Singapore football team of the 70s I salute you. Despite no live telecast only live commentary broadcast over the radio I stood steadfast with the Singapore team in all the Malaysia Cup matches. Most of the time you were playing against 12 to 14, not 11, opponent players in an unlevel playing field. Yet you were not intimidated or discouraged but persistent in winning the games. You were the greatest in the history of Singapore football.

It wasn't this goal that made us cry but the goal before this by Nasir Jalil, the crazy horse. Just when we thought it is another lost year again after trailing 2-1, the crazy horse scored and made us shed tear of relief. Quah made us joy again after seeing him scored the 3rd goal. The most emotional game for all Singaporeans football fan.

Let me describe what the Kallang Roar was like. The roar did not come from a goal scored. The roar came every time A Lion player had possession. This will never be repeated. Whenever a game was played at the old National Stadium, the spectator numbers always exceeded the stadium's capacity because we climbed up the surrounding iron gate walls. Girls were doing it with their boyfriends while dressed in mini skirts. Surprisingly, no men bothered to take a second closer look. All were too focused on getting in. My school was next to the Jalan Besar Stadium and we will skip school and crossed over to watch the early morning practice. Some lucky classmates got jerseys from the players.

I was 18 years old when the Malaysian cup 1977 took place.. How crazy I was getting the newspaper to read about all.. 😁No doubt I was a Malaysian supporter as I had some lovable icons at that point of time in Malaysian team.. who were superb players.. Yet the Singaporean teams were strong and tactful... Those were the days we sat to watch football because we had brothers crazy abt football.. Gosh the moment of enjoyment those long gone era of football.. Only memories left😊❤️

As a Singaporean I’m so proud of our boys in 1977 even if I have no idea how soccer is played!! And of course there was a respected mentor/coach! No one was individualistic yet everyone was an individual who could play on their own right and as a team!! The way it was sort of is a symbol of how Sg is run as a country !! 🇸🇬 Majulah Singapura!!

I grew up in Kelantan. 1971 - 78...everytime Spore played Ktan in Kota Bharu, they would practice at the football pitch I played in my teenage years ie at the KB Teachers Training College in Pengkalan Chepa KB...there I saw at close the Spore players honing their skills especially S Rajagopal The Inswinger specialist...of course the strict disciplinarian 'Uncle Soo'...

We had 70,000 spectators in a 55,000 seat stadium at all matches. All the footpath steps are packed full. We gate crash to get in without the tickets. Tickets was sold out once it’s was put on sale. How many spectators we have today? p.s. I remember we were looking for tickets from TP stadium to Queenstown stadium from midnight till 4am. All ticket sold out! Due to the crowd waiting to buy tickets opening at 8am, at mid-night the ticket were put on sale. Hard to believe if you were not there than.

That year under coach Choo Seng Quee Singapore regained the Malaysia Cup they last won in 1965 ironically under Seng Quee too. Singapore's victory was already anticipated as Seng Quee's charges had knocked out the defending champions Selangor 4-2 on aggregate in the two leg semifinals. As such the bets were on Singapore winning and regaining the Malaysia Cup even days prior to the final. As for Penang they had every reason to fear as Seng Quee had already plotted their downfall in the final. Yes that 1977 Malaysia Cup final had everything and went to the wire in extra time. There were no question as to who were the better team in the entertaining and enthralling 120 minutes of football.Yes Nasir Jalil got the winner for Singapore in extra time and for the first time since 1965 the Malaysia Cup crossed the causeway.

Yes Sazali , Very Nostalgic Times when we didn’t need Instructions & Laws to guide us … Am just wondering, Why don’t You try make a Video of Lee Kuan Yue’s Bad habits so we can try understand what happened to Singapore that we now suddenly cannot openly Discuss Racial issue ? ie. Amongst others , Lee Kuan Yue’s known Bad Habits should include Land Grab , Destroying not only Political adversaries But also influential Ppl , Families and sometimes even entire Communities . And let’s not forget LKY’s penchant of trying to play Robbin Hood & sometimes even God .😊

Such was the "SINGAPORE SOUL n SPIRIT" that PAP killed over the years after pulling out from Malaysia Cup by PAP "Mahboro"!!!
