You are unbiased atheist, i am not agree with your points about god but i think you are honest about your claim , i see lots of hindu people call themself atheist and raise the questions about discriminatory rituals of another religion but when it comes to Hinduism they start to defending it with extreme efforts and if and buts.

Actually VV is right here......when an institution makes a *rule* about something then we have to abide by the rules if we have be a part of that institution.

I think what VV was trying to say was that ALL religious attire should be banned from all govt schools but if a privately owned school wants to not follow this rule (like madarsas, hindu schools, convent schools) then it is their choice and the parent has the option to not send their child to that school. Which i think is perfectly reasonable. (And yes i am saying banning all ghunghat, bindi, tilak, cross, hijab, bhagwa gamcha etc). Personally i think their should be freedom to wear whatever we choose but that has many problems too. People from poor families or from religious minorities might feel excluded. People might start flaunting the symbol of their caste like they do on vehicles. Also I don't quite seem to understand how Meghnad is fine with mandating uniforms in schools because it hides economical conditions of the student's family. But is not ok with banning religious symbols in school because he thinks the mentality of assuming "a person of different religion is bad" is to blame. Can't this be said for the former too ? That the mentality of assuming that "a poor person is less capable or is bad" is to blame. There seems some inconsistency in the logic.

Vimoh's question was legit that whether he wanted everything ,like all kind of other attires other then just what is told should be prohibited or not and he denied. Man look there is a school called DAV where I had studied which is based on arya samaj so there everybody irrespective of religion has to chant the morning prayers(mantras) so why put a question on the convent school as I haven't seen any Muslim or a Christian boy/girl been slightly affected with the tradition of the school. It's the education that matters that is given there regarding the curriculum. And if you really don't want any religious outfits ,prayers or other traditions then you can't be selective as no means no. If the sole purpose of uniform is to remove or decrease the possibility of discrimination, then religious symbology should be a part of it, because it does lead to discrimination. Teachers shouldn't be allowed to wear them and students shouldn't be allowed to wear them. No matter what it is. No religion should get a pass, unless it is for practical reasons like Sikhism and long hair. It's a practical necessity to wear a turban. Also, I haven't seen the full video yet but at around 4 minute when you pointed out that the caller had singled out islam, it isn't true. At the very beginning he made it clear that he was taking hijab as an example, but he holds the similar belief for all religions. I love that you are giving atheists like myself a voice in India, but let's be fair please. Your criticism at that point was invalid.

If it is a private school, they can make whatever rules they want, even if it involves supporting a majority religious group. But as Meghnad said, question should be asked, Why??. And the answer should also be direct, “We do not like minority religious groups, because we believe in majoritarianism and we hate the idea of liberalism , we don’t even care about secularism because apparently all we care about is Hindu superiority” I am not a well wisher of any religion per se, but I definitely don’t like hypocrites. What I dislike the most among the right wing citizens is their lack of ownership towards their own beliefs and ideas.

My response to VV....if there were rules for not showcasing any kind of religious identity..then why people wore tilak.... anklets? sindhoor? neck chains which have gods or any such things...? and if hijab was against the rules....then the first responsibility is to go to management and file a legal complaint that they are violating the rules..where in the rules of that college's management did those bhagwa guys got authority to chant and shout JSR? its a clear-cut political stunt to appease one section of the society for vote-bank

Even if Hindua are so concerned about Muslim women getting oppressed 🙄 and are supporting such rule then they shouldn't stop them from education as this could be a way to them to come out of it. They can become independent and live their life according to their wish.

How do you compare a saree with hizab ,saree has nothing to do with Hindu religion,it's just a dress which is not even Indian ,also in saree you are not asked to cover your face ,but for Muslims hizab is a part of Islam ,have you seen women all over the world covering their face in burqa or hizab just because their religion asked them to do so ,in this modern world no girl would love to wear a complete black burqa or hizab just because some Muslim scholars asked to them to do so ,this is definitely oppression, otherwise you won't have seen women in black burqa or hizab ,where as saree in no way represent religion,in today's moder world I have seen Hindu girls in temple wearing modern cloths ,I have seen them performing rituals without saree,also even many foreign girls when they visit India they do wear saree as it is just a dress like any other dress ,but I have never seen a non Muslim girl wearing burqa or hizab because these dresses are irrelevant they are sign of religious oppression,how can someone cover their face just because it is islamic

Just because something is part of religion doesn't make it automatically bad. There are wonderful and horrible things in both hinduism and islam. It's totally fine to selectively ban things. I would totally support banning clothes that is symbol of oppression regardless of religion. Hijab can be banned on the ground of it being oppressive.

It appears that by allowing hijab, we are giving freedom to practice their religion, but case of Iran should also be considered that in future hijab may get enforced on girls and then there will be no choice for them. My friend is teacher in a school in Bihar and most Muslim girls are covered head to toe, only eye can be seen and it became difficult for him to know if they are understanding subject. Surely we don't want to go that path and make all school look like this.

No hijab is not a sign of oppression. You can see even in western country a lot of muslim woman wear hijab because they want to wear it .. Imagine wearing saree is seen as a oppression by a french woman.. Because she never wear a saree in her life and based on her POV it is too much dress in summer season.. As they are comfortable wearing short dress in summer. Did a common indian married woman comfortable of wearing it in summer, If the french woman see it as a oppression . Dress is a cultural thing and a matter of choice. 🙂

Surprisingly you guys did not cover what Karnataka high court told. Religious symbols are allowed in schools as long as those people can prove that its an "essential religious practice". The muslim side failed to prove hijab is an essential religious practice so it was not allowed.
