it's actually "cut my head on a silver cloud" and i always took this to mean like even when he looks toward the positive side of life (looking for the silver lining on the dark cloud) it only hurts him further. great review nonetheless, i think you're a super awesome and underrated youtuber!

I hate to be "that guy", but based on the video I see nothing about drugs whatsoever, even in the lyrics. The video starts and ends with a cut of an athletic older man asleep next to his aging wife. It goes into a dream sequence with increasingly rapid flash backs as he crawls through the woods. At the end, he is greeted by a welcoming crowd, the dream ends, and the wife finds that he is dead. The flashbacks are literally "his life flashing before his eyes". The end slideshow features a beating heart (possibly a heart attack) and the final frames show a baby being born, which means the memories were going new to old. The key line "Not a lot of people left around," is friends from your youth moving away or dying, "walk into the sea" is a euphemism for suicide, obvious to anyone who's read greek myths. Even _Shameless_ did it as a trope. "No love between the sheets" and the rest of the verse means no relationships and the resulting depression; looking down is low confidence or loneliness, but he's staying upbeat. I think the film differs in meaning from the original song, and is just a story based on it.

I think it would be very interesting to hear a conversation with Matthew Shultz included in it to hear what Matthew might have to say. So many details from unasked questions are result of those questions remaining, for the most part, unanswered, for sure. This, observation, could be close on somethings and a little off on others, but only Matthew Shultz could ever say for sure what parts are close and what parts are off. But, over all it is a very interesting monologue description of thoughts and ideas about the song. One thing to always remember about the writer of a song or a poem or book or whatever; is the authors rights. Meaning, the right of the author to keep a certain personal “sanctuary of privacy” concerning the thoughts that brings him to the point of picking up his Guitar or whatever instrument and a pen and a pad of paper to document and express, in this case in music, their experiences that brought them to that “place.” This place. The place of creative thinking, and expression though the art. Personal Exposures, are the authors own choice as to what they want to make public and what they want to keep to themselves. I appreciate hearing all the ideas though that people get while really trying to digest a song. Only true fans of the art do that kind of thing. So I just wanted to say, “interesting”. I guess I should say, I’m not brad Shultz of cage the elephant. I’m the other brad. You’re close though. Hahaha

nice job making this video but you have to remember art is interpretive, i have do disagree with a lot of the points you are making and it feels like you are putting words into their mouths on what the song is about.
