I found I had several relatives in the attack in and around New Ulm. Your stories always bring me closer to my family history. One was a little German girl who survived in New Ulm. Another relative was a half French, half Native American trader François LaBatte, who was one of the first ones killed as he was owner of the dry goods store at the lower agency. I had other relatives that had just arrived in Saint Paul from Germany and were housed with several of the escapes of the tragedy, it is said that his wife cared for a horrified little girl who had lost her parents. This group of relatives ended up moving into the areas that had been been attacked.

Terrible to be an innocent family on the frontier being slaughtered for something that was done by unaccountable bureaucrats hundreds of miles away

Let's be honest. They consider it unworthy because it shows how smart, fierce, capable, and resilient white people are. This July, celebrate White History Month.

Carlton you are unbelievable!!! Do you understand how it feels to be native? I get called a savage, Indian, redskin, every single day I go in public, I’m followed around in the gym by loony racists, that think just like you! Just be honest and stop hiding behind saying things like your comment here about talking UP white people, I can read between the lines that you’re REALLY saying that natives are the opposite of all the qualities you listed for white people. Now just be honest for once, after lying to us and taking everything while making up rules and breaking it to suit you… give your real opinion on Natives, don’t just pretend you don’t have one, that’s an attack as well

So it’s a massacre if the Native Americans army conducts defence but it’s a just battle of fair warfare to needlessly murder in the name of taking over land

Thank you very much. I am not standing up for anyone but does anyone know their religious faith. Many ran from the war due to their faith. I am wondering if these men ran from the indians due to their faith teaching them that participating in battle was a sin.
@jesuschristismylord4043
@jesuschristismylord4043 3 месяца назад
They ran because of fear of fighting a battle without real reason to fight, the native Americans are justly fighting for their land, the US army is fighting to take what isn’t theirs, which is a much weaker reason, hence the cowardice
@Carlton_Wilson

@jesuschristismylord4043 They ran because the Indians that were attacking were savages and well known for their sickening atrocities against white people.

I'm confused by all these references to draft dodgers, because the draft didn't start until 1863.

Have you lived through a draft? Everyone knows it's coming. Plenty of men ran long before it starts. And why assume this fella was a Yankee? The draft started on the losing side in 1862.

Just before the outbreak and during, the Army were riding through towns in this area gathering the men and trying to get them to join up, by offering them money. My husband’s great great uncle joined, it is said, because he was so grateful to the United States of America. He left behind a wife and children and died of illness while in training down south. His wife remarried.

A slough is backwater to a larger lake system and is usually swamp-like. Lake Shetek is about 70 miles West of New Ulm, MN - my hometown.
