1:10 "And we've had droughts that still remain." My favourite part about your work is that it consistently validates how disappointing St Kilda is. I feel seen on this channel.
i’m 18 and it’s so sad to never have seen any success while my dad tells me about all the grand finals he went to and watched them win premiership after premiership
My Mum got to 45 without seeing any success from Melbourne then last year happened. Have faith, your boys will get there soon, especially with the start the Blues are having. Every disappointment will make it so much better when you get one.
@@thejokingcat783 You're right, my dad was 58 and finally got to see the Bulldogs win one, him and my brother got to go to the Grand Final too, keep in mind he was 3 years old when they played in their last Grand Final and had seen about 8 Prelim losses. Droughts eventually break, it just takes time.
it's the end of 2022. We have a Brownlow winning captain, and a back to back Coleman from two different forewards. Yet we're the first team in decades to win the Brownlow and the Coleman without making finals. Just this once I let myself hope that maybe, just maybe, we could make finals. but one point. one point to Collingwood meant it was all for nothing.
@J G Except it won't be because it's a boring spectacle. Australians who grow up on AFL simply struggle to get into a sport that leaves their fans worried all match about the opposition scoring a goal instead of enjoying their own teams performance.
I am so glad you have made a video about the blues! I have been a fan all my life (born 2008) and it has been hard but people like you put light back to the glory days.
I’m heartbroken and that was 8 months ago I’m never gonna forget it I go to 12 fuckin games a year I’m litterely only 13 putting all my heart into Carlton and we fucking did that like if we don’t make the 8 in 2023 I’m done
Far out mate, your content is incredible. You always find the most interesting topics that are worthy of a look and your knowledge is almost unending. I’ll be keeping an eye on you, your stuff is class
WHO IS HERE AFTER WE WON A ELIMINATION FINAL AFTER 10 LONG YEARS I AM SO HAPPY IDC WHAT HAPPENS FROM HERE EDIT: WTF IS GOING ON WE WON THE SEMI IDK HOW THE HECK WE DID IT OFF TO BRISBANE
This (2024) could be our year. Or if it isn’t this year, the team is still young enough for next year, or the year after. Anyway, the present and future looks significantly less dark than the past. Hope they learned from that period and leave those years behind for good.
looking back on these trades, players that looked like a bust are now crucial to our team, Kennedy, martin, newman and Docherty just to name a few. kinda crazy how things can change in the space of a few years.
This is just brilliant, no one can really understand Carlton FC at the moment but with this sort of quality video we can all gain a little bit more perspective.
Pretty easy to understand, most underperforming club in last 20 year only club besides Gold Coast not to make a grandfinal, always overatting there list
Well this one really hit home but a great video! Really makes you wonder what makes some of these players tick. Hopefully next year is the year it turns around 🤞🏼
Gone for them my whole life, been pretty much every weekend since being able to take the train in. Been to 65 games since 2016, for just 14 wins. “The good old days” for me, was going in as an 8-13 year old and seeing us scrap it out for finals, been a rough old ride. I was born in late August 2000 and had it summed up when I was told the other day that I am one of the oldest AFL supporters around that wasn’t alive when their team last played a prelim. I turned 21 this year… I’ll still keep backing them though, because when it does turn, boy it’ll be the sweetest thing imaginable.
This is a well explained video. I am a Richmond supporter but my grandad was Carlton. I have read about the salary cap drama and all that but it is amazing to see a club like Carlton, the most successful, fall so badly over the last 20 year.
Though we are only 3 weeks into the season, Carlton looks pretty strong, top to bottom, through those 3 seasons. As a newcomer to the sport, anyone that has had long droughts of success are teams I will root for, as long as they aren't playing squad, the Pies.
It's just absolute peak Carlton to have the Brownlow medalist, Coleman medalist and be inside the 8 all season except for the last 30s of the last game. Just can't make that up
Omg yes these are so good!!! edit: I just watched the video and as a blues fan myself, I see carlton pushing for finals but as we all know, carlton will probably get their fans hopes alive for finals and just finish on their average of 13th on the ladder.
Seeing lots of negativity in these comments about Carlton's performance this year. And yes, it was frustrating to watch our mid-game fadeouts (Hawthorn and Port), losses to non-finalists we could have beaten (St KIlda, Gold Coast, and Adelaide), and that last-quarter fadeout against Collingwood that cost us a finals berth. But I think the assement of this year ought to be tempered with a serious look at our injury luck (or lack thereof). There was a period where we were losing at least one player a week this year and that can't be good for a rebuilding team under a first-year coach, with players in and out of the team all the time. In spite of that, we managed to stay competitive against some of the best teams in the league, knocking off four finals teams (including a top 4 team.) Even amongst the top 4, the only team that beat us comfortably was Geelong, who are capable of doing that to pretty much everyone (and if I recall correctly we were actually in front at quarter time.) Clearly the raw ability is there, so I think the problem with our club is more of a mental one. It's possible that for our list, the pressure this year was a new experience. After being at rock bottom for so long and starting off this year with an 8-3 record before the bye, maybe the pressure of being not just finals contenders - but top 4 potentials - was more than we were ready to handle. Hopefully our last game against Collingwood is a taste of what kind of pressure the players can expect (given that it was basically an Elimination Final for us.) Remember that we missed finals by the smallest of margins (a percentage difference of 0.3) and I think getting so close and missing out will be something that reallly drives the team next year. With some better injury luck and more consistent standards, I do think that the best is yet to come from this Carlton team.
The fact that blokes like Paddy Dow were getting a run tells you how bad things were for us in terms of depth. There was one point were we had literally every tall back out injured. Hopefully having Acres on the wing and a healthy back line will plug of those holes that rooted us this year. We desperately need to work on our delivery into the 50 this year. Too often we relied on high long bombs into the talls that resluted in rebounded goals against.
i would love a video about the early 2000's to mid 2010's richmond from going to 9th to last to 9th to last and thrn making finals finally just for us to kose in the elim each time. was a horrific time and you could go earlier into the time when richmond were almost voted out of the league
i started watching in 2013 and thought oh were kinda good... been shit ever since with a good team on paper but this year im definitely feeling optimistic after we finally beat the tigers in the opening round GO BLUES
Ross Lyon didn't want the job because we didn't just give it to him. Personally i think this was for the best as you said, those that worked hard seem to thrive at Carlton.
I’m a massive blues fan am I think this is definitely true. I live the boys all the way and I couldn’t love em more but sometimes it just brakes you. I’d reckon it’s pretty fair to say that the blues v rubbis- I mean pies rivalry is definitely on top at the moment (I think you all know why and I really don’t think I want to mention). But I reckon we will finally finish in the 8 for the first time in 10 years this year.
Would be an awesome vid to talk on hawthorns dominance from 2011 -2015 as they hit a prelim loss by 5 grand final loss by 10 than absolutely dominate the next 3 grand finals would be an awesome and interesting video to see
I’m a blues fan myself and was a mess of a club for 2 decades making lots of poor decisions by sacking trading out players to be great at other clubs, I’d say the 2021 off season was the best thing that’s happened in recent memory
Born in 97 into a Carlton family, been a member since I turned 18. I felt like Malthouse was the wrong the hire, we were too early to fire Bolton and Teague was the wrong hire. A lot of it seemed to come across as money saving moves from the board which was very disappointing. Very glad that we cleared some of the board out. I think that Voss is most definitely the man to lead us to the future and I hope he has the same impact that Beveridge has at the Dogs. 2022 is going to most definitely be an exciting year but I’m not expecting us to go blazing into finals straight away. Just also wanted to say we were happy to let Kennedy go for Judd back then because he was having to play behind Fev and Waite, we thought those 2 would be at the club a lot longer than they did but I’m happier we have McKay playing the way he is now.
The problem with Carlton was, their past under the late Jack Elliott was a culture of buying flags, they forgot how to build a side from youth. Their last three flags were check book premierships. All other clubs built sides from scratch and pouched a couple of players to put the finishing touch to their lists.
@@adrianbarichievich7756 No, this is simply true. That's why after 95 the Carlton FC was penalised. That's why some players came forward and said we received under the table payments. 95, etc, etc were cheque book premierships.
@@michaelcipriano1713 you not a carlton supporter and i dont trust outsiders u are making very angry because that is abloutetly not true those make me angry it is not true for fuck sake i get angry over the 95 flag that we cheated not bloody true
