I had 3 cannons when i fought him the first time, i just had them target down blood knights, vargeihsts, and then him in that order 😅 he made it within range of my 4 handgunners and 3 ironsides, and thats when he died, on the first volley. it was *glorious*

Totally Warhammer 3: The High Elves set an ambush right in front of one of their weak armies which boxed me in and if I retreated, I would retreat into an army. It was devastating and I was not ready. I swear that the A.I. is learning my moves.

Why not send Theoderich to besiege Fort Oberstyre and send an attack order to Elspeth's army to block the pass of Vlad von Carstein, take Fort Oberstyre and rejoice if Vlad attacks? Also, a defensive alliance with Clan Abgrund may prove useful against Skrag the Slaughterer

Legitimately the first CA product I've veen excited about, and bought, since immortal enpires came out, and currently enjoying my own Elspeth play through, thanks in no small part to these series! Malakai is next.

I remember a fight against the germans in Rome:Remastered where 3 units of pikes set themselfes atop a hill in a triangle formation and I was completely out of missiles. The three units of pikes were all that was left of the german host that attacked me, but these pikes wouldn't rout or do anything that I could exploit. I finally defeated them by charging the small gaps in their formation, unfortunately I lost a lot of soldiers doing that ;_;

i think you should start the offensive first, take Fort Oberstyre with your second army, and then put your main army in the reinforcing distance to see how Vlad react, your next response would depends on how Vlad react to your movement, if he attack you, you win, if he starts swinging around, you will have enough time to repositioning.

Against the Vamps, I always prioritize the Crypt Ghouls using my ranged units. They go down fast, but can easily blend your front line if they reach it.

I was playing as lizards in W3 Lustria and Tyrion declared war on me, didnt pay much attention but next turn 4 full stacks landed all over my northern shore, lost 4 settlements all at the same time. It looked like I was in the wrong side of Dday.

The smartest move by AI would be crashing your campaign. It can't lose if you can't play.

The Gotrek and Felix fight is against Slaanesh because in the first chapter of TrollSlayer, they fight a Slaaneshi coven on Geheimnisnacht (an equivalent to Halloween). Also Vlad seems overtuned at the moment. No way a level 20 foot lord should be able to walk straight into 3 units of handguns, backed by an engineer and spirit leech caster with melee infantry protecting them, and just casually out heal the damage whilst mowing them down. Also also, should he not have crumbled in that battle? How was he still leading the army after?

Looking forward to seeing that Dragon in action, apparently there's a bug where it can be stolen by the enemy if you're defeated though which is unfortunate. Both the Von Carstein lords are such tanks though, Vlad is a solo army basically and even Isabella can hold up to tons of abuse. I'd just go steamroll Fort Oberstyre, you need to keep pushing against him whenever possible as he'll just keep coming back every next turn. If you wait you'll probably have to face him again twice in sieges which is far from ideal.

Something that I have notice watching your campains is that lionheart focus in the economy quite hard. I'm pretty sure in the campaign of Malakai Makaisson you dont have any military besides the one in the big slayer globe hahaha. I have two suggetions, the first is make Averlhaim your main military hub, besides the war machinnes because Nul is better in that. Or al least starting building some military building. Perhaps Averlhaim is quite far from the front but the economic value of two settlements region is not that high. The second is a full ofensive agains Daddy Vlad. I see two fronts, north and south. The south will halt because, as you say, is pain taking the capital. The north is more strategyc value because is more easy to take and mayhaps is where the vampires rise their crypt guard. from how many times you laugh there, i know that you probably slightly enjoy Malakai's campaign more, but honestly, this Elspeth campaign is more entertaining to me considering the amount of consideration and strategy you need to think about here, the stake are also higher here, Vlad is hella powerful , and that's why you should be wiser in using your armies, great campaign m8, i really hope we could see far more of this in the future.

So sweet how you can take the time to rethink strategy at the gates of a massive battle in the beginning of this episode, and retreat to an even better position !! I say take down Vlad to 1 settlement and just Fram him for xp

You only had 20 casualties due to friendly rocket fire in the last battle (deaths vs. kills by enemy troops). I would go for the Fort, because that makes it also very difficult for Vlad to disrupt any possible attack on Wurtbad or Niedling. The way to go about it, I would follow the advice already given, siege with the second army have Elspeth in reinforce range for "autoresolve slam dunkness" and than move Elspeth in front of them to block Vlad or in ambush in range of Fort Oberstyre if you want to take the fight with him. P.s. I am supposed to have a life Lionheart, this is 2 too good series not to follow religiously... Well done mate.

I agree you should recruit as much as you can before fighting Vlad, Vlad is one of the strongest fighters in the whole game and the auto resolve doesn't give him the credit he deserves. I agree that you should send the weaker army to attack Fort Oberstyre and take it use the funds to recruit the regiments of renown maybe a lord if you can afford it and attack Vlad if you can wipe out the grave guards and Cariyn wraiths you have a chance to take his capital and cripple him for quite a while.

First minute gang

I’d suggest sending theodrich in to attack the fort. Then Elspeth can go after Vlad. Also playing catch up from the last several episodes, the empire captains are good hero’s to pair with huntsman generals. They are fairly tanky to pair with the squishy huntsman. Plus eventually getting to fly is good for killing artillery. Besides that, I use them to scout.

Gotta give them the purple sun collateral damage can be remembered when you get the pale scythe.

Morr Elspeth! So much for being unstoppable. The victory may be pyrrhic, but Vlad suffered so much more. Commendable job dealing with such a greater force and coming out on top.

Well, I don't have any particularly memorable incident other than the occasional heroic victory when being hopelessly outnumbered and only winning by clever kiting (or hiding behind walls), but every time the ai does manage to get an ambush off, it does show that not just the ai itself falls prey to the good old honeypot tactic, but it works just as well on the player. Does Vlad not have a healing cap? And you could peace out with him and ten turns later extort one of the factions he is at war with for some money to go back at war with him. And if you are really keen on manually fighting battles, there are always the quest battles. Poor reinforcements, didn't get a chance to join the fray.

Why do my ambushes almost always fail? Whether it is 50% or 80%... they fail. It is seriously annoying, really. so maybe I do not understand this percentage chance related to the ambush situations correctly.

Diary of a freshman handgunner: Got stuck in with Vlad again. This time he came out from behind his walls to slap us around. While the polearms ran, we held firm and sent the scourge running for his unlife before delivering sigmars justice into his cowardly back

Hey Lionheart I know you don’t do mods that seem unfair but I would recommend the one that removes the increase in schematics you have to pay to unlock Amethyst units. During my campaign I found those increases made those units too expensive to be worth it and that the base costs were perfectly reasonable

I’m playing Balthazar and I have gunners, artillery, and a few front line units. My first battle my gunners absolutely melted the enemy hero. It was love at first shot.

It's kind of weird to me that this works. If the army besieging the town leaves and comes to this battle, wouldn't that mean the garrison could then come help also? What's stopping them?

A strange thing.. have never really played the Vamp Pirates, though I hugely enjoy their presence. Now:: Noctilus. First battle. Have one omb-dude... the exploding dude, right? Well.. he expåloded. Yay. This time, however, the Dead Rise Again brought the Bomb-dude back to life with like one HP or something...? I have never before seen that!

Super interesting batttle between Elspeth and Væad (2,7k vs 3.7k). Thanks! The undead are strongest if they can break your lines, I think. Had Imrik with approx 1600 win vs Ghorst with approx 7500.. that was rather desparate, if I recall the battle correctly! 🙂 It was an early army tech-wise. Mostly spear, archers, one Dragon Prince, and one sun dragon. The AI impressed me a bit here, actually, since it focussed attacks on the anchor points of my line of spears and the block of cliffs. That was the weakest point in the defense, so clere play by skeletons, zombies, ghouls, etc.

"What is the move the AI has played .. surprised you..." The forces of Chaos had reduced Reikland to one measly city. It was defended by a weak army and a small garrison. I played Vlad. Believe it was WH II. Was allied with Reikland. Could only supply one army to the oncoming battle. So two strong Chaos forces vs one weak Empire and one von Carstein /without Vlad and without Isabella). I needed the AI/Empire force to stand in positions and do targeted shooting against the Chaos forces, while my excellent zombies and black knights and fell bats rushed around the Imperial riflemen, protecting them - the most important outcome of the battle was that the Imperial forces survived - not that my Vampiric forces did. And it worked! I eneded up with one Vamp lord... ONE. And nothing else. WHile the Empire had a rifle regiment and perhaps a noble or a lord as well. ALL the rest of the Chaos forces and our forces had been killed/destroyed. Sady, I do not have the replay file. WOuld love to see this again. The big surprise: The Empire AI forces were played really rather intelligently in this battle.

The one things that impresses me the most from my experiences... Drakenhoff being besieged by an army with a solid mix of cannon, guns and infantry (mostly archers and spear), against at AI Vlad with Isabella and a solid undead army. I chose a tactics that would probably either disgust or bore everybody else 🙂 I shot them to smitherines. Slowly. Meticulously. First with artillery. Then with missile troops. It took three assaults this way before I finally could defeat Vlad and Isabella. During the first two attempts, Isabella was simply flying back and forth trying to make me waste ammo on her. Vlad constantly used the powers of his Ring of Carstein and was literally unkillable. During attempt one and two my infantry started to climb the walls. However, his presence and combat skills made it impossible for me. So I withdrew, making it a draw. After the second attempt, my general/lord got some negative trait. Perhaps for being undecisive. Not till the third attack, where Vlad and Isabella were the last and only defenders did my forces manage to destroy the pair. That was rather impressive to me 🙂

Love your videos! Just a small suggestion to maybe showcase the new regiments of renown a bit more? I know you usually do that diligently, but this time you forgot to showcase a rather cool RoR of spearmen you got in your army (I guess because you didn't know it's new?). I'm writing this just to make sure you know it's a new RoR in case you missed it (+ to boost the algorithm :D ). Looking forward to Carmine Dragon next video! Its breath is something special.

1/3 of the losses you suffered in that first battle was down to one guy. Man Vladdy is strong.

Use theoderic to take fort Oberstyre. Have Elspeth reinforce. He wont attack with both of you there and if he does easy win. Win win.

The mess hall will need a zombie check after thes.. Sire there are too many soldiers that want liver tonight.

So how does getting Gotrek and Felix work with Malakai starting with them permanently?

Great video! Part of the problem with the Vlad battle was line of sight for the hand gunners. All of them didn't get to fire on him at once. Good spot for the arty not so much for them. Plus he is a unit.

When I saw the episode title, I thought this one would be a series of defeats at the hands of Vlad.
