Today we are talking about The Greatest LEGO Pirates Faction ... no, it's not the Imperial Soldiers, Imperial Armada or the Islanders ... that's right, it's the Imperial Guards, a faction that was present in 1992, 1993, 1994 & 1995 as well as with the 2009 LEGO Pirates theme. Join Richie from OurToyWorld on LEGO Pirates Retrospect as he talks about the lore behind the greatest LEGO Pirates faction!

I see the Imperial Soldiers as French, and the Imperial Guards are English. While the Imperial Armada is obviously Spanish.

My head cannon is that the imperial soldiers are the French, the guard the British, the armada the Spanish, the islanders natives obviously, with the pirates pirating around the Caribbean and running into multiple factions on their adventures. This reflects history as well because the 3 European powers held multiple possession within the Caribbean. I can’t tell you how many guards and soldiers I bought on eBay growing up to stage epic Napoleonic line battles.
@KixSlim
@KixSlim 11 месяцев назад
Also the soldiers had the added benefit of subbing in as American revolutionaries when swapping the shako for a tricorn
@jame9277
@jame9277 Год назад
Instead of the two factions being different nations I think they're part of the same empire, with the imperial soldiers being the sovereign and the imperial guard being a private trading company based off the British East India Company.
@OurToyWorld
@OurToyWorld Год назад
That’s fascinating- definitely makes sense. New El Dorado fortress set confirms they exist alongside each other!
@thierryandries1448
@thierryandries1448 11 месяцев назад
Then they must both be the French? Or else how do you explain the fleur de lys Then again there definitely are Spanish so it might well just be representing the 3 nations most prominent in the Caribbeans
@Masterchief_Tito
@Masterchief_Tito 11 месяцев назад
I highly doubt that tho. Out of historical accuracy I am pretty sure that the red coats are the UK and the blue coats are the french.
@jame9277
@jame9277 11 месяцев назад
@@thierryandries1448 I don"t think they're french, british, or any real world nation, They're just based on them. Like how Lego city is it's own city within the lego setting and not a representation of a real city

I think the imperial guard is like some sort of special forces group, like the old guard for the frenchs, they might have been send by the empire and replace the imperial soldiers becuase of the pirates being to effective. That would be a interesting reason why they might have won agaisnt the pirates being more experienced.
@hanzocloud

2009 already had upgraded hats with gold and red on it too, so Eldorado fortress using plain all black hats for the soldiers is a step backwards..
@F1stzz
@F1stzz Год назад
There are quite a few steps being made backwards in the aforementioned set, lol
@OurToyWorld
@OurToyWorld Год назад
I think the reason why they’re using plain black hats is because that’s what the imperial soldiers looked like back in the day. Still though, it’s a REMAKE, not a direct rerelease. Not sure why they couldn’t give fans better hats

I think there's something important to consider While yes, the British are known for their red coats, however their navy wore blue coats. My personal head canon for all this is that The Imperial Soldiers are the primary military, they're doing their thing, posting in forts and what not. But when the pirates became a problem, the Imperial guard was established to focus on combating pirates.

I like to think that the imperial flagship marks the end of captain brick beard and that the imperial guards were transporting him to be executed for his crimes against the imperial crown and that his crew and ship were defeated by the imperial guards earlier on and that they were sailing away into the sunset as the brick bounty burned and sunk beneath the waves with the crew left behind to drown or get eaten by sharks and is probably the reason why he is never seen again in the next wave of pirate sets since his crew is dead and he has no one to come to rescue him from the imperial guards leaving him to be trapped with a horrible fate awaiting him when he arrives at the imperial guards fort once at the fort he is led to a court house where he is sentenced to death by hanging he is then dragged to a cell where he spends the night and then in the morning he is led to a crowd of people who are gathered to watch him hang he is then greeted by the governor who then addresses the crowd while a noose is put around his neck the governor then points to the executioner who pulls the lever which drops him he dangles for a few seconds then suffocates and dies the crowd then cheers since he is a pirate the imperial guards toss his lifeless body into the ocean instead of giving him a proper burial and watch as sharks feed off it the governor smiles as he watches the sunset over the ocean thinking how he has finally put an end to brickbeards reign of terror in the Caribbean kind of dark but pirates didn’t get happy endings in real life like they do in movies
@F1stzz
@F1stzz Год назад
LMAO, dude, you've really got carried away with this one 😂 Ngl tho, this is a great argument to why we haven't seen Brickbeard ever since the Imperial Flagship release! Actually, I'd like to add something to your statement here: the last set in the 2009 Pirates lineup was 6253 "Shipwreck Hideout". The box art for this set depicts 2 Imperial Guards arriving to the Brickbeard's hideout, which was built (well, funny enough) upon the shipwreck. But what can also be seen in the right corner of that box art is a silhouette of a big ship anchored nearby! Given what you've said here, sir, I guess it's safe to say the hideout was built upon the shipwreck of the Brickbeard's Bounty, which has gotten into the storm or was hunted down by the Imperial Flagship (or maybe the former was a direct consequence of the latter, lol), that's why the location of this hideout was eventually tracked down by Imperial Guards, two of whom went to do some sort of recon, got their аssеs kicked while doing so (as we can see in the comic provided within the instruction manual of 6253), then returned back to the Imperial Flagship, reported everything to Governor Tierney (the 2009 Governor's name according to Brickipedia) - and the rest of what you've suggested followed 😁 DANG, I feel like we've discovered some fine storytelling behind 2009 Pirates wave here 😂

I have always favored the Bluecoat Soldiers sets. Better equipment and figures in most sets. I don't like that Lego felt it necessary to include Pirates in most of the Imperial sets in general. Both factions were already significantly outnumbered as it was to begin with.
