That's a bad comparison. Like the budget difference. We got a full episode of the fall of reach. Technically we got 4 but I'm not counting the first 3. Like this episode was the 2nd best so far.
@@blackheart4360 Microsoft has all the money in the world and they shouldn't need to think of budget when making this show. shows with smaller budgets have better CGI than this and have more of it. they've had what? a decade to make this show? little less?
Halo Reach: A month-long genocidal campaign with the Covenant fighting with the UNSC across the planet's surface, Noble Team planting a slipspace bomb on a supercarrier, and a system-wide campaign with an enormous space battle with the largest Covenant fleet seen at that point. Ending with the Covenant glassing the entire planet's surface. Halo TV Show: A street corner getting blown up, one scorpion on a bridge and a couple of hallway shootouts in "Reach City".
Speaking of “grinding gears”, Gears of War is another franchise that’s been ruined by Microsoft pointing the most incompetent out of touch regards to head an ip they clearly do not understand.
@@shreksnow1918 EXACTLY. If these shows are meant to just be cash grabs. Do they not realize they would make MORE money if they made a quality TV show that OG fans of the games would love???
It’s because they have no clue about telling good stories. They see it as a quick cash grab. Unfortunately thick and clueless people like these types of series. The fans always get pushed aside look at the Witcher the main character leaves cos they ain’t going with the lore. Rings of power failed with more or less the same reason. the only one nerdy thing people are hoping works is the Warhammer series
Nah man, they need to pull the plug on this. The writers doubled down on their OCs and terrible plots, they obviously never wanted to make anything Halo related but were forced to in order to tell their own story.
the flood is gonna take awhile, if you base it on the canon timeline, they’re still way before the events of halo CE. but what can i say, it’s a mess now you’ll prolly be right 😂
Im calling it now. Kai is going to train the spartan 3s, Master Cheeks is gonna start a rebellion against ONI, they send Kai with the 3s to fight Master Cheeks, only for Kai to be like "nah, thats my boy Master Cheeks" and joins him with all the 3s and they smash ONI. Also, Makee finds Halo, opens the containment facility and everyone but her and Arby dies only for Kwan to show up out of no where and be like "I'm the protector" and does some magic bullshit and they all escape. Then Cortana sends a message to Master Cheeks and says "Yo, we found Halo. Come through. Also, bring an army, theres so fucky shit going on here". Season 2 ends with Master Cheeks saying one thing while embracing Kai in his arms over the corpses of Parangosky and Ackerson; "Bet." Screen fades to black.
It’s exactly where you’d expect it to go, which means they’ll surely do something dumber and more nonsensical. Every time they set something up and you think, “oh nice, now they can actually do something halo-y,” they manage to tank it.
Unrelated but hey atleast youtube allowed you to post that. If I say any of the spicy words you did RU-vid will say "comment posted" but will actually delete it.
In the book that came even before the game he was 90% of the time in orbit or training and he was never told they were getting their ass kicked in space no matter what he did the planet was deemed to fall because he is just a man he can't go fight an entire fleet on his own
Watching you go from the optimism displayed yesterday in the Epitaph video to utter confusion and frustration with the TV show, in less than 24 hours, is a trip
@@HiddenXperia I absolutely DIED at the Oblivion reference. Skooma side-quest while Mehrunes Dagon is decimating The White-Gold Tower. Keep being amazing, man.
My dad knows I’ve always loved halo, he’s watched the few live action things over the past with me and enjoyed it, he started this series without me and even he, who has never played the games, was like “wtf is this?”
My dad was never interested in the games but I got him to watch the show with me. He was confused by some choices in the first season too, but really liked how the second season started. Now we’re both just disappointed again.
@@Notlordstark it cracked me up because he was excited we had something to watch together and before I had to break it to him I wasn’t interested he found out it made no sense and was all over the place. So neither of us had to struggle bus through it haha.
My dad told me he started watching it and I was like "dad pls dont watch that show." He watched it and said he kind of liked it... Understandable from someone's POV without playing the games or reading the books though. My dad just played Halo 1 with me in 2005, and he hasn't played any others.
Reach was the crown jewel of the UNSC and they fought hard to the very last man to defend it. When Reach fell it sent a message to everyone saying humanity’s days were numbered. They seemed to completely forget that in this show. Man kind was on the back foot in the human-covenant war the whole time.
Exactly. In the Fall of Reach book, everyone across the human controlled space made such a monumental deal of Keys single handedly defeating a Covenant fleet of four ships, which he sadly admits that he won because of a perfect combination of the Covenant’s arrogance, stupidity, complete ignorance of their own weapon systems, and blind luck on his part. He knows that he could have fought the same battle 99 more times, and been slaughtered 99 times.
@alliebinford9157 Doesn't mean it isn't absolute garbage. They have no idea what the story of the Human covenant war is like. There no tension. They made humans the bad guy, It takes away from the sacrifice of reach.
Reading Nylund's Fall of Reach while watching this series is just heartbreaking. They had every opportunity to salvage the show on Episode 3 but they decided to double down on their irrational timeline....
@@revolverocelot1380 I don’t know man personally I haven’t seen the show all the way through. I just started it cause I heard it was bad and wanted to see how bad and honestly the first episode doesn’t make sense to me like the fact that that is how ONI and the UNC operate doesn’t really make sense to me, I’m not saying master chief going AWOL makes sense either just a little bit more after he saw his childhood memories or whatever but if I’m being honest, he should’ve never been put in that situation to begin with. Why kill the girl on the ship? why not just execute her when she gets to base in fact, why are the Spartans even helping a rebel camp anyway that’s literally how this story starts. It’s not like they were fighting and then the covenant showed up. They showed up to literally help them and try and find survivors like come on bro you guys were literally made to kill humans before even knew aliens were a thing
That’s because we needed to save room so we could get an entire emotional episode about Spartan’s emotions 🙄 Seriously it’s so dumb! Emotional pellets and dumb emotional stuff should have been saved for a season 10. It’s just dumb this early on. Who cares if he’s gonna be a crybaby when he hasn’t even been a badass once. Also tired of makee saving him. Chief has already lost 2x to covenant. And made terrible battlefield decisions, etc. just seems like an incompetent private in boot camp… lame
@@ginjaedgy49 waht is there to cry about? Star Trek is doing quite well these days. Picard was a bit of a mixed bag but. Strange New Worlds is good. Lower Decks is fun and even Prodigy was ok as what it was supposed to be. STD i didn't like but i know many that do.
@@ADMNtek Fans of classic Trek aren't eating that well. Strange New Worlds is good, but there are some episodes that are just abysmal, to a point that defies belief. Picard allegedly got good at the end, but Seasons 1-2 were trash fires. STD's acronym is a good reflection of the show. Lower Decks is one of the worst abominations to be churned out by modern-Trek in ages. Just the worst exemplification of everything wrong with modern lenses shining light on popular franchises.
Personally, I feel like the show runners and writers just wanted to write their own story, and either wanted to use Halo for what amounts to clickbait or got handed Halo and just disregarded it entierly. It seems to happen a lot with adaptations like this... the people in charge want to do something that has their handprints all over it, but can't get the go ahead on a new IP because the execs are crying over their piles of money at the idea of a non-starter idea, so they recycle whatever they happen to have laying around.
Same thing as 343 did in the games. They all want to be unique but then why use an already existing and well established franchise? I you want to be unique make your own franchise from scratch
I mean it’s exactly that, they knew it was popular, and if they just created their own generic terrible scifi it would’ve got so little traction. It is literally a shit dump to use halo to boost themselves and nothing more, and yet what they don’t understand they created such a piece of shit, this will likely have a negative effect. But you can’t reason with this kind of stupid
Yeah I'm guessing the troops morale took a severe nose dive when they learnt the Master chief was no longer fighting beside them and he wasn't even on the same planet as them anymore.
The silver timeline is so jaded that I've become numb and just watch it to see what happens next cause obviously these showrunners and writers are high asf.
I think we need to give up hope at this point. When ever we get something good they always twist it, making it bitter sweet. That's going to continue to happen. The writers can't be trusted the same way 343 can't.
This is like king Arthur being sent away to polish armour while the sword was pulled out of the stone by a nameless knight that is never mentioned again.
It is wild to me that 343 had an executive hand in this and let it happen. As far as I’m concerned, there is zero respect for the foundation here. There should never have been a conversation about a separate timeline. I could go on and on, but as a classic lover of all things Halo, I will die on my hill of disgust for what Paramount’s series has done. It is utterly heartbreaking.
My favorite part of the Halo series: they came out of the gate and said “yeah it’s not canon, it’s an alternate universe” That was super considerate of them, because before it even aired, I was able to throw it out into my mental landfill with all the other bad adaptations that just were just wanting to swindle money out of its fanbase. That really enabled me to laugh at it from day one, rather than go through the stages of grief before being able to ridicule it
This show presents a conundrum to me. The writers seem to want to write new things that aren’t related to Halo lore. Cool. Go do that. Write new things, we need less reboots and more new things. Have them go do that. But hire writers that want to adapt the literally pre-written lore for things like this. A tweak or two is fine (see The Last of Us). This would be a win-win. We get faithfully adapted franchises with built-in fan bases being adapted, but also new things. But nope, we get whatever this “Halo” show is.
IF they went out and tried to create something of their own, some shitty B rated sci fi nobody would give them the time of day. The only reason people even acknowledge this show existing is because it has "Halo" as the title. Nothing more.
Also are we not gonna mention that the arbiter became the arbiter only AFTER he failed to defend the first ring? Is this clown suppose to be the previous arbiter, 'cause he's not my thel
@@CrispedRanger96 Yea this show would rather spend 5 episodes dealing with Spartan emotional problems than do any actual world or story building. Non halo fans have zero clue anything about the covenant , why is it just elites , until one moment jackals appear. And one random lone brute ? I’ve played the game and don’t remember brutes partnering with cov before hunters , woulda been cooler to see. Anyways audience has no clue who the cov are, or why the arbiter is special. An episode dedicated to why he his with makee in first place would have been better than this 5th emotional dealings of reach episode we got. This reminds me a lot of the Witcher tbh. Show had problems but audience made it clear how to improve. S2E1 starts out absolutely perfect… then bam, straight downhill every episode after.
@@CrispedRanger96 He's not Thel Vadam. Silver Timeline n stuff. I am curious as to how this Elite became Arbiter. That's what this show should cover, not filler on Aleria.
I hope Chief just wakes up from cryostatis on the Pillar of Autumn at the first mission of Halo CE and this was one really bad nightmare he had. Then the show follows lore more accurately and we get an accurate halo CE season.
When they say monster is probably teasing the flood, since the covenant are treated like some kind of secondary villain, they say they are winning ,but they don't show the gravity of the situation so much so they feel like a minor inconvenience
Totally agree. To me, any screen with ‘Han’ I skip because it has absolutely no use to the main story. Everything with her is Filler and should be removed
6:20 The hologram is from Halo Wars but now yellow and without the symbols. It's the "button" used to active Forerunner technology in cutscenes on the shield world. Edit: i think this implies they're having this conversation on a forerunner ship. Idk tho i won't touch this show with a 10 foot pole.
The original story of Halsey getting the coordinates for Halo from the crashed Forerunner ship on Reach, that Noble Team gave their lives to get this information - and Cortana - safely to the _Pillar of Autumn,_ and the _Autumn_ then making a blind jump to Halo which just happened to be the turning point in the war for humanity in many ways is so much better, because it ties into a central theme of Halo: luck. It was just incredible luck that humanity even got to Halo in the first place.
I think if you go off the books Cortina devises the coordinates for halo from the relic Chief recovers from Sigma Octanus IV. Either way and either story leading to halo is more believable than this POS "alternate timeline"
Dave Filoni would've done it better, the man helped produce a show where only one dude voiced quite literally the largest cast of characters, all with the same voice, while at the same time making each one sound so unique and immediately recognizable. Give us a Halo TV show that follows the story of either an ODST or a squad of marines in which we see them take part in some of the most pivotal moments in Halo history while also giving us a fresh take on just how screwed humanity really was if not for the Master Chief.
Dave Filoni might have been great at one point but frankly he's fallen off with his more recent work. More over that's the work of D. Baker your giving credit to Filoni for lol
@@helljumper_212th7 Filoni is credited as the director the clone wars as a show, Baker was the VA responsible for bringing all the clones to life with his incredible work, Baker wasn’t even their first choice to voice the clones but Filoni insisted on having him due to his work in extensive animal and monster vocalizing, he even voiced the Gravemind in Halo 3 and Waddles from Gravity Falls which is quite funny when you think of it.
when i first heard of a Halo movie/series i’ve always envisioned it as, imagine all of Halo’s iconic cutscenes but adapted to the silver screen, more fleshed out, with in-game battles being made into well choreographed action scenes. if done that way, universe building wouldn’t be problematic as we’d all find additional lore, star wars-esque characters an extension of the canon story.
Just finished watching the episode. Bruh. The decisions are just so obviously made from a non-Halo knowledge base. The interactions between the Arbiter and Makee were actually really good, if they're going with SIIIs then I wonder if we'll get dedicated Arbiter storylines!!! As a Sangheili main, I can live with this.
100% the Kwan scene is setting up for the Flood, they need something equally mystical to set the tone perhaps. She's definitely gotta be a blessed one or something even more specific to the Forerunners, possibly.
The episode had me saying wtf twice which is a huge step up. I mean the worst one for me was Kwan magically using a shovel to dig in frozen dirt to bury the one guy. I can’t believe we will not see chief in the pillar of autumn. The very first time we ever see chief and the show doesn’t wanna do it
It's so sad... They had an established story and formula (one that is loved by at least two generations of gamers). And royaly, absolutely, fuck it up. Like looking at Halo and just being like "nahhhh".
They sure did I really wish they would get rid of Kwan and Makee. because they seriously don’t belong in the halo story I mean yeah there’s really nothing more. I could say that really annoys me the most.
Kia-125 will never match up to be Kurt-051. People liked Kurt, and his clairvoyance made him an important member of Blue Team. This Silver TL is "Bizarro World."
This was definitely a filler episode that didn't need to be stretched out as long as it did. There were some good moments of this episode, but they could have summed it up in the first quarter of the episode, and then the rest of the episode have Chief go find the ONI and meet up with Kai, etc. Here's to hoping that the rest of the episodes show Chief getting suited up again in full armor and reuniting with Kai. I've seen enough of Chief without his armor.
I can’t believe that this show actually happens like this. I mean it’s unbelievable. I couldn’t imagine actually working on this project. I just don’t think I could be a camera man or a worker. It is as if to work on this show you have to never have heard of the halo ip.
Stargate universe. Was saying the same thing. How do you go from Stargate the movie, to SG1 to Atlantis... and then you end up with a dumpster fire like Stargate Universe.. jesus it killed it off quick.
This is why the creators used Halo to tell their story, because they knew that Halo fans would be gullible enough to go and watch it and suck it up and continue watching it, even if it was more horrible than feces at the dump. If the creators made their own show, us Halo fans wouldn’t be watching it, but since it’s get the title “Halo” attached to it, they know we’ll all be dumb enough to check it out.
They could have made all 8 shows about the Fall of Reach with the cliffhanger being Chief and Cortana making it to the Pillar of Autumn, it getting breached by Covenant, and humans making it to Halo's surface. Season 3 would then be right in line with the video game.
Please remember that season 2 was greenlighted before season 1 aired, so far we didn’t get any info’s about season 3 confirmation. I think this show will get cancelled after this one. People are not happy with the show.
They mention in the show that Chief was actually unconscious for about 2 days. So he wasn't sent off during the fall of Reach. He missed it entirely lmfao. But dw, I'm sure they're going to the Halo ring justice, right?? Right?!?!?
I know this probably isn't the case but I hope the monster that the shaman talks about is the flood and the shaman lady is the librarian in disguise and giving kwan visions like in halo 4 when the librarian took cortana for part of a level
With episodes like this, I wonder if I should be envious or feel pity about those people not having played the games, and enjoy the show for what it is...
With all the shamans and mystic nonsense it really seems like they (The writers) had their own story but needed to link it to the Halo I.P to it to get it made. And it was stupid to go back for Vannak honestly also I'm guessing Kai will now have her pellet re implanted as surely the new leader of the Spartan threes will have had a full medical. As for the Fall of Reach I guess it was just too expensive to film so easier to just leave to go to a frontier world.
Couple of things I'm mulling over. Will give the built points. - Shamans in the show = the librarian in the game - Kia v Cheif showdown = Spartan Lock vs Cheif - the Dr is a permanent clone of herself ( her age is bothering me and Rizz comments on it in this ep)
I hope they don't give Kai Kurt,s death, I don't need to be reminded that Gary Stu existed and took all the attention away from other Spartans like Will.
I sometimes forget when you say "regular timeline" you mean the bronze timeline I was like "fuck u mean by Librarian chose humanity" then I was like right 343's lore
Im glad you mentioned older school TV here. Shows like LOST were brilliant because they were able to include small, quiet character moments without derailing from the main story or the episode's plot. The small moments filled in the broad strokes of characterisation so we get to know the characters while feeling like we are peering through a window into who they are.
I hate this made up Halo non Canon plot. In the regular timeline, before 343 came along.. -Forerunners ARE humans! Granted a different version of humans.. Like an ancient ancestor to the human race as we are today, but still genetically just human. The human - forerunner war was always supposed to be just a "human vs another version of human war" and the version of humans that lost the war were put on earth and devolved to cavemen status, the humans that won , "forerunners" whipped themselves out from the flood. Meaning any human can activate forerunner tech, because all forerunners were just another form of human. Leave it to 343 and these other companies to fuck up something so simple to understand.
The best part of the Halo TV show is recommending new comers to read the books and play the games instead because watching the TV show is like suffering through being infected by a flood spore.
a tiny detail i didn't notice in episode 4 is that when the cloaked elites are attacking civilians you can hear in the background an alarm system saying something like "please head to the new alexandria police station" so I think they retconned "reach city"
I know who the monsters in the cave are supposed to represent. It's not supposed to be the Flood or the Alliance, because of course the producers have watched a video and know that the Zerg are lurking inside Onyx, waiting to be freed by the MasterChief. True story
Oh also, way to completely disregard CPT Keys' final speech. "Oh look at John, his gonna fight and defend Reach without his armor!" Meanwhile John's thinking "fuck that I never cared for Keys or this planet, I'm gonna run away and find 1 kid"
Makes em wonder if you even watched the episode - The events of the episode didn’t play out 4-5 hours after the fall of Reach, or while it was under siege… Halsey says master chief was out for couple days and that, “there was nobody to left to save”, implying the planet was already glassed. Then she puts him under another couple of days until they could find a play to put down with a hospital - not saying it’s great writing, and it kinda sucks that it all happened off screen, but there’s more there than you seeming upset about.
Another part is the arbiter is talking about how they failed their mission and are just coming back, but the whole point of the arbiter is either they succeed or die trying they don't fail
Btw Quan talks about shield worlds when she's digging vanaks grave she says something like "you can't build an entire planet, its too big, u feel me?" And in season 1 when she goes the the weird which people on magical u can see a monitor so she probably got told all about the halos, shield worlds etc
I don't watch the show, I wouldn't pay for it because I see reviews first and if it's worth it then I'll watch it. I just watch your reactions to it, they are gold! I would pay for that actually hahaha
