I went completely Vegan over 3 years ago right before my 51st birthday. It was the very best decision of my life!! I had tried to go Vegan decades earlier but didn't have the correct tools to transition properly (or at least I didn't know I did!!) I'm so thankful that I have turned my life and health around for the better and no longer contribute to animal cruelty and death! This is really hard because I see so many friends and family suffering and they ignore nearly everything I try to tell them (doesn't seem to matter how I approach it). People resist change and eating is very personal for a lot of people. Unless they gain a deep conviction of the truth through their own research and discovery they don't see a need or have a desire to change their lifestyle.

How are you going health wise? Did you stick to the Ornish diet?
@kevinc1315
@kevinc1315 Год назад
@@zoe9632 - Yes, I have stuck with it. To be precise, I follow a Whole Food Plant Based Diet which is very similar to the Ornish diet, only better. I still suffer from fibromyalgia but other than that, my health is excellent. None of my immediate family members follow the diet including my wife. I make my own meals most of the time and have done so for several years now.

@@kevinc1315 Hi Kevin. I’ve just been diagnosed with coronary artery disease and I’m currently working out the best way to not only get better but to try reverse it. Can you tell me why your version of the Ornish diet is better? Thanks.
@kevinc1315
@kevinc1315 Год назад
@@powderedharp9603 - My diet is enhanced so saying it is better doesn't give you an accurate picture. Everything Dr. Ornish said was correct. New information, science, and studies have come out since Dr. Ornish's pioneering discoveries and research. If you have coronary artery disease you absolutely must eliminate all meat, eggs, and oils in your diet (plant based unprocessed foods that contain oil and fat are fine). I've learned how to cook food without using bottled oils (use a bit of water and stir the food more frequently). Oil is fat and tastes great. That is why it is included in so many processed foods. Most restaurants use lots of oil and fat in their entrees also for the very same reason. If the food doesn't taste great, people won't be inclined to come back. Meat and eggs are also full of unhealthy fat. I season my food with onion and garlic which are really healthy and promote clean arteries. Turmeric would also be a great choice in your case (check with your doctor first if you are on blood thinners). I follow most of Dr. Michael Greger's advice on nutritionfacts.org plus a few additions of my own. There is a ton of great information on that site that will help you. Best of luck to you! Update: If you are new to a Whole Food Plant Based Diet, there are a few supplements that you should take to ensure you aren't deficient in any essential nutrients: B12, D3 with K2. I also supplement with a small amount of Zinc with Copper, Magnesium, Selenium, and Folate (mainly to help with my Fibromyalgia). Don't believe anyone who tells you that you don't need to supplement with anything on a WFPB Diet. People have died from a chronic deficiency of B12.

I have been only about ten days on a plant based diet and my blood glucose has returned to normal and I feel encouraged. Ayurvedic doctors used to advise my grandfather and father on such diet back in the fifties when I was a child. I recall some of their conversations and the gist was eat varieties of vegetarian diets and eat less. Nothing is new but we should know better. Dr Dean Ornish has been advocating this since the nineties. It is regrettable that it took me a Doctor this long to listen to his advice even if I believe him. But I am glad to follow his advice. Thanks for your discussions.

Completed 30+ marathons in 3 years . 10 marathons in just month of November. Did 3 ultras including a 100 miler. Yeah, I'm definitely sold on plant based. The recovery rate is just insane. @veganfortheanimals6994
@veganfortheanimals6994 4 года назад
Neither are vegan. Arnold is eating more plants now and less meat. And as for Cage, I don't see any info on him being plant-based. That's great to hear that you want to eat plant-based. I have a ton of advice, but it's best to keep things short and to the point. Smash in a ton of calories. Focus the bulk of your food intake on starchy carbs (rice, beans, potatoes, lentils, whole grain pastas and sprouted grains, quinoa, oatmeal, those sort of things). Get the greens in every day as well as fruit, nuts, and seeds. My typical eating day goes like this: Breakfast: steel cut oatmeal with blueberries, raisins, cinnamon, ground flax seeds, hemp seeds, I cook with water but you can do almond or any other nut milk, or you can do overnight oats with these. I also have an apple. Lunch: burrito, homemade with homemade chili mixed with quinoa, salsa, guacamole, hot sauce in a wrap (I use sprouted grains, but you can use any); also a sprouted grain bagel (whole or half) with almond butter; fruit of your choice. Dinner: giant salad with avocado and veggies; veggie burger (good quality one) in a sprouted grain bun, with condiments. Fruit. I also have a smoothie daily: cashew milk with frozen bananas, kale leaves, hemp seeds, peanut butter. I also drink kots of water. Take 2,500 mcg of vitamin B12 weekly. Avoid oils and processed stuff as much as you can. Eat whole foods, basically things right from the ground. The youtuber named plantbasedathlete has a few good videos on what to eat, advice, etc. Check out his channel, see below. Eating the way I mentioned will get you plant-based, and if you want to go vegan, then eat plant-based and watch Dominion (2018) on RU-vid. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J43Gi-1v4bo.html

Vegan For The Animals Ⓥ Thank you so much for all of your advice! I really appreciate it! I though the guy on the thumbnail of this video was Nicholas Cage; my mistake. @veganfortheanimals6994

@@BestAudiovisualTricks No problem....if you have any questions, you can also direct message me on instagram at vegan_for_the_animals_1 RU-vid doesn't always notify me when someone responds to my comment, which is annoying. And no, that's not Nick Cage in the thumbnail, that's Dr. Ornish. Yeah, I would definitely recommend avoiding cow milk or goat's milk, there's a lot of evidence showing we should avoid that (it raises our chances of getting prostate cancer, and creates systemic inflammation in our bodies, for example; plus it is an extremely cruel industry, plus, animal milk is essentially for babies; we are not babies; nut milks are a good alternative). Hemp or cashew or soy or oat milk, etc., is a personal preference. I would recommend an unsweetened one, and one without carrageenan. Califia and Silk make a good product, but they are all decent. A lot of people like oat milk, but they are usually higher calorie. (You can make your own if you want though). I like the cashew milk I mentioned in the previous post. Also, the guy Jay from plantbasedathlete has some other videos. He hasn't been very active on youtube lately, and took down some of his videos (don't know why), but I think he is still active on Instagram. My recent burning question is something like- I no longer believe that cholesterol is the 'thing' we need to control to avoid heart disease. That said, both the plant based and animal based groups present gobs and gobs of anecdotal stories of countless people who have reduced or even eliminated things like diabetes, heart disease, etc. I've only been able to find some doctors (who are pro-low-carb, not plant based per se) who discuss how heart disease actually works. Nothing from the plant based guys (that I have been able to find) that says 'here is why animal fat causes heart disease' other than it raises cholesterol. It seems an all plant based or an all animal based diet work to eliminate metabolic disease- which Ivor Cummins makes a great case about it being the true cause of heart disease and many other chronic issues. So, the question- how, specifically, does eating saturated animal fat cause heart disease to go up? (not a correlation type study, but a discussion on the actual mechanics of how the food goes into the body and causes various reactions that lead to the development of heart disease, please... otherwise it is just more feet stamping that I can't seem to hear past...) Thank you in advance!

@@jmcadoesvids359 The patients' prior health history and trajectory is the control. Now when you are talking about 10% changes in outcomes, then the differences are so small that you really must have a randomized study. But what Esselstyn has shown is that is people are compliant with the diet--even with a history of major CVD events--rates of major CVD events for the group drop to zero or almost zero. And he is still seeing patients and still reporting the same pattern of results--I went to hear one of his talks in 2018 and 2019. So when keto shows it can eliminate heart disease progression (and has long-term evidence of efficacy), then it's in the ballgame, but till then, it doesn't have proven long-term efficacy for anything. AS ALWAYS....ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO FROM PBN As many know, I like to share this personal story.... I am from TEXAS....land of MEAT and DAIRY....and yes, for 50 years I was a die hard everyday meat and dairy consumer. 25 years ago I was hit by a car riding my bike and it damage (broke) to my pelvic bone and clavicle and moved my lower spine over a half inch. I lived with it and the extreme daily pain for 25 years. Being an ex army ranger i was a tough guy and i suffered the pain but over time i got weaker...much much weaker and i gained weight, became a drug addict to pain killers, heroine, meth and cocaine. Then one day I went to the doctor for the men over 50 full physical and got some terrible news. Along with my pain, obesity and drug addiction i was also type 2 diabetic with DANGEROUSLY high blood pressure. Promptly my doctor put me on more meds and said I needed to make an immediate life style change or i was going to die. She said I had done irreversible damage to my once powerful body. When I was 50 i had my first child (AN AWESOME BEAUTIFUL BOY) and I wasn't going to live long enough to see him grow into a man. IT WAS TIME FOR A CHANGE... For the next three weeks I did some intense study and got turned onto a movie called GAME CHANGERS and FORKS OVER KNIVES by a channel called PBN (plain based new) and the WHOLE FOOD PLANT BASED DIET. AND CHANGE I DID...IMMEDIATELY. In just under four months time i lost 30lbs, I began feeling healthier and stronger. I quit doing all the harmful drugs and started working out. My next doctor visit was nothing short of SHOCKING to my doctor and myself. My diagnosis was amazing....My blood pressure was back to normal and i was no longer diabetic. I dropped 40lbs of weight and gained 10lbs of solid muscle mass. Now I work out 5 times a week with the dream of being a 60 year old competitor with a story to tell. Im 53 now and in my book thats one hell of a accomplishment. I have since made it my purpose in life to share this story with everyone I can in hopes of inspiring change not just in those who need it but in everyone. If i can do this, YOU CAN TOO. I will never go back to my bad lifestyle and I WILL watch my son grow up. NOW I CHALLENGE and and ALL of you to do BETTER! ONE WORLD=ONE LOVE

There are 2 primary causes for heart disease. The first being consumption of industrial seed oils. When these compounds mix with cholesterol it causes hardening. The second is artificial sugar of all types. If it’s not fruit or honey then you shouldn’t be eating it. Artificial sweeteners causes oxidation within the arteries when it comes in contact with cholesterol. It does not matter what type of diet you’re eating, if you remove these two compounds it won’t be able to interact with the cholesterol in your body which in turn greatly lowers your chance of having a cardiovascular event. It’s not b/c you’re vegan, keto, carnivore, frutarian or any other term you want to use to describe your diet. It’s simply b/c you removed the elements causing cholesterol to bind in your blood causing it to thicken and harden. For what it’s worth I’m a bio chemist. I haven’t consumed any vegetables in 30 years. My primary source of food is raw milk and raw milk kefir which I make into smoothies with bananas and wild berries. This makes up 75% of my diet. I don’t take any vitamins, supplements, protein shakes or any of that BS. I get everything I need from raw milk and raw milk kefir. It is the only food on the planet for the human species that has every possible vitamin and mineral. No other food can say that. But more importantly it has the beneficial bacteria that is vital to your health and longevity. I’ve been consuming raw milk and raw milk kefir for over 40 years. I haven’t been sick in 30 years.
