Final Fantasy 16 was one hell of a game, but my favorite moment was actually hidden underneath the game's many side quests. "Playthings", also known in this video as Chloe's tale, was a quest that hit me like a sack of bricks. It was rough. It was raw. And it was so, SO good.
After finishing the game, the quest lingered on my mind, and I knew then that I had to make a video on the subject. It somehow manages to connect to the central conflict of the video game, the themes behind the game and even connect to real life, all in one small-sized side quest.
It's my hope that this video shows a bit why I loved it so much, and maybe convinces you, too, that this is a true gem within this incredible game. If you do decide to watch, I hope you get something out of the video.
I also apologize if I mispronounced anything, I'm not a native speaker :')

I thought about the brand removal scar cuz it bothered me at first also. If you think about it, the branded know that trying to remove their brand will most likely kill them because of the poison infused into the ink. So it's not only been ingrained into the heads of the branded, but also the non-branded. When you have that level of bias, you would never think that anyone would be crazy enough to remove the brand since it's basically a faster death sentence. With that level of bias comes a lower level of perception regarding the matter. Clive and the previously branded curse breakers are probably the only people in the world with those scars (a dozen or so people), so nobody wil think anything of it unless they start to see those scars over and over again. The bias of non-branded is to look for a tattoo/brand so if they don't see one with the ink they'll just gloss over it.

Oh wow, I can not BELIEVE that thought didn't cross my mind! You're very, very right! Folks just don't even entertain the possibility that a branded may take control of their future, so they never even stop to analyze a random scar if it's not the very ink drawing these prejudiced people are used to. Damn, thank you so much for clarifying that point for me. I really think you nailed it with your explanation!

@@prezmer Ya. Of course. Always happy to discuss FFXVI. The lore and worldbuilding in that game is great. I would have been happy with another 50 hours for the game to deepen the world building. I know a lot of people are interested in Valisthea. It would be great if we could get spinoffs like Ivalice gets.

@@thatguy-dh1qh Fingers crossed for DLC or updates! They said they weren't interested prior to release, but then the game sold really, really well so who knows!

While this was an interesting quest, and a great video. The information about bearers being enslaved because of their inherent use of magic is respectfully false. In the side quest from Vivian called "An inconvenient Truth" she sends you to find a book titled "From A Distance". The book is readable on pick up, but not in inventory, the contents of the book tell of a time when "bearers" were actually the authority, until the people were tired of the consolidated power structure, after the war the bearers lost and were enslaved, not because they can simply just use magic. Google the book "From a Distance", I'm not a 16 lore expert by any means, but it's much more complicated than what is presented. Thank you for the video. *Like*

Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful correction! This is why making videos like these is awesome: I always end up learning something. Completely missed that bit of lore from the quest somehow. And more to the point, I think our little exchange here mirrors yet another of the in-game dilemmas. While you're 100% right, even with this knowledge I can't help but feel people in there just have no idea about this - at least some of them. I'd have to replay the sidequest to remember the context but the fact bearers were once the rulers might be the reason why the quest is titled "An inconvenient truth" (because it goes against current narrative that they are inferior), and also indicates that, nowadays, few even know of this history (much like my dumbass). I think even Cid at one point says that bearers should be able to bite back or whatever. AND, AND! This, funnily enough, ALSO mirrors our own real life. How many times have people in our history repeated mistakes of the past because they just didn't bother to learn from them? Or didn't even know they happened? Clive and co obviously realize this as they always went to Vivian before a mission, but somehow I think they're the exception... Man I can not get over the fact that I reenacted an average Valisthean citizen by being ignorant to the far back bearer story. Thank you so much for this comment!!!!! (and I haven't had the time to google the stuff or replay the quest yet because currently mid work shift but I just really needed to get my current thoughts down - if they change after I look into what you mentioned I'll be back with more)
