time for allies" or "increased reinforcement time for enemies"? Anyone tried that out? And what do the units say? "It's a wreckoning." or "It's a rattening."? 😄 Losing (on purpose) to make a bigger revenge, that's the Dawi way. Lionheart manual artillery almost as good as manual cav. 🤪
