China had the first paper money back in 1250. However, it went back to copper money in 1600s. Without a good macroeconomy management. the inflation problem in each dynasty caused severe corruptions and rebellions. That's why China changed back to stable metal money and avoid oversea trades during the Ming Dynasty. This also indirectly let China missed the industrial revolution during that critical time.

That’s a cool topic to cover. Whenever you do get back, I have a few video ideas you could find interesting. Would you consider doing video on the spread of written language scripts similar to your coinage video? Another idea is maybe trying a quick experimental video in the 360 degree video format. The last one I’ll bring up is doing a mapping video on Ancient Egypt (3150 BC - 30 BC). Surprisingly enough, I haven’t seen a whole lot of mapping videos on this topic.
@OllieBye
@OllieBye 4 года назад
@@eyuin5716 Your first suggestion is probably the most appealing of the three. Egypt might also be a good idea, but I'm not sure about the 360 degree idea. I've seen other mapping videos that do it, and it looked a bit strange. Anyway, I'll be back in September.

Good video but you know me, I have to throw in my 2 cents (see what I did there?) about Africa. At first I thought this was just coinage but it seems to incorporate other metallic objects and paper money too. With that said you could've shown guenze, koli, and kilindi (all collectively known as Kissi pennies), Okpoho (Maillas) and you could have even included mrammou (Akan gold weights). Shell money is another one too, popular all throughout Africa and Oceania. You could've also include Mesoamerican "Hoe money"

I like your videos but I’m sorry to tell you this one is full of errors and needs many notes to clarify the actual use of the currency in each country as well as its origins. I’m gonna pick the Spanish case as an example: the dollar was invented by the Spanish, so it doesn’t appear like magic in the States. Also Spanish peso was the official currency in USA from 1785 and alongside the dollar from 1792 to 1857. Furthermore, peso was use in the so called “Spanish colonies” (even though in reality they were viceroyalties, a huge difference), but not in Spain, where the Spanish Real was used.

In the 90s. I think they paid in Marks because the inflation was increasing here in Romania - so German Marks were more honest than what currency we had. I mean - it would be pretty bad for the owner to be paid in a value that can easily become meaningless in a month or so.
