@@HiddenXperia We gotta get this pitched out to members of the community, and maybe a director can notice. Like how the FNAF movie is finally being made after years of talking about it, this can be done
Marty!! Oh my god yes that would be so cool, the only way it should be done! The music from Halo 1-3 & Reach still gives me goosebumps… Halo is definitely my favorite fictional universe and has my favorite lore, have read all the books and everything. Ever since I was a kid when halo 2 came out I’ve always wanted to see a halo movie done right. And like 13 years ago when that 6ish minute live action video of ODSTs fighting brutes came out, that blew my mind. I really think that’s the single best live action portrayal of Halo. I’ve watched it hundreds of times just asking WHY was the Peter Jackson movie canned? I think I speak for most halo fans that seeing this movie come to fruition with the proper execution would be mind shatteringly awesome. Maybe the best thing to happen ever.
A Halo movie sounds awesome! And it's actually adhering to the lore, unlike the TV series. And the Flood coming in sounds absolutely terrifying and amazing! I want to see this so much! Shame it'll never happen, it really hurts that it won't come to light ever.
It's not 100% accurate, but most of the creative liberties actually make sense, are well written and advance the story in an efficient way unlike whatever that abomination was that we got last year
@@HiddenXperia I could easily out do that abomination by doing my own TV show starting with Halo wars (2531) and ending with Halo Infinite (2560) spanning 10 seasons much like Stargate SG1 did.
@@Xeno-The-Wanderer The Flood could easily have been made with a blend of practical effects and CGI. No way would a _Halo_ movie nowadays be too expensive.
@@thecynicaloptimist1884 was making a guess, but really the biggest barrier is convincing execs and other parties to fund the project itself. Fans may say it’s brilliant but you need to convince these people that they’ll get their money back and then some in terms of investing and maybe there’s some internal stuff or whatever that’s not money related.
Its funny too bc that refreshing vibe is over 15 years old but still feels better than the halo tv show crap we get now. Its a crime we never got this movie; the first 5 minutes that got released tops anything 343 tried to do 😩
@@ThommyofThenn Probably a lack of funding at the time. Not gonna lie, I would pay top dollar to see this movie, I dont even care how long the movie IS.
Halo CE’s plasma effects accurately recreated in the movie script makes me smile. Bungie seriously made the plasma have that glowing, burning effect with sparks flying. Especially when overcharging a plasma pistol where the impact of the bolt is still sparking and burning like a live flame of energy.
Sounds like the story gamers wanted. Garland took the source and added more detail and emotion to his version of the story, pulling inspiration from real-world events and other media. I would like to see this movie.
crazy idea right? i think if this game wqas made into this movie it would have been this generations "starship troopers" but of course they cant just make a good movie anymore.
I like the opening scene. It makes the Spartan III's look proficient, but not invulnerable. They're not Mary Sues, just very good soldiers thrown into extreme situations.
Infected Keyes saying "I am a monument to all your sins" gives me chills. It's different but it still makes sense in a halo universe. This could've happened and leads to the same conclusion. The issue with the show to me wasn't that they did their own thing, its that the characters aren't themselves in any way, they are totally different and that leads to a distinctly non-halo experience.
To me those points are non-exclusive, whenever you hear "doing your own thing" in Hollywood it means you are straight up ignoring the source material and just making minimal graphical nods. In other words, to say the characters were "changed" is not exactly correct, they were never written in the first place, just "other" characters with the names tacked on. "Halo": Live action is a bastard child of Hollywood's truly worst methods of adaptation, not believing in the IP enough to view a true rehash(actual adaptation) as viable, believing untested writers can do better, and ultimately trying to stretch a story beyond its scope of interest. Halo has plenty of interesting stories beyond Chief's, trying to make his downtime more interesting than it needed to to appease self inserts are not interesting, the books and games covered all his most interesting adventures, and that is fine, don't go making him Ash Ketchum and forever 10, follow his example as a character and make another character he never meets interesting, just look at the elites, nearly all of them evolve in rank like John Wick, and the Banished and Separatist factions are rife with conflicts to explore, and all they offered was bastardized versions of favorites and Quan(was it Ha? I forgot)and what's her name... Neither was interesting.
@@michaellane5381 it's Hollywood writers being so far up their own asses that they cannot comprehend or accept that somebody who works on video games can wrote better than them
@@michaellane5381stop giving the pedos bad excuses and, anyone with half a brain would know that if they stayed true to source it would be a huuge success.
@@crankyeskimo3362 I'm not giving "excuses", there are reasons not to do 1 to 1 Adaptation, namely because we already saw it if we are fans, which makes the odds we pay out the big bucks to see it early low, which lowers profit, it would have done better than the trash made, but that's such a low standard it's meaningless.
One of the most terrifyingly creepy scenes ever in a movie is when the protagonist walks into a church and sees all the dead bodies. He proceeds to yell "Hello", and those two zombies just stand straight up so fast and just stares at him.
Knowing that there was a completed script and now actually hearing the details of the script, makes it much more apparent how much of a crime the cancellation of this film really was.
This is actually pretty amazing for a first draft, it gets a lot of notes right. I also like that this script has a much larger presence of Silva and his ODST's, The Flood's section sounds especially great as well. The bit with Cortana? That gives me Logic plague ideas. The Gravemind is also introduced earlier, which is not a bad idea. I love that this is actually a good authentic, with some deviations, Halo story that seems to show it's written by someone who gets Halo. With the right director, no meddling from a producer, this could be a good movie. I noticed that Johnson is completely excluded though. That's just a nitpick I got.
It never made sense to me in the game that Cortana sent Chief to the Flood containment area without explaining why, just saying it was necessary to avoid some great danger. In the script, she's confused, which explains why she acted so hastily without properly preparing Chief to the task.
Johnson could work being introduced in Number 2. His survival of Alpha Halo is a continuity error lol. So I see why they didnt include him. Halo 1's ending with just Chief and Cortana is lonely and bittersweet. If Johnson was with them I'm not sure it would be the same at all.
@@cole8834 not a continuity error, the books explain what happened, if a sequel script were made it may adapt operation first strike where it’s shown what happens between the 2 games with chief and surviving marines on their own pelican the ascendant justice and go to reach to check for survivors as well as take down a major covenant fuel depot preparing for the invasion of earth or what the covenant believe to be the ark (terminals would add a slight retcon claiming it was a pathway to the ark)
@@Ron-F You could also write around it by having Cortana trapped in a "digital prison", perhaps due to some kind of Forerunner defences to stop the system being hacked from the inside, so it's trying to isolate Cortana once she accesses the Forerunner terminals. So she doesn't have time to explain, she just tells Chief to stop the Captain before she's shut down.
Pretty messed up that a script like the tv series will get green lit, but a script that the fans are actually pumped for is in production hell. What a world folks. In any case keep it up my dude
After the god awful and disappointing tv series, the Halo community might as well do it ourselves. I’ve seen so many fan-made videos that are absolutely incredible from such talented fans. I would love to see this script made into a movie!
The music Marty O'Donnell put together for the Halo games belongs on the big screens. It would magnify the scenes of the movies 10x fold. I've been wishing for them to make this happen since I was 8....
@@EggEnjoyer No, I know how it's going to be. Eliminating 90% of art related jobs is a depressing dystopian nightmare. I don't want a single person to be able to do most of a project on their own. It's unfortunate that that's what we're getting.
I found most of the modifications improved the story, especially regarding Cpt. Keyes' fate. He is killed offscreen in the game, whereas, in this script, his last moments are much more interesting.
It sucks that this never got made especially seeing how some of their designs were pretty faithful to the games, plus designs more based on the old concept art like the Shiek Wang style elites and the Eddie Smith style Mark V. It's a shame that it never made it to the big screen.
I thought adapting the whole game for a 2 hour 10 minute runtime would be impossible, but Garland passed the task with flying colors. His writing and understanding of the source material is immaculate.
Someday, I really hope we do end up getting a Halo movie; it seems like it'd be a huge success and, with minimal changes to the plot, could seamlessly transfer to the big screen... possibly more than once.🤞
@@aztumtheknightofwumbo7060 Did it come out in theatres? I don't remember it actually seeing a theatrical release, which is what people refer to when they imagine "a movie coming out"
Man! What could've been! This was simply incredible to watch. I appreciate all the work you put in, editing this video, trying to line up game footage to the events of the script, Luc. You never skimp on quality. Cheers!
That honestly sounds amazing! It's a genuine tragedy this didn't come out. A team of Alex Garland and possibly PETER JACKSON making Halo movies would go so damn hard. Amazing video!
@@jomama7933 Fr, I especially thought the scene with Chief taking off his helmet and then the scene cutting away was a funny, unintentional middle finger to the show.
@@jomama7933 Its what happens when we let LGTBQ propaganda take over society. Chiefs buttcheeks, strongwoman spartans, forbidden love stories. Spastics will try to call me a bigot for pointing it out, but the proofs in the pudding. Not just Halo. We forfeited good story telling for modern political appeasement. Thats the reality of it.
This could totally be picked up for a Combat Evolved Remake in the same vein as the Dead Space Remake. One that doesn't just rebuild it in a new engine, but adds more weight and depth to the story.
This NEEDS to happen! Its a money pit just waiting for any writer and producer 🤣 love your videos bro I'm a big fan of Halo and you channel 🙂 much love and best wishes bro 😀
I'm listening to this and watching the remaining time go down sadly.... This is bad ass I don't want it to end! Reminds me how great the original novels The Fall of Reach, The Flood and First Strike are and how much I wish we had full novels covering the events in Halo 2 and 3. Thank you so much for sharing this! This gave me a taste of my old love of Halo and how good it really is/was.
As much as I hate the halo tv show one thing I did like about it was the gore and gritty feeling in the combat. This scrip sounds really good but one thing I can’t budge on is the removal of the swamp, the swamp where the flood is introduced is one of my favourite environments in gaming because it’s subtly unnerving even for a first time player who doesn’t know what’s about to happen and I can only dream how it would look in a movie where the director just gets it.
Love the brutality. A Halo film would definitely need to be on par with Aliens, Predator, and the Thing in terms of gore and not shy away from body horror. Torturing the Elite for information before executing it is also a great detail that you'd expect at this point. There's zero reason to show any mercy to them.
Back in the 2000s the r rating was avoided by many studios in favor of PG13. This movie would’ve been a big budget r rated film which was more likely the reason studios didn’t want to make it.
This script leaked a long time ago. It's an adaptation *of* an adaptation. Things that were lost in translation between CE and The Flood were lost even more between The Flood and the movie. Then for a while, it disappeared. I went looking for my copy, and it was gone. I went looking for where it had been leaked online in the first place, and it was gone. I panicked. I thought *I* had lost the last copy! Glad it's back, but I recommend reading it for yourself, cause there's a lot of very interesting and wonky portrayals
What portrayals are wonky?? Its an adaptation of a video game that keeps all major details the exact same, while adding more detail that wasnt present in the games. Do you mean it conflicts with the arbitrary information overexplained in the books?
@@SlyElliot Most notably Chief and Cortana's relationship being rocky for no reason. I'd say it's lacking backstory to get past the awkward phase of them meeting, but then so was CE since The Fall of Reach came out afterwards, and they didn't feel the need for him to ask how to turn her off
@@icarusgaming6269 Well in a movie that only lasts like 1 hour and 45 minutes you need to do 2 things to their relationship from the game/book (1.) You have to condense their banter and relationship from a 8-10 hour active gaming experience down to a much shorter time frame. (2.) you need conflict between characters to make it interesting so its way more interesting for them to start out rocky and then have the relationship and characters develop throughout the movie, than to just have the relationship be static and good for no reason the entire time.
@@SlyElliot This is what I think has been overemphasized lately. You don't need conflict between *every* character. Some of my favorite onscreen relationships are ones that aren't played for drama, and just treated as a constant that reacts to everything else changing around them. Chief being a static protagonist (at least until Halo 4) also makes this a harmonious decision. Cortana changes when she learns what the installation really is, and also when she's presented with a scenario she can't analyze her way out of, but the way Chief applies the same militaristic mentality to these twists the whole way through is a core element. I think the way The Flood used new characters to add conflict while keeping core elements the same was a cleaner way to adapt this story
@@icarusgaming6269 I'm with you on the Cortana Chief relationship. Having it start comfortable (enough) and get rocky because of what she learns fits the script better.
This is the best thing I've ever heard about Halo. Such a damn shame this movie wasn't made. This is the best gruesome and more... "brutal" retelling of CE's events that I've ever heard, aside from The Flood book. As a game developer and modder myself, I'm almost tempted to remake this entire re-telling of the story in game form as a Halo mod... but... I really don't have time these days with work and such.
this was incredible, they love and respect the existing lore and plot and only add to it. Its such a shame that the Halo show didn't even come close to this.
I came across this years ago through limewire if I remember correctly, instantly downloaded it. It's still sitting in my dropbox, never to be deleted. The only issue I had was that Chief removed his helmet while recovering from a fight. Though, idk if I still feel that way or not. Edit: just checked the upload time stamp - 1/7/2014
I need to see a copy of this script so I can read it myself, because this sounds like one hell of a movie. How it utilizes the Flood's use of psychological torture (which I think is actually their most terrifying aspect) and does it incredibly well. I also like how alot of nesh details like Jenkin's Magnum, and the ODSTs' resentment of Spartans (lore/details that aren't present in the games). It's super disappointing that this never got made, and what's even more disappointing is knowing this exists is we got the awful TV show instead. This would have been a blast to see on the big screen.
What I really want is another halo anime, but not like halo legends where its just shorts a full on a series or something like that. I would choose "I Know you" to be the opening song.
Honestly, they could make an animated adaptation with good voice actors. Would be a lot easier to do the action scenes than a shit ton of practical and CG work with the Covenant. The only issue is that you might lose a bit of the brutality. But the motion comics of Halo Evolutions had a decent amount of brutality. I think it would be more feasible than a live-action feature film, though I'd still like to see it.
This script absolutely glasses the TV show to smithereens. It ADDS to the lore and enhances moments, it doesn't throw it away and slap a halo sticker onto chief's bare cheeks. We already know how it would like and feel with those old Halo 3 and Reach commercials, it's easy gold waiting to happen.
God this makes me sad. Halo CE has been my favorite halo game since I was a kid in the 2000’s. If this movie came to fruition I would genuinely cry in the theater. This video already was giving me some tears because of how amazing this would have been if I was able to see it when I was a kid or even my early teens whatever decade it would have come out
The only thing that sucks is that we never hear anything about the man, the myth, the legend; Sgt.Jonhson. I would have loved for them to at least mention him and how he would be Chief right hand man/partner at points in the script/movie.
seeing as how halo was inspired by the movie aliens, it wouldve been easier for people to spot the sergeant reference in the movies rather than the games. maybe they were worried people would say it is a direct copy.
We're in the bad ending alternate universe for sure as we never got this Back when halo was rated M and we were all still hoping for a movie. That was another time For how good this is, it's now my head canon
I feel like Nyland's Fall of Reach would have been the perfect adaptation for a show or movie. Show Chief's origins, the insurrection, and the introduction to the Covenant. Everything leading up Reach's fall. Then season 2 or sequel movie can focus on Alpha Halo until it's destruction. Season 3 would combine both H2 and 3 to wrap up the War. Maybe TWD it and have a mid season cut to end the H2 arc.
From a 'what makes the most money without angering fans' perspective (IE give me those big long term profits.) Doing Fall of Reach as the opening film, this Halo script (or close analogue) for the sequel, then two films for Halo 2 and Halo 3 seems like the go to choice. There is too much material to combine Halo 2 and 3 into a single film without having to cut to much out of it. Plus, if you go at a sane production/release schedule, doing 2 films means more profit from merch and secondary sources. Open it up with 'We are doing a Halo Quartet.' as the public facing marketing strategy, deliberately bringing up this unproduced script and citing 'minimal adjustments' for it. If you don't completely botch Fall of Reach, bankrolling the rest will be comedically easy. Sometimes for max profit, you have to just accept that the product is an R rated one.
They should make the Flood more like Necromorphs or 1982 "The Thing" . The Flood are more intelligent but imagine if they actually LOOKED more scary too. The Flood are more Creepy than horror or scary.
@@nutyyyy I agree! They need an upgrade to feel more menacing. I know any weapon can dispose of them. But what if one couldn't be hurt by them? You have to burn it! But plasma is kind of like fire so hmm
343 should turn this into an audio drama just like what fox did with William Gibson second script HX you should check out avp galaxy they have all the alien predator and avp scripts I would recommend Gibson draft 1st and 2nd drafts ,Alien:engineers and the wooden planet script
It took only a few drafts for this faithfully canceled adaptation, while it took only 200 drafts (if I’m correct) for mediocre script for the ‘show’ Shame we never got this ,maybe the refurbished 343 could have this animated but probably not.
Fun fact: This is actually the first draft! I spoke to someone who worked closely with the project (won't say who yet) and they told me it was the first draft and would've only gotten better form thereon out, and it's someone I absolutely trust so it would've ended up even better than this in the end
@@HiddenXperia Would that someone give permission to upload a copy? I have a 3d printer for making costumes collecting dust and a film director friend. It would take forever but we'd love to do a fan film of this
Now THIS is the opportunity for the Halo show to make amends. Make the entire season 1 a wild fever dream of Jimmy Rings and take this script and use it
This is incredible, I can't believe we almost got this. The fact that they've been sitting on this script and didn't make it happen is hugely disappointing. This is infinitely better than the genetic writing we got in the TV show.
Best reading, content and info drop I’ve seen on your channel in minute. Thank you for the entertainment. Would give my left arm to see this done in an LoL-Netflix-Arcane format. Jen Taylor / Steve Downes voice acting etc…
Honestly, this should just be made. No two ways about it. Even if not live action, clone wars style animation would be able to really do the aliens justice and let them fit in with the humans around them
Now this is what the fucking show should have been. I think this is a really great adaptation, perhaps they could make it a show though, which would allow for the inclusion of more of the missing “levels”. This would allow Guilty Spark some more screen time, which could then result in more forerunner explanatory dialogue. One of my favorite parts of the bungie games was the allusion that humanity were of forerunner descent, so it’d be awesome to include that as well, as it added perfectly to the mystery of halo as well as the irony of the human covenant war. Perhaps they could also include Johnson, have him be another survivor to the flood encounter in addition to Jenkins, which I think would help develop a more interesting character dynamic between him and Miranda in a potential sequel, as Johnson may feel guilty in a sense, for not saving the captain. That could even mirror chief a bit as it seems this adaptation is making it so that chief feels that he bares the burden of saving everyone. I also really like the inclusion of the semi antagonistic odst, as well Jenkins and foehammer as actual characters. Halo has so much potential for excellent storytelling, definitely one of my all time favorites, a shame the show and newer games have turned out poorly.
THEY HAD THIS SCRIPT AND "HALO THE FLOOD" FOR CREATIVE REFERENCE FOR THE HALO TV SHOW AND THEY STILL SAID "NAH That's too hard, we don't have good sorce material, so we're just gonna make garbage." WTF. Meanwhile The Last Of Us TV show is just eating Halos lunch!
My favorite part was whand captain keys turns out of the corner and walks towards him saying I have a monument of all your sins That gave me a huge nostalgia trip for Halo 2 and when he said that I imagine the Halo 2 grave mind saying it
I was studying in school when i heard about a script in the making for a live action Halo movie...i think there was even a fan made video with some live clips from the old halo games..like Believe campaign...it still feels like distant memory...i also heard Gullermo del Toro, Spielberg and Peter Jackson had a Halo script of their own
