A simple salad I grew up eating is sliced cucumbers, sliced tomatoes, and thinly sliced onions. Toss in olive oil and add salt and pepper. Super simple but delicious.
Yes and maybe some chive, grated feta, parsley, anchovies and grated carrot or turnip with a generous helping pf Caesar salad dressing and some freshly baked croutons, super simple and easy!
Cucumbers sliced and marinated in different vinegars with salt and drizzled with olive oil was comfort food in my mother's home. She was an unrecognized genius!
Smart people (Dr Berg is a smart person) know how to communicate and have empathy for their listeners even before they listen... they anticipate questions creating presentations that give information not too fast for us slow learners
I’m 5 days in keto 2.0 and had a cucumber yesterday and was hoping it was going to be approved by Dr Berg and this morning here is this video. Amazing.
Dr.Berg, can you do a video on Histamine Intolerance? Only 2% of the population has this autoimmune disease. I need help ASAP I can’t eat anything at all except carrots & onions.. (please thumb this up so Mr.Berg can see this) thank you.
Dr. Eric Berg DC thank you so so much for replying! I’ve seen that video 2 months ago but that’s just a little summary of H.I. All the ‘yes’ foods in that video, I can’t eat those. Those still give me a reaction. Only thing I eat daily are: Carrots, Onions, Almonds, Almond milk, Cane sugar for sweetener, Fiber Oat, Corn (barley), Millet flour, & black chick pea flour... everything else gives me a bad reaction. I’ve been dealing with this for 2 years now. It’s hell. For supplements I take probiotics, magnesium, k2 + d3 since it helps get rid of excess levels of histamine. I’m also a vegetarian so I can eat animals for DAO enzymes. Can you please please do a detailed video on histamine intolerance & its cure?? So I can live like a normal human being..
I've been eating cucumbers every day, and my triglycerides level dropped to normal level for the very first time under 150! I will continue to do that! ❤ thanks, Dr. Berg!
I like to garden. I don't have it all figured out but I can grow cucumbers very well. I make a creamy cucumber salad with sour cream (not the Lite stuff), vinegar, and some spices. Out of this world.
Dr. Berg I recently found your channel. Your videos are well done. I would like to share with you the hummus recipe that my Moroccan neighbors shared with me. Ingredients - 1 can organic chickpeas - 1TBS organic greek yogurt - 1TBS organic sour cream - 1TBS organic Tahini - 0 - 3 cloves of garlic. minced ( you can sauté the garlic to mellow it or you can leave it raw I enjoy it both ways) - Sumac - organic lemon - organic Olive Oil - organic cilantro, chopped Directions Drain the chickpeas of their excess liquid by pouring that liquid into a cup. Reserve the liquid. Place the drained peas, yogurt, sour cream and tahini and optional garlic into the blender and blend it up. Add as much of the reserved chickpea liquid as is necessary for the hummus to be the consistency that you like. Once you are done blending, place the hummus into a serving dish. Refrigerate 6hours - overnight to let the flavor develop in the hummus Just before serving: Sprinkle sumac on top. Squeeze a little lemon on top. Pour some olive oil on top. Sprinkle chopped cilantro on top. Enjoy Dr Berg and Keep up the excellent work!
I never knew how much benefits cucumbers had. I don’t eat much cucumbers but when I do it’s very refreshing like watermelon but cucumbers also just make my body feel more revitalized.
I agree the information is correct and the delivery is presented to encourage evolution towards a slimmer more efficient species... If we all followed Dr Berg we would all be beautiful people.... guaranteed.
Absolutely adore cucumber 🥒 . Cukes are related to melons and they have a similar perfumed flavour, only more green and fresh. They are great sliced into iced water with lime and strawberries in summer. I love the crunchy texture. They’re fantastic for the complexion and I’ve even read they may help prevent degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
A neighbor had an abundance of cucumbers this year... a good year for cucumbers? Last year it was shopping bags full of zuchinnis on my porch. I love zuchinni... once a year... as zucchini bread.... at Christmas.
My tummy always feels great after eating a cuke...like eat a melon too..but without the sugars. I use it to flavor water ,along with lemon, lime ,mint and basil.
The only way I can keep from munching out in the late hours is simple. Try to not have any in the pantry. Me I won’t walk a block to buy munchies but if they’re in the house they start calling me around 10:00 PM🥴
we have all been there. try replacing the craving with extra dark chocolate and walnuts or brazil nuts and some beet juice. you will like the taste once you have had it a couple of times. really great high energy and satisfying feeling
A couple of months ago, I started fermenting cukes. I slice hot house or Kirby cukes and add garlic cloves and dill to the salt water solution. I let them ferment on the counter for 2-3 days and then refrigerate. They are delicious!
@@wchiwinky check out farmhouseonboone here on YT for the exact instructions for safety. She also has a website. When we used regular salad cukes with all of the seeds, the results were slimy and mushy. Firmer, less seedy varieties like Kirby and English/hot house seem to work best. Have fun!
I grew the best cucumbers ive ever had this year, a veriety called tamra which is a heirloom seed, totally delicious and a heavy cropper! give it a try.
I'm up to my ears in cucumbers from my garden at the moment, I also make my own hummus with olive oil. I have my snack ready then and I love both these items.
I never get tired of these videos, I am still a sponge when it comes to information and no one provides more great useful and easily digestible health information than Dr. Berg. Being Armenian, I've grown up with being accustomed to eating cucumber/tomato/onion/cilantro/lemon juice salad ever since I was a kid, we usually eat the Persian style cucumbers but I love pickled cucumbers as well. It's great to hear about the Bubbie's brand of fermented cucumbers. I've always loved that brand but I guess never paid attention that they are fermented versus the regular pickled cucumbers that are mostly sold in stores. Love the info Dr. Berg, please don't stop putting out these short but very informational videos. You're my only trusted health professional I get information from anywhere.
I put cucumber slices in water and drank that everyday for 3 months. I lost 50 pounds and it healed my ulcer. Sometimes I would add lemon slices to jazz it up.
I love cucumbers! One way I love to eat them is sliced on a plate, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkled with kosher salt and cracked black pepper, and sometimes I add a bit of fresh grated parm. It gives the "taste" of what I used to dip fresh baked crusty bread into, without the carbs. I know, not the same as the bread, but I do love that taste :)
@Aniruddh Rabinder Nath I'm pretty sure that, with neural imaging, it's been proven that the brain runs more efficiently on ketones rather than glucose. Humans didn't always eat as often as we do now, so they were naturally in ketosis much more often than modern day humans. The Asians are eating more calories overall so of course they're going to gain weight. That's merely their ignorance at play. Corporate greed does play a role but people also need to take some responsibility for what they shove down their throats.
Soaking cucumber overnight and drinking the water 3xdaily, I started doing it to lose a little weight, but the effect it has on my skin amazing.. So beautiful.. Omg
Great contribution to our health, and all this sharing...l believe its a gift...everyone loves a cuck....thnk the creator for our cucks...l just made 2 containers, bay leaves, hymalian salt, garlic &dill....cooled cooked water..What if l add atablespoon of applecider vinegar and some of my fermented sourcraute water too ?
I really like that you present everything written on your board with direct and most important points of each subject. You make it simple to understand, something that other health teachers should take note of, and you relate to common folks. So glad I found your videos. Thank you so much always. Awesome doctor. Yeah cucumbers. Aloha
My mom always had cucumbers in our fridge marinating in rice vinegar, with black-sesame seeds and course salt. Delightful! Her father, my wonderful grandfather, would step out into his vegetable garden, pick a cucumber, pull a salt shaker out of his pocket, and eat away.
😊 YOU ARE INCREDIBLE DR BERG ... SUCH A POWERFUL PRESENCE... CONSISTENT DELIVERY... OF THE DATA AVAILABLE... TO LEARN... GROW... DEVELOPE... IMPROVE ... AND BENEFIT... FROM THE QUALITY OF LIFE... ONE CAN HAVE... IF WISE CHOICES ARE CONSTANTLY MADE... YOU'RE WORK ETHIC IS IMPECCABLE... 👍🏻👏♥️
Dr Berg, wondering if you have any thoughts on moringa? I have been taking it for years for arthritis and it’s helped me immensely. I’ve heard it’s also good for diabetes and weight loss
MORE focus on cucumbers in MY gardens going forward! (only have ONE this season so far and it's getting late for planting) My limited understanding is that you definitely want fatty dressing, not only for cucumber but maximizing nutrient absorption from greens, etc. EVOO is my go to.
I have had an extreme craving for cucumbers for about 2 weeks now. I eat them cold, peeled and a little bit of salt on them. Right now my fav lemon cucumbers are in and I just can't stop eating them. Funny you post a video about cucumbers today. Thank you.
@@milkoansah-johnson8768 To make low-salt cucumbers you will need the following ingredients: • ground cucumbers, • dill, • pickles in the proportion of 1 tablespoon of salt per 1 liter of water, • spices: garlic , horseradish root, and you can add flavor and firmness by adding, such as: oak, currant or cherry leaves.
Japan was full of fermented vegetables, just everything you can buy they have fermented versions there... that is why I felt so good there!!! last winter even though we couldn`t eat so much of a raw vegetables ...
We eat 2 types of cucumber salad and both are super delicious: 1 - cut cucumbers small rounds, add couple of smashed garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, red chilli powder, mint powder. 2-cut cucumbers into cubes, smash couple of garlic, bring some yogurt put it in a bowl ad the smashed garlic mix it, add mint powder some (chilli powder exceptional) little bit of salt stir all well and eat it, it is super healthy and super refreshing in summer.
Thank you so much Dr Eric, I really really enjoyed watching you talk about cucumbers 🥒 to us all. It’s so amazing what you can get from a ordinary cucumber isn’t it? I’m going shopping 🛍 today, so I’ll be cornering the market in cucumbers!!!!!!! Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Awesome program! Thank you Doctor, a gift for you my personal Hummus recipe. Very easy, just puree the ingredients. I can of Chickpeas, also called Garbanzo beans (healthier to cook the dry beans of same amount). 1/3 cup of low salt vegetable broth, 1 1/2 lemons squeezed, 3 teaspoons of Tahini, (can substitute 1 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil), 3 garlic cloves, sea salt to taste, 1/2- 1 tsp of olive oil optional. Also an old family summer salad, sliced cucumbers and onions with salt pepper and garlic to season mixed with a small amount of vinegar. Very refreshing, in the winter my Mom would add a bit of sour cream to this. Thanks again for all of your great wisdom!
What if I pickle with bragg ACV and use monk fruit as the sweetener? I assumed that was healthy although I ferment lots of foods in just grey sea salt and water as well. I make homemade dills that are seriously delish using my dill, my garlic, my shallots, my cukes, my grape leaves and my hot peppers all from my garden.
I feel like you are inside my mind everytime I’m thinking of something I see it the next day or within the week. How do you do it? Thank you for all the amazing information as always. I always tell my mom remember what Dr Berg said lol when I have to reminder her to not eat bad food.
You need about 2400 mg of sodium each day. If you’re an athlete like me you may want to consume closer to 3500 mg. Just try to make sure it’s sea salt and not all processed iodized salt since that stuff can make the face puffy
I always love eating cucumbers alone, with a salad, and sometimes by mixing them with a plain zero added sugar yogurt. Also, I add a high-quality EVOO on my salad!
@@ilovethebeach1877 - Nope; I cut up cukes & into the bowl; then I open a can of sardines, then hold said can under cold water to rinse first; then empty into said bowl. Then I add some hydrolyzed collagen powder, the aforementioned spices then olive oil, lemon juice; mash it, eat it. Obviously I'm not a foodie or any sort of gourmet; I have a philosophy of eating that precludes aesthetics & includes a certain dismay over how our culture considers food (or, more commonly, "food-like substances") that I will not burden you with here. I'll just add that I don't eat from 2 AM until 6 PM ("Time Restricted Eating") so that when I finally do eat this at 6, I'm pretty hungry. PS- Stay away from the beach during tropical storms or depressions of any kind (except perhaps economic depressions: your call), including of course cat. 1, 2, 3-5 hurricanes. Other than that I guess you can love the beaches that are left; they're steadily shrinking due to the ravenous appetite of the rising seas that are constantly eating more and more of the land every passing day or so it seems. Rant over and out. PS- I suppose you could make a dressing at that... but that sounds like work, to which I tend to be allergic.
Thanks for the video on cucumbers I eat a half a cucumber almost everyday with healthy olive oil mayonnaise from Primal kitchen so that was very interesting to hear that from you sometimes I eat them raw but sometimes I use that mayonnaise so that's great to know thanks a lot
Wow!?!?! I learn so much through your videos! Thank you for sharing. I love cucumbers, but never know I wasn't maximizing their nutritional value. One question, does avocado oil work the same as olive oil?
Food should be good and taste good too... our food these days taste good but are bad for us as food designers designed nutrition out of food in preference for taste and texture.
I'm so envious. I'm under investigation for an esophageal ulcer - or at least Gerd without acid - and I've found that when I eat anything acidic, it flares an attack - 'lump' sensation in my throat and chronic burping. I wonder if I could rinse the fermented veg to remove the vinegar and still enjoy the benefits? Unfortunately, the UK health system has all but collapsed so I could be waiting 2-3 years for the investigation. Great channel by the way!
Vinegar will pickle the process.. not ferment it. Buy yourself some Sauerkraut, remove the cabbage Leave the juices in the jar Add the cucumbers and close the jar. Leave in a dry area, generally 25°C room temp for approx 7-10 days.
@Ncyim Thank you very much. I've never been sick! But this started back in April and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with 'the' virus. I started with breathlessness and chest tightness and as those symptoms went, I developed the 'lump' in the throat sensation plus burping. I've never been tested for the virus, but wonder if it could be viral damage that I've suffered. I'll look into the method that you've mentioned. Thanks again.
Robert C Lynch , years ago I had that same "lump in my throat sensation. I was sure I had a tumor in my throat or something. Had a scope and it was just reflux "Gerd" causing the feeling. Took a antacid like Prilosec and Reglan for a while and got better. Although I had to wean myself off of it because you shouldn't be on it for more than 2 weeks. Dr. Berg has some videos on the topic of reflux. I actually started drinking a TBSP. raw apple cider vinegar in a cup of water 2 times a day and it helped greatly. He says it's actually the problem of not Enough acid in your stomach that's the problem but check out his videos.
@@jenniferdahl4010 Thank you for such a detailed reply. It really helps - and like you, I thought - tumour?? Because acid seems to badly affect whatever it is, I'm worried about taking apple cider vinegar - to raise acid - when I'm taking Lansoprazole to suppress acid. Also, I began drinking vinegar in water back in February - and not long after, this issue began. Hopefully I can get off the meds and look after myself.
I wish I could eat them that way---it sounds really good---but I'm allergic to dairy and all allium vegetables (onions, garlic, leeks, shallots, etc.), unfortunately.
I see cucumber word, i click because i eat 1 cucumber a day and i love it !! But.. Is it enough if i just blend cucumber with avocado, chiaseed, broccoli and bokchoy?
@@Username01invalid I consume it for breakfast. Avocado is only fat source. Because i'm too lazy to steam cucumber first. I wish i still get great nutrition from cucumber.
Always such great info and content, you got me to start this Keto lifestyle and actually inspired me to start my own vlog documenting my keto weight loss journey. I started at 531lbs last week (embarrassing I know) but have lost 20lbs this week with Keto, exercise and intermittent fasting.... Thanks so much for everything you do.
