I'd be willing to bet the classic Tetris community wouldn't exist at all without Jonas. Every other name from the early days absolutely contributed, but had Jonas not been here, I really don't think it would have ever gained traction.
Either it never would've or it would've taken a lot longer then it did.. at the minimum he brought it into the forefront much sooner than it otherwise would've been... all tetris skills aside he was such a nice cool individual. They really don't make people like him.
ya know, considering the final piece BlueScuti needed to crash the game was a J piece, I'd like to think that it was Jonas reaching from beyond the grave to give him the game crash
It was such a shock to see the news of his passing. He really got me into competitive Tetris, and taught me how to play at a higher level. I’ll always appreciate what he did and who he was. A true legend. Truly the greatest of all time
We need to keep these types of videos up to show why Jonas is forever the GOAT of Classic Tetris. Already seeing younger members of the community disputing the fact that Jonas is the greatest to play the game. Not only for his championship dominance but most importantly his dedication to grow the community. Records get broken, new play styles are developed, and the talent continues to evolve at a shocking pace, but no player will ever have the impact on the game like Jonas did.
As a modern tetris player who has a lot of respect for much of the classic community, the level of accuracy and dedication put into this video is immaculate
actually so well made, its been so long since ive watched a video about the whole story and this made me cry and got chills so much. this was genuinely extremely well made congrats and it deserves to popoff on yt
Absolutely incredible, thank you so much. I would love to see more videos like these focusing on other players or maybe just the recent tetris scene in general, there's a lot that has happened recently. You made an amazing video, hoping to see more :)
I'm heavily invested in the Modern Tetris scene, formerly playing in and now hosting tournaments for it. It is completely accurate to say that I would not be anywhere close to as invested in the game without Jonas' presence, introducing me to classic and modern tetris alike, always treating folks like me like family. Ever since his passing, anything I would do would be in his name, trying to push the scene in a positive direction. I'm so proud of the classic players for pushing the game and the competitive scene to such heights, and I can't wait to see where everything goes. LYMYMI, Jonas
Great video. His final tournament victory came over Eric, who later won the CTWC. As a player in my 30's, I like to joke that Jonas' last act was to prove that the younger generation is fallable. He was a class act, not elitest in the slightest.
yooooo eurofriendlies at 18:01 I'm famous ezpz Also damn this is a good video. Criminal it only has 100 views. Hopefully is gets big because you really told the story well.
This showed up on my page. Last night I started watching Jonas first twitch streams from 2017. He is sorely missed. When they changed the trophy to a J in his honour was the best.
I already teared up during the news coverage bits of Blu Scuties game crash. Jonas was such a loveable person (no offense Harry), I'm glad I got to know of him thanks to "Boom Tetris" Jeff and the youtube algorithm in 2016. Thanks for the video and good luck with your RU-vid channel!
Good man with a good story. Deserves a lot of telling. LYMYMI Friend. If I wasn't not drinking due to surgery recovery I'd be raising a glass right now.
Jonas is a legend of the game. Sure, many greats came after him and beat his records, but his dominance in his error was unmatched. Parallels could be made to Bobby Fischer in chess and Pete Sampras in tennis.
Jonas would be floored if he saw how the game has evolved. Im sure he is looking down on us from above with pride and joy ❤ RIP Jonas, you were always my favorite player! ❤
33:31 of course I show up at the hecking Fall Guys portion. I find myself missing Jonas dearly all the time. Phenomenal guy and really singlehandedly made 2020 a lot better for me. An amazing player and an even better friend to everyone in the community. LYMYMI.
One thing I'd like to comment on, you've been regarding NES Tetris as the "original" version of the game, it is not. It is simply one of the most well-known version of the game.
If Jonas had stayed in this world, and CTWC organizers had not buried his legacy and the whole DAS generation in favor of tapping / rolling, it's safe to say Jonas would have 10+ world titles by now. The guy could school the very best in DAS like he did with Greentea, and the very best in tapping like he did with Koryan. Jonas was the certified greatest of all time.
Wait, Jonas reached the kill screen? I thought the first time that ever happened was a few weeks ago. What is the difference between beating Tetris and getting a kill screen in Tetris?
Back in the day the killscreen was at level 29 and was the max top speed of the game, nowadays is at level 39 I believe, it has been reset artificially, patching the game rom by increasing to double the max speed of level 29 of original nes tetris. Beating Tetris is not reaching the killscreen, that is and was done 'easily' by many players, beating tetris is about getting the game to crash in original nes tetris hardware, which can be first achieved at level 154 by a single line completion at max speed from level 29.
@@sskar9390 so they call it a kill screen when it's not actually a kill screen? For all other games, the skill screen is when you get so far that the game crashes. It's called that because the game is killed at that point. It doesn't seem right to say the game is killed when it is still running fine, does it?
Jonas passed away about a week after I discovered the classic Tetris community. Since he passed, I always kinda low-key made it a goal of mine to become better at Tetris than Jonas since I lost the opportunity to ever play him in competition. 3 years later, I can comfortably say I'm around his skill level. (He'd clear me in DAS category tho)
Alex t is another legend himself, he has achieved many records, but Jonas inspired and leaded the Tetris community to where it's now, a different kind of legend, goat
