the og head unit sends out digital low low volt signals which the bose amp translates to analog signals out to speakers....dumb system that alot of companies do now...lame
yes.. i wish theyd stop making offroad videos its cringey.. they go WOAAHH look at all this water im driving thru.. meanwhile a dodge caravan could handle that.. every video its oowh oh i might break something while they attempt obstacles at 5mph.. get a jeep and just mash it up those trails at 40-50kph it wont mind and a good driver could do it in 2wd when youre so stuck you have to get out thru the window and it takes two vehicles with winches and a couple hi-lift jacks to get you moving again then youre offroading... thats why people like jeeps because you can put them in those situations and the straight axles, small overhangs and straight body lines tucked behind fenders and rock sliders keep you from peeling it open like a sardine can
I know im asking randomly but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
that's another thing about this modern era, everything is a soccer mom crossover with big rims and low profile tires. personally sick of it, constantly busting tires. one of the main reasons im going over to big alpha trucks with pawg tires.
Paul Garcia have you fellas ever drove the H3 and FJ cruiser? How much worse is the gas mileage with the H2 versus these? I’m trying to decide what truck I want. I’m mostly a nature/wildlife photographer who wants to explore more remote areas. Not really doing any super intense off roaring as far as rock crawling. Any thoughts or suggestions on what may be best? Thanks.
@@MrGflan I had a 2007 FJ manual 6- speed, and a 2010 FJ automatic both fully loaded. I can tell you that the fuel mileage for an FJ is horrendous for the first 30,000k until the 4.0L breaks in. I’m sure the H2 would get good mileage on the hwy once you get that mass moving. I miss my Fudges a lot!
i still think the price was bit much and with diesel itd be worse and enviormentaly friendly cars were the fad. i think itd do amazing today with or without as long as it had warranty. i think the electric will be cool tho
@Chris Rife There is 6.6l Duramax diesel engine swap ( 450 hp 910 lb ft), on the Hummer H1 which gives it much more power and performance than the original engine plus and an average of 15 mpg compared to 10mpg of the original engine. That engine in this H2 would make it so much better, diesel makes a lot of sense when you have a heavy vehicle.
@@codyparker679 I hope the guy has a youtube channel to gain some revenue off what sounds like a 10-15k of work done to a vehicle that was already overpriced.
The H2 has always been good, having used them for mud bogging and rock crawling in Canadian river. I can say other trucks with higher lifts can’t keep up. And everyone throws the Ford raptor or Jeep in the picture they forget the H2 will out tow them with air suspension.
Andre....on my H2 it had the Bose sound system and I had to buy an adapter kit to get it work with an aftermarket head unit...doesn't matter if you soend $99 or $999 you either have to bypass and run ALL new speaker wires to each speaker or purchase the bose adapter. Sorry. Hope that helps. Been there and done it.
Correct. If it has a factory amped system it will not work with an aftermarket radio. If there is an adapter available go that way otherwise you will need new speakers and will need to run new wires to them from the head unit.
Yep, remove the factory amp and imo replace it and the speakers, the jump in sound quality vs the cost of aftermarket car audio these days is worth the work. Never hurts to run rca’s for any future expansion while the dash is apart either 🍻
I average 12.5. Many people drive cars that cost 2 to 4 times as much like a new Audi SUV or BMW SUV or used Toyota truck, or even a new Honda accord or Toyota Camry. So its hilarious when the cost of gas is every persons concern. Like dude I have 20 grand in my pocket for gas compared to your choice. People have become robots that watch programs to be programmed and can't think for themselves.
Andre you love this truck and that’s all that matters, plus that H2 is a big big beast on a snow covered steep trail, id say that many of these ever left the pavement. A guy at our local UPS center has a H3 pickup and absolutely loves the thing!!! Got a awesome deal on it when Hummer went out of business and unlike my F150, he never sees another one ever around here!
Snow isn't the problem. It's the ice underneath. MT tires are useless on ice. Nobody runs MT in the winter here. AT or winters on the northern prairies. Although MT tires are awesome in the summer👍
Yea in my personal experiences. MTs for mud, sand, wet sand, any trails that aren’t layered with ice/snow. Ats wayyy better on the road, better on ice and snow.
@@HioSSilver1999 Not where I live😀 When it routinely gets down to -30 to -40°F the ground is frozen solid. When it starts to melt is the only time mud is a problem. The bigger question is why the hell I live here🤣
@@rodneymckee8431 Old ones yes. New ones have their fair share of serious issues. DPF/DEF issues. 80s and 90s Hiluxes were incredibly tough however, more than the newer ones.
I’ve used PAC radio pro adapters on a few Bose systems and have had nothing but good experiences. It’s the easiest way to integrate an aftermarket sound system in a Bose equipped vehicle while keeping OnStar and xm.
@@jtobias17 yeah, except the the stock speakers will sound like shit if you're wired directly to them. Either gut the whole system or get the correct adapter.
@@ffhjvbuydb78eb what he actually mean is that people who hate it never ever take them off road AT ALL, which means that they had faced it's disadvantages over it's big advantages.
The snow you got stuck on could probably have been done. For one those mud terrains aren’t doing you any favors. Also if you give the h2 consistent throttle the traction control does a good job of distributing power eventually and pull you through.
If I remember correctly, I think in August 2001, I was on the Rubicon Trail and they were testing the new Hummer. It had all of the "badges" blacked out, but you could still make out letters Hummer on the back bumper. When I asked the driver about it he said he could not talk about it.. LOL. I remember seeing a lot of new shiny metal on the rocks where the Hummer had traversed. But back then it was still amazing at the time.
Dingish that’s true, and of course if people think it looks ugly then people pass it over, with a truck the mechanical aspect is what’s most important.
That's all you need if you want to go off-road. Front and rear lockers. No point in having only one or the other. That's a pretty dumb feature on the hummer h2 to have only the rear lockers but no front lockers. Its basically always going to be useless.
@@JoHn-if6wy the hummer is brake assisted. Which acts like a locker. It works pretty good, I very rarely have to lock the rear. It just takes a little rpm to activate it. That is why he was having issues.
Replace the H2's entire front end with a locked solid axle and you've basically solved every issue with it. Tougher steering, better articulation, locker... it would be an off-road monster.
Andre hope youve fixed the issue already but if you havent hummer has to have a bypass kit installed under the center console for none stock headunits. Look it up online on hummer forums they talk about it all the time
I really enjoyed this because I remember when everyone wanted a Hummer. I wish you guys would find an H3 now and do the same with it. Everyone always claims the H3 was just a Colorado but that wasn’t the case because I’m pretty sure the Hummer H3s had a 4:1 transfer case.
When TFL bought the truck, they filmed Nathan stepping outside the office for a first look (having not been told it was a Hummer) and he muttered “We’re so effed.” It was totally authentic and one of TFL's funniest moments.
For amplified H2 you could run the Axxess(Metra) AXGM-04 or perhaps Crux SONGM-11 or SOOGM-15, or PAC OS-2X. Prices vary depending whether you care about keeping steering controls
The OnStar system can be changed to the newer system actually. XM from this generation still works fine. You just need a head unit and adapter that will work with it.
Toyota is reportedly bringing an off-road focused version of the Land Cruiser in 2021, so for me it's either that or a delayed release of a new FJ Cruiser. Toyota would have to put years of R&D before producing a new FJ Cruiser, but the new Land Cruiser is almost complete. It would be nice to see a new FJ Cruiser though.
@@Choppingwood83 I think youre mistaking the land ROVER for the land cruiser. The LC has pretty much been the benchmark for overlanding rigs the last 40 years. Toyota used to claim the components were built to last 25 years of rugged use.
@@brians7727 guess I should b really stoked for jeep offroad competition. Could never rationalize the price vs reliability gor an off road rig and only vehicle, jeeps reliability scare me. I gotta get more dpun up on all this new stuff after I get my gardens in.
I love seeing videos like this, hummer owners have been knowing they’re cars were made to handle much more than just the street but everyone laughed cause they only ever see them as grocery getters.
Very Nice! I have the same color but with a major outback bar that i put on it. I unfortunately haven't been able to drive it because two idiots were suppose to replace my engine with a rebuilt one and they both dont know what they did so i had them tow it back home. Cut all ties with those two idiots. Always be sure you do research on persons that will be working on your truck.
There is a kit to fix the exhaust manifold leak without taking it apart . Kral auto parts I think is the name $28.00 . Worked great on my 2004 Silverado 3500 6.0.
It sometimes helps to not follow in track in snow. You're spinning tires on ice where everybody else got stuck. Moving over a couple inches might have helped. You may need more momentum making your own tracks, though. Hopefully y'all see this.
Hey Andre. I agree with the others that the speakers don't work with the aftermarket stereo because of the factory amplifier. I looked up the Hummer on Crutchfield. Do you have the PAC RP5-GM11 Wiring Interface? www.crutchfield.com/p_541RP5GM11/PAC-RP5-GM11-Wiring-Interface.html
Ya the MPG sucks over all. But honestly is it really much different than the pickups and large SUVs of the time (Suburban, Excursion)? It seems to be pretty on par with all the old trucks I've had over the years. And they didn't have 35 inch tires and all the other off road goodies either. Hell, 11mpg would of been an improvement from the f-150 I had in school.
How tall are you André ? there is not much headroom for you, would be painful running offroad at speed ! Fascinates me that Americans are so obsessed with cupholders, can’t you guys go anywhere without drinking all the time ? I mean, with that kind of fuel consumption you have to get fuel every couple of hours, surely you can wait that long before your next overhydration !
Under powered, Top heavy Bad weight displacement Not made anymore Horrible vision from driver's seat The worse M.P.G. You can buy a used Hummer for $3000.00 if it still runs!😜🤪😝
My father used to have an H2 and man it was a smooth ride and has such an aggressive stance. I drive an H3, which I think is a little more practical off road due to its smaller size, but that H2 was a lot of fun. Wish he would’ve kept it
Ive had 2 of these H2's. One a 2003 and one 2005 model. They get a lot of smack talk, but aside from the gas mileage, they ride like an Escalade, ive never gotten one stuck and I tried. Nothing crazy like a big mud pit, but they'll climb, they'll walk over almost anything, and they're super comfortable. One of the few trucks I would like to have back.
Putting an auto or full locker in the front will make that thing just about bulletproof off road. That and some full time cameras would make it a great 4x4. Forget jeep. They are too expensive and not powerful enough. A good condition H2 is awesome. H1s are too expensive and H3s were junk since they came out right before the bankruptcy. Decent running gear since it was mostly the same, but the interiors fell apart. I believe they also had the first gen DoD, which were riddled with problems.
I thought the long ridiculous stigma of the h2 being the most hated suv has long passed, are there really angry Karens and tree huggers that wanna egg and key your h2? These vehicles are actually rather impressive and a hell of a package for the money, with the exception of a terrible interior mainly in the earlier h2’s. Some think they are just a giant superficial Fisher-priced suburban, as far as being just an h2 on a truck/suv chassis and drivetrain but the truth is they did TONs of changes and alterations to the h2 that makes it quite impressive on paper and it’s kind of a Frankenstein. I personally love the h2 and think they are so unique, and one day may be considered ‘classics’ because they are rare and can be beasts off-roading
Has anyone thought of snow when it starts to melt...wet packed snow when driven on does what...? Turns to ICE! When was the last time "any" off road tire or any tire had good traction on ice??? It's not that he didn't have a good line.... he was on ice!
Andre, you sure that center diff is locking? Couple of times I could swear the FP tire was spinning and the rear wasn't. Something just didn't seem right for 2x locked. Oh, and when you fix that oil gauge stepper motor, do all 6 or 7 of them. They will all fail at some point if they are original.
I replaced my factory radio with a new one and it has a remote control for about $200 and I love it! I also replaced my engine with a brand new from GM.... because the previous owner never changed the oil😬
I once had to drive an H2 from Florida to sugar mountain NC trying to keep an average speed between 75/85 did the whole trip and filled up 8 times before getting there , the trip back to FL almost 10 times ; for total of around 700$! 😂 (2012) the next year I did the same trip but this time rented a Jeep Patriot well 😅 went to the exact same place to Nc total cost of renting the car+gas under 400$ as soon as I got back well went an trade in my H2 for a f150 4x4 so the next year went to same exact trip again well 😂😂 I got stuck arriving to sugar mountain had to call a tow to get us to the cabin next day the truck wouldn't start had the call the a tow again took to the dealer because even after changing the batt nothing happened well the starter got changed tried to finish our vacation went back to Florida ,1800$ later learned my lesson went back to the dealer got a 4 runner went back again and did the same exact same trip no problem since 😅😂
Funny how in 10 years GMs politics changed so much. Hummer H2 at 10 mpg to a “zero emission” all electric future. Hope your next electric hummer works just as well.
At the current rate things are going, "new GM" may not even exist in a few years. And the world will celebrate. Besides the 'muh enviorment' people, i dont think anyone hated the hummer. But they will when it goes electric, and destroys the legacy these once great trucks left behind.
Our hummer has an electrical drain that can’t be found. The batter is always dead. The interior rattles like crazy. SO SLOW. And the gas mileage lol I couldn’t get from memphis to Nashville without filling up half way there. 3 hour drive and couldn’t make it.
Something is definitely wrong with your H2 then. I drove mine from Johnson City, TN to Clarksville, TN with about 1/4 tank left over. And that's with 37 inch tires. The BCM went bad on my old H2 and caused a severe battery drain. It started out draining within a week of not driving it, but eventually got so bad it would be dead overnight.
Is an excellent commuter and very reliable truck which never breaks-down. I do not understand why/who hate it. I had the latest edition for 8years and I drive it every day.... a small block V8, 6.2 l and with an cold-air intake upgrade installed and never care about gas. Why would you buy a cheap upgrade instead the Bose system upgrade for a screen??
You need an adapter to bypass on star. You totally have to disconnect on star and use an adaptor to fix it. It would be wise to add some speakers and a sub. Your frequency will be really off. I had a 2003 envoy xuv. On star is a pain. Just by pass and you will be fine
Isn't the H2 just a suburban chassis with the H2 body on it? I think I read that somewhere before. Still a cool truck. I also like the suburban too 🤣👍🏻🤘🏻
Unfortunately GM vehicles do not age well. Quality will always be a negative with GM. H2's value are still increasing. It's great to see the H2 is a capable off road beast. I drove a real Hmmv during 4yrs in the USArmy, including Desert Sheild&Storm. 24th ID.
@@jamestindall67 when we got to Saudi Arabia, my truck had a half shaft missing/removed. I got suck all the time for the first month! That sand was brutal! Nothing like NTC! I was a 12B
I think aside from the tie rods giving it a stigma, these things were hated because most people put huge rims on them and did that whole early 2000s rap look. Also the tons of chrome and that it didn’t really stand up to the brutal rawness of the original. I think if the H3 was the only model they released after H1 it may have had a slightly better image as a brand.
BFG KM2s suck. I run Falken Wildpeak M/T on my 2 door JK with shallow siping at 25 psi in the winter in British Columbia, Canada and they worked good. 18 psi off road deep snow even better!
