The first Grid has the best feeling of speed and driving over all games that came after from any studio.

I don't think they can make a game like the first GRID again. It reminds me of Bad Company 2, where whatever magic was going on with THAT particular group of developers just led to something incredible....which future iterations of the team cannot recapture.

I wish they would just remaster the first Grid. Still in my opinion the best driving game ever.

RD GRID is probably the best one, I loved a lot GRID 2, Autosport has a super sloppy and unfair difficulty in touring and endourance, and GRID 2019 haven't tested it yet

You didn't mention the "more realistic" Air Resistance physics in GRID Autosport, from my observation.. it alters the way cars move when airborne-crashed, not just a glue downforce physics. materials wiggle is the next one they should have implemented in, I found GRID series are the only video games that can compete with BeamNG's completion of a real world racing simulation.

The first GRID, and likewise the first DIRT, are two of my favorite racing games of all time. And it's a shame (to me) that as each of the series evolved, they pushed more and more of their career simulation aspects to the side and basically just became arcade racers. No more going to your garage (or in the case of DIRT, your trailer), getting yourself organized, lining up sponsors or hiring team mates. Just pick a car, pick a track and race. They both feel like empty shells of what they used to be.

FI-NA-LLY. Someone gets it right. Congrats for the video. I know I'm 2 years late, but It has just popped into my YT's feed. The first GRID was just some sort of mythical creature, a weird unicorn that had the right amount of balance for it to be special. Heck, you could even enjoy it playing with a bloody keyboard! what racing game can say that? For me, the only thing that went right on the later releases of the franchise, was that they toned down the yellowish ambience... Why on earth did they think that was a good idea in the first GRID? Man, that was the only thing I hated. Anyway, as I've said, congrats for the amazing video, and, as a former GRID fan, I can say your take on the franchise is/was spot on. Nodding my head in agreement through most of this. I don't know how they just kept mis-stepping after getting things so right with Race Driver: Grid. I do enjoy Grid Autosport sometimes, but not nearly as much as I enjoy playing the first Grid. The physics don't feel right at all in Autosport- If I'm on the proscribed racing line, I'm taking corners a whole gear higher than I ought to be able to. If I'm not on the racing line, e.g. overtaking or just trying out a different line through the corner, everything goes wrong no matter my control inputs. The 2019 game... well. It's just not what I wanted it to be, and calling it simply Grid set it up for a direct comparison to a far superior game. I haven't tried Grid Legends yet, but I'm not expecting it to be very good.

Thank you. The "2019" Grid game is 5 dollars in Canada on the Steam store right now. Thanks to this awesome video, not only do I know that I should not even bother with it, but I know with more depth why I felt ripped off with Grid 2 and Grid Autosport. I share the same love as you for the original Racedriver Grid and cannot fathom how they never could follow up on it with a worthy game. Baffles me, really. To think the amount of money that was wasted... (By both Codemasters AND the customers...) I'm just gonna go plug in my G25 and launch Racedriver Grid, now.

I only played original Grid back in the days and watching a couple of comparison videos I still think its the best of all three Ok, now I know what 100Gb consist of: probably 70Gb of movies and 30Gb actual game.

All this did was encourage me to play the first Grid again.

i am one of those that saw this original video back in 2018 and i was trying to look for that

*start:* Grid 1 and Dirt 3 are the perfect middle ground between Hardcore Arcade and Casual Sim. Very approachable, but with JUST enough of reality thrown in to satisfy realism nerds and otherwise be sensibly challenging. ((Also, Hardcore Arcade and Casual Sim are terms I use to further break up the overly obtuse "simcade" moniker, as I find that to be a bit too broad.)) *mid vid:* Good lord, if Grid 2 was that bad, then I DEFINITELY played Grid 1 back in the day. Phew, I was confused for a while after thinking about this game after so long. Had to look up which was which to be sure. Glad you straightened that out for me. *early 2019:* Geez. At this point they should just re-release the first game exactly as it was, but with more tracks, more cars, more racing/even types, fix drifting difficulty, and maybe add more car customization and/or more in-depth tuning of/for a proper suspension model. *end of 2019 section:* So they finally got back towards the right track for physics, improved car sounds, and added back good interiors, but everything else is still fucked and presentation/menu settings are worse than ever? Got it. Do you have an update going over Legends??

Huge fan of the series. Played the original Grid over and over with gamepad on console. Now having a blast with Autosport in my rig with HE pedals, triple screen (with cockpit cam mod), and Simucube. It’s an arcade racegame, love it, next to real sims like RF2. Force feedback is actually very satisfying once set up correctly. Off couse not realistic, but consistent, love catching oversteer. Almost played through it, next up GRID 2019 (or Forza Horizon 5).

Grid 2019 feels amazing to drive, and I love it to death. It might have some quirks, but it feels so good to just jump in a race and drive. I love all of the Grid games. Grid 2 still looks amazing too but I had the dust on the camera lens effect and there’s no real way to turn it off.

I've been playing GRID Autosport on mobile because I wanted a mobile racing game fix while travelling overseas in my spare time. It's amazing to see the game completely ported over to mobile with touch screen but a controller would be more suitable. There are some things I like about GRID Autosport, one being some of the car engine sounds and other elements. But, nothing will ever beat the original game from 2008, which I'm still playing to this day on my home computer and thoroughly enjoying! It even works on my laptop! Great video (even though it's 3 years old), and thanks for spending the time to dive deep into all these games. It's sad the newer games have never bested the original. You have earned my sub good sir. Cheers! 🍻

What frustrates me in the original RD Grid, is the engine sounds. And 350Z is not the only one - Soarer sounds like it has a BEAMS inside of it instead of a JZ or a UZ.

very random and irrelevant but this is the most recent grid video ive seen so i figured id talk abt it// at some point for the og grid (pc) i had to fix a visual bug with flashing trees, which was easy enough to fix but for some reason that ive not found a fix for is since then an annoying animation big happens where the driver doesnt hold the handbrake if i press the button, he just keeps grabbing it for half a second then throwing his hand back on the steering wheel (repeat) until let go of it, even as the race is starting with the countdown. v-sync was the only way i could fix it but the input lag is just not fun to deal with.

never found a game with better wheel feel (G29 here) than Autosport, wish the newer editions simply kept all that code as is. All the other ones like forza, project cars etc don't come close imo.

I loved Racedriver Grid. I got used to Grid 2 and then loved it. Didn't like AutoSport (didn't even feel like giving it a second shot), wasn't aware of Grid 2019

I like Grid 2, just a bit. But yeah the fans thingy is stupid, I never finished the career mode for that reason, I just put on quick race, some music in the background and race.

I agree with most of what you said but for me Grid 2 is better than RD:Grid,yes after 2K hrs I am obviously biased but that one just clicked with me from the get-go.One thing I'd like to note is that for a 40 min vid you didn't go nearly in depth of actual problems instead of surface ones which to me seems like a missfire,nevertheless I do respect you went more in-depth than anything else I've seen on the franchise

"Rewind" feature in GRID is similar to "mulligan" feature in golf games? By using "mulligan" you can retry your last shot, supposed you make a grave mistake.

Grid 2019 has absolutely the worst handling model of all the grids. It feels like the cars are driving in a tub or margarine. Not only do the cars feel floaty but grip levels are non existant.

I STILL love and play Race Driver V8 supercars 2 ...(ToCA 2 outside AUS and NZ ) on PPSSPP......do most gamers from the 90,s like me turn off flashbacks and that stupid racing line mechanic ??

Grid 2019 needs more content (ex.cars, tracks). I hope we could get a new Grid game someday.

This a grear vídeo, i grave same impression, gread 2 not a grid game, grid auto Sport is try tô made a arcade game. But a original grid for me os best Sense off force feedback, use a Viper in First race, your car jump, stering wheel lose contacto and still free in Air, and bump in the road, have a hugeeeeeee impacto and force feedback.

this game has two problems .. first the physic .. yes its similar to race driver grid (its even better imao) but in an era where the public is used to Forza horizon and GT sport .. old grid physics doenst hold up .. too arcady .. too much sliding .. f1 games should have been the inspiration .. not tarmac dirt rally 2 the second is that the game is an mvp .. everything is the strict minimum .. the car list, the tracks list, the carier, the multiplayer the only good thing is that the game feel quite good on a wheel but its the case for all 8 gen Codemaster's games now the only thing i wait from CM is the next slightly mad studio's game maybe a Pcars 3 that can take on FH8 and GT7
