If you want to do the cheat code in the HDC Steam version without the penalty prompt, create a clean save file and locate it then use a hex editor on the save file and manipulate some data in it.

A whole Devil May Cry series is only make me disappointed in one thing - Vergil 's story line, we seems having to pay more for DLC just to get Vergil with Dante's story line which is weird cause even DmC 2013 with new game studio. They actually gave us a true Vergil's story line, until now, i still don't know why Capcom did not do the same thing as it should be like DmC especially for the price we pay for DLC where Vergil is playable.

I do hope that whenever we get Devil May Cry 6: Special Edition, we are allowed to play as Vergil in his OWN story mode instead of following everything Dante did because it would make the replayability more fun than it already is
