Dan, I live in Oregon. Greenies everywhere. Two years ago I had a Solar company come in to give me an assessment on the home. They said it would costs me only 35k on a 55k bill. The first year would be 0 cost. Then for the next 25 years I had to pay them $150 a month. They kept that 20k that came off the original price. Immediately which the solar company received from the government and solar trust. Any excess power my electric solar produced if my power bill went to 0 the electric company got to keep it. If the Solar didn't produce enough wattage that month I had to pay the Power company difference.... Didn't work for me on paper. I didn't trust those solar companies.

Solar panels are a nightmare!! Several friends had solar panels put in 12 yrs ago and they just had them removed due to all the water damage!! The roof, walls, ceiling and electrical damage was so substantial!! Solar panels are a curse!!

Before "solar", there was Sears selling batteries. If the battery failed within a certain period of time, you went down to Sears, stood in line with other people whose batteries had failed. Finally, Sears had to stop doing automotive repairs and selling batteries. You buy solar because you will never have to buy electricity ever again. You switch your IRA from an insured account to a "gold backed account" that is not insured - and you pray that the company is actually holding gold and that you can walk in and pick it up in the next hour. You buy a timeshare because the salesman says it can be rented out if you don't use the time. You buy the car from the start-up company that the Wall Street Journal says is headed to bk because you got a "warranty" on paper. You buy the magic pill that the advertiser says is not sold in drug stores. How about this one? I have dental insurance. I am supposed to have a free examination. I go in. X-rays are taken. The licensed dentist has not yet looked at the x-rays. He wants me to buy an $1140 magic pill course of treatment offered only by the dental group. The secretary comes and says it is going to cost me over $300 for the exam to be performed. I walk out, go home, and change dental groups. I look up the contents of this magic pill on the internet. None of the contents are prescription. If you want to be a "mark", go right ahead. The next investment opportunity for you is "AI". You don't know what the hell it is, but you want to get in on the ground floor. A whole host of salesmen will sell you opportunities (but not invest themselves). Oh, the other alternative is to buy a course from a great success story who came up with "an algo rhythm" . He has made his billions. He won't keep the secret to himself. He is a generous guy and he will sell you the secret for $1200 when you take his class.

In Australia now if you have solar panels on your roof they now have started to send you a bill if you send power to the power company’s as they say we have enough and we now are charging you for storage. My brother use to get .60cents a kw then they lowered it to .06cents a kw now he gets charged a storage fee ! Biggest ripoff ever

I have installed a battery bank, four panels, an inverter, and a charge controller for my detached garage. It runs the garage and I run an extension cord to the house to power things for fun. It works great, but was very expensive. It's cool, but not a money-saver.

It’s happening everywhere. Everything is here in Michigan. The Rite Aid are going out of business. My son goes up six blocks up the street to pick up his Friday medicine that he called his doctor called in three days ago and they said not system! Well guess what there’s one person working the main counter in the main part of the store and a pharmacist is the only person in the pharmacy. The lights are all low. The drive-through is closed And packages are piled everywhere in the pharmacy area in the parking lot is nearly empty. We were just up there a month ago and everything looked OK and fine. A few days ago we were greeted with this and I got the feeling that was closing. And so the pharmacist obviously stole the medication because the doctor said he absolutely did call it in like he’s been calling into that same exact pharmacy for over nine years! And this is the first ever having. Oh, they had it in stock, but they were keeping it for themselves or whatever! So I called over Rite Aid about a mile away from that Rite Aid and they said we’re going out of business but we don’t know exactly when they only give us two weeks notice! I said what they said down the street is a Walgreens everything will be sent over to the Walgreens. So called the doctor back the doctor gave Dr. Walgreen. He called and talk to the pharmacist at the Walgreen, my doctor did and it was transferred up over at the Walgreen. We went up there three hours later picked it up with no problem everything went fine. So the Walgreens? When are they setting their doors? Who is gonna take over all the Rite Aid spots? Is it going to be in Amazon pharmacy? Is it going to be a CVS? They can finally move into our county? Is it going to be a pharmacy for Walmart or is it gonna be nothing at all??! Everything is closing we have three stores in our mall left open. Macy’s JCPenney bookstore and then around the corner in the same mall is a planet fitness! That is it everything has went out of business, including their dollar store some of the dollar trees and even Walmart cut back a little bit What the heck is going on and what are we heading into? You’re talking about a recession so deep and so severe that 75% of America’s gonna be homeless😮

My best friend is having a complete solar system and battery installed on her house. She was told it’s free and won’t listen to me. 18 panels and battery storage- completely free! So sad.

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞(UK) I saw what was coming to our energy prices @5 years ago - I installed roof solar - even in the UK - I get free energy for 6 months of the year and greatly reduced bills in the winter - It cost me £6000 - I did find the right guys, the right type of panel and battery - If you do your research - IT IS FANTASTIC - At first everyone said - you never get your money back on that -- three years ago our electricity bills were being increased 30% twice a year!! Of course by then everyone was rushing to get solar - but the price had more than doubled due to demand - I also run an off grid set up - I LOVE SOLAR - but it's only for the individual NOT A COUNTRY! - THATS COMPLETE NONSENSE !

Marthas vineyard bought electric busses. Now they burn more oil to make more electricity to charge the busses.On the mainland the infrastructure is not adequate to charge the all the busses. Crazy

You are right on about the roof leaks problem that becomes your liability. I looked into Solar and it would not pay for itself until I was 85 on! No doing.

Very accurate video and good advice on Solar!. We put solar on our California home, and we thought when we went to sell it, the buyer could assume the solar payments, didn't happen! Buyers don't want to get involved in assuming the load and there are qualification standards involved. So basically, solar was a big net loss as it did not add enough value to cover its cost when selling the house. I would never do solar again!

Highest electric billi ever have is in summer when I keep my central ac on from May to September and my house members wear sweaters because of it. $320 is the highest. If I make believe it’s $320 all year ( not even close) that would be $107,200 over THIRTY years.

Before I installed solar in my vineyard, my connected load fee was $35 a month. A few years ago I installed a 14kw system. My connected load fee jumped to $135 a month and this last bill ,$250 a month. The other issue is over the past 6 years my solar system only produces 80% of the stated power output.

Here’s some facts Dan. In the UK Octopus Energy have a deal. Elec is available at 7.5p / kWh overnight tariff. (23:30-05:30) Export at 15p / kWh tariff. Therefore: Charge Home battery and EV overnight at 7.5p. AND export any Solar excess to the grid at 15p. I know this because I do this. Cost to run my EV (9000 miles pa) AND heat and power our home. Was £4000 Now £550.

Budgeting isn't hard. Simply assume that everything you purchased last year will be up 30% this year. Some things will be up more, and maybe a few things will be up less. Sticking to the budget will be virtually impossible.

I agree with not putting them on your roof. Do anything you can do to keep the solar panels off your roof. It's easier to adjust them and maintain them and replace them and clean them. Just keep them off the roof.

My brothers house with solar fell out of escrow twice because of poor solar installation problems

I constantly get calls from the solar installers wanting to use my roof for their equipment. Their offer is that I would save 10% on my electric bill. My bill is normally about $140/ month +/- . so i would have that crap on my roof to save less than the price of a hamburger per month. What they dont tell you is that they sell back MOST of my electricity to the power company. And I would have to rewire my older home to meet the new code. No thanks!!

Dan. I agree with much of what you say in your videos, but not this one when it comes to solar. 🧐🤷‍♂️😕 Sunpower installed my solar panels about 8 years ago and that's one of the best financial moves I have made. Also its a great selling point if I ever want to sell my home

I still like the "idea" of solar, it makes more sense than wind unless you live in a constant wind area. Solar should be directed to a do-it-yourself or contract installers, but it has to be reliable and the solar panels mounted in the yard. This should be approached as partial power and gradually increase, a lot of thinking ahead with plans that adjust as technology improves.

If you buy your own equipment and you get a 30% tax credit and you install the equipment yourself, you will come out ahead. But do not sell the power back to the power company. Only use it for yourself. As an example, just get enough solar to run your air conditioner and your refrigerator.

My inverter broke during the ships stuck off the Commifornia coastm. I was forced to wait 3.5 months to get a replacement and lost productivity. My bills were tripled. Then my roof leaked! Costed me $40 k to replace from poor installation. Never get solar!

I've heard years ago that there is around 13% failure rate on solar panels. Years ago, Sussex County NJ, advertised a contract for installing solar panel over such things like school parking lots. The contractor when belly up and left projects undone. I haven't heard anything new on this issue.

I'm in California and I UT my own solar in 2009. 6500 kw. I have no problems and would do it all again. I also used the 30% credit to lower my cost too. I'm getting free electricity now for 10 years.

We had solar panels from solar city installed on our home several years ago and leased them. Our payments were only about 125 per month and small increases each year after. Our electric bill was 20 dollars per month to our elec co even the hot summer months of Arizona. When we put the house on the market the first contract fell through because they did not want to assume the lease. 2 nd contract the buyers were happy to assume because the savings were huge. Solar city was sold out to Tesla I believe.

If it doesn't make sense then don't do it! Solar is a mirage! Sure, the solar panels themselves are dirt cheap, but where are you gonna put them? If you put them on your roof it will cost tens of thousands of dollars for "a professional installation" which may actually be done very unprofessionally! Then, you will have a major, major headache with things like your home insurance and maybe even the city building inspection department! Realistically if you want solar you would need a large open field! Very few people have that! I am from the Cleveland area but not in Cleveland proper, but I agree that they should never pay the hackers! If you are an organization that has computer systems, you need to require regular backups!

Paid 22,000 cash... 11000 up front $11,000 when the job was done...$8,000 inflation reduction act credit... Feedback into the meter how to get permits from the county electric company... Has to watch the installers like a hawk to make sure they did everything perfectly... still had issues with some of the installation at the panel... Are us made not Canadian not Chinese warranted for 25 years... manufacturer provides 25 year warranty... Yes who knows if they're all going to be in business... Started my process almost 2 years ago... My electric bill is somewhere between 0 and $8 a month... 16 panels
