I don't blame you for not wanting to talk about Judith Barsi. What happened to her is sickening, no parent should ever hurt their child.

Kate McSpadden I was born years after she died, but it was at the tender age of seven that I found out about what happened to her. Words can't express how much I hate her dad. He ruined her life and then he took it. What kind of person does that to their child?! Ugh... Really makes me wonder if in the scenes where Judy had to cry, or in one bit from her guest appearance on "St. Elsewhere" where she said "I wish Daddy would stop shouting at Mommy", she might've been referencing her own real life. Even if they're all gone, at least she never has to suffer at his hands anymore. I wish she were still alive. Maybe she'd still be an actress. But we can never know because her dad was so horrible that he killed her and obliterated her future. I know it can't happen, but I wish I could punish him and tell him to give her back.

After I learned what had happened to her, I can no longer watch the ending to All Dogs go to Heaven. I felt sick and was crying. The conversation between Anne-Marie and Charlie made it way too painful to watch, knowing that she and her mother sere brutally murdered by a monster who was suppose to love and protect her.

To explain the death of Judith barsi: Jósef (Barsi's father) was an alcoholic and he was jelous about barsi's success for cooperation with Bluth's animated films. He has been chased by the police three times for Drunk driving. It is the reason that he abuses his family including his daughter Judith. in time when alcoholism kept worsing him, Maria (barsi's mother) couldn't stand up against jósef because she feared that Jósef would abuse her in a serious way. (I haven't read all of the story yet, so be ok what i am saying) one night in July 25, 1988, Jósef has given up everything and decides to go in a guilty way, Picking up a handgun and decides to include his family by shooting them. Judith didn't see that coming because she was asleep during at night. Her body including her mother was burned when Jósef used gasoline. And in the end, he went to their garage, and decides to take out his own life before getting caught by the police. Rest in peace Judith, you and your mother didn't deserved that. And for you jósef, you have brought this to yourself.

I remember how shocked I was walking into a store that sold videos (don't rightly recall if it was pre- or post-Blockbuster.. it could have been a retail store) and seeing The Land Before Time part 6 on the shelves. I recall seeing the movie in the theaters growing up (as with Dogs, Nimh, and American Tale, usually at the Dollar Cinema) and liking the movie, but had no clue they made at least 6 of the things.

I don't want to seem awful but what if Judy had reached to adulthood? She's a child actress, had an abusive father, and a mother who wanted to live out her dream as an actress through her daughter. Odds are she would've turned out more like Lindsay Lohan or Miley Cyrus rather than someone as well adjusted as Mara Wilson (Matilda). Not to mention she was very short and young looking for her age which could've gotten her bullied a lot if the hormonal injection didn't work or backfired in some way. Especially if she was a teen. Well all make fun of child actors like Jake Lloyd for being a bad actor or for the bad choices they made like doing drugs or *gasp* having sex. That when they hit the teens they need to either still look cute or be a sexual object in order to still being in the business. Now here’s another example, Michael Jackson, he had an abusive father and look at how many controversies he's been in.

@mckenzieeby6971

+adrian alvarez I never said that her father was justified in killing her. I'm just saying would you still feel bad for Judith if she went the route of Lindsay Lohan, someone who had so much potential that when she start drugs to get rid the stress she was going through along with the fears from her own father. Or Drew Barrymore who also has an abusive father that basically introduced her to drinking and drugs. You'd wag your finger and mock them for doing those things and hate them for wasting themselves when most likely it's them trying to cope with abuse and stress in their lives. I think Judith would have turn to substances had she been alive long enough. She was already displaying signs in her final month of being scared for her life and not having any way of escaping it. She was plucking her eyelashes and the whiskers on her cat, she probably would've gone for her daddy's bottle. At the same time though, we'll never know. She didn't get that far in her life to do what most would've child actors probably do in terms of coping with the constant stress of acting, making her mother proud, no one wanting you once you're older and not growing into someone pretty. That's a problem child actors have. In the end, what if it was Miley Cyrus or any other child actress who was shot by her dad? What if Judith grew up? Would she be well adjusted? Would she be happy? Would you still care that she was murder if she did take drugs? I'm just saying that Judith's life wouldn't be happy even if her mother had divorced her father. Restraining orders or divorces wouldn't stop her father from hurting them. It would just be a minor inconvenience to him.
@mckenzieeby6971
@mckenzieeby6971 9 лет назад
+jacoblgames The thing is she and her mom DID see CPS. The thing is, Judith's mom relied on Judy's child acting as their income. Her mom didn't want them to take Judith away if she wasn't going to be helped as well. Heck, Judith's uncle and half-sister (her dad had another daughter in a previous marriage, looked to be in her 20s) and they told Maria (Judith's mom) to go into hiding with Judith, she couldn't because that would mean Judith would have to give up acting. Also where was child services for Ariel Winters, Lindsay Lohan, Drew Barrymore, and Thora Birch? No where!

Secret of Nihm, Land Before Time and All Dogs Go To Heaven are 3 of my favorite movies. I would love to see what they looked like before they were censored. Part of what I liked about them, even as a kid, was that they were a little darker. I would definitely buy them if he released uncut versions.
@SirBlackReeds

He actually met Cera before seeing the Sharptooth, as a clip used showed. The Land Before Time was the most accurate dinosaur movie of its time. While he by no means dislikes the film, Don Bluth credits The Land Before Time with kickstarting his weaker output, as it was his first major exposure to Executive Meddling. Don reportedly burned some of the deleted footage. Makes you wonder just how dark and disturbing some of the deleted footage was. Charlie's an anti-hero and close to a villain protagonist. Yes, those exist. All Dogs Go To Heaven was originally to be based off of the book of the same name that Don read. I think Martin Short should have been Killer. One cut moment is Charlie flying off and then landing in the water. Thankfully they left this part out since it would have just been too funny. Ironically, some critics questioned whether ADGTH should have been G. Nice to know Don Bluth once again pushed the G rating to its limit. Speaking of which, it's no wonder critics preferred The Little Mermaid. It had a significantly lighter tone and was more feel-good.

I think Bluth should have stuck with Spielberg. Artistically I know it doesn't feel nice having producers make changes to your film, but filmmaking is also a huge collaboration of artists. It's never just one person's accomplishment. The leader of a team (the director in this case) will never have all the right decisions. A leader always needs to take advice from their team. In the end, you have a better movie.Besides, with the exception of Anastasia, Bluth's career did generally go downhill after he parted with Spielberg.
@trippcory
@trippcory 7 лет назад
Spielberg was a legendary film director that had made the highest grossing movies ever made to that point. Bluth had made one critically acclaimed but only modestly successful movie at that point. Is it really any surprise that Spielberg was the one who Universal sided with in all decisions? And well they should have. Spielberg had far more experience with moviemaking than Don, and had they kept those additional scary scenes in the movie, it might have scared off audiences and ticket sales instead of becoming the highest grossing animated movie for one year.

At the same time though, too much interference from the wrong people can ruin a movie, and a perfect example of that is Bluth's 90s films. It may be easy to just blame Don for the poor quality of those films, but Don himself claimed there was a LOT of interference (probably a lot more than when he was with Spielberg) by the time he made Rock-a-Doodle, Thumbelina, A Troll in Central Park, etc. Probably because of how bad All Dogs Go to Heaven did at the box office. (It probably didn't help that he was most likely making too many films at once). And yes, while the films he made with Spielberg are some of his best, other films like The Secret of NIMH and maybe All Dogs also show that Don is at his best when he's given more creative control. It just so happens that Spielberg was the right person he came across who can keep productions in check during the 80s, plus his ideas happened to perfectly match with Don's.
@orangeslash1667
@orangeslash1667 2 года назад
@@disneyfan8719 Secret of Nimh worked because it's adaptation of a book. With All Dogs, even Don himself admitted that he struggled to come up with a good script. A writer told him( You have too many angles, too much Heaven. Get out that out, make it a simple Dog story and it will be fine).

In retrospect, the Land Before Time crushed my heart enough as a kid that I really don't think it Needed those extra scenes of the Sharptooth in there. I saw it for the first time when I was 4 or 5, and It still has a lasting impression on me - Everything down to the coloring to the music to the actual way the Sharptooth was animated - Pretty fucking scary when you're that age. I don't even need to mention Littlefoot's mom dying. That's pretty much how I was introduced to the concept of death in general. However, I really do hope that 10 odd minutes of cut footage resurfaces in full, at some point. There's very limited video, pictures and even info on what they exactly cut out - Even then, what you find is cryptic at best. As someone who grew up loving the movie and was severely affected by some of the scenes in it - For nostalgia purposes - I'd really like to see all that cut footage eventually, and see the movie in the original incarnation that Bluth intended for us. Awesome little documentary about Bluth, by the way.

Unfortunately, I already knew about Judith Barsi's death before I started watching all ten of Don Bluth's movies. This made watching All Dogs Go to Heaven a major struggle for me. I only got to watch it once for that specific purpose, than I never wanted to see it again. In fact, believe it or not, I would rather watch Rock-A-Doodle than All Dogs Go to Heaven. Not only is Edmund cute, but the voice cast in this movie is very interesting. Personally, I think Rock-A-Doodle would be better off all animated with no live action whatsoever. But no matter if All Dos Go to Heaven is unbearable or if Rock-A-Doodle is more preferred for me, it does not change the fact that The Land Before Time is my #1 favorite animated movie not made by Disney.

As I said in Animat's last video, all three of Don Bluth's good movies got to be on my top 10 favorite Non-Disney Animated Movies. In fact, his last good film The Land Before Time actually is my #1 favorite Non-Disney animated movie of all time. You see, back in my childhood, I was very fond of dinosaurs. I loved to read dinosaur books, visit dinosaur museums, draw dinosaur pictures, and I especially loved to watch dinosaur movies. Therefore, The Land Before Time sequels were among my favorite videos to watch in my childhood. As my love of those sequels grew, they made me able to enjoy the first movie as well. Eventually, as I heard about Don Bluth being The Land Before Time's creator more often, I got more curious to find out who Don Bluth was. So, while I was in college, I decided to watch all ten of Don Bluth's movies in the order of their release, as well as his other animation projects. What this means is, the Land Before Time sequels brought me from loving those videos, to liking the first movie as well, to wanting to know more about Don Bluth, to watching all of his movies, to where I am now, seeing Don Bluth as tied with Walt Disney as the greatest animator to ever work in movies.

Additionally (because RU-vid has a character limit still, it seems), Walt Disney found the tale of Chanticleer and Reynard too hard to adapt. Also, he and his associates found humans easier to animate. It's actually up to speculation whether Bluth himself or some executive wanted the live-action/animated thing. Chanticleer wasn't originally going to be an Elvis expy, but as the story advanced, after Glen Campbell was brought on, Chanticleer became the Elvis expy seen in the final product. Speaking of Glen, this film really damaged his career. He was made fun of by his fans and he vowed never to appear in film again. Rock-a-Doodle is also Sorrell Booke's (Boss Hogg) final feature film role. Funny thing, Rock-a-Doodle was competing with Beauty and The Beast as well as Fievel Goes West because it was originally released in the UK, for whatever reason. Goldie was actually inspired by Jessica Rabbit, but there may have been influence from Princess Daphne. Her and Chanticleer were going to have more dialogue with each other that included a number of double entendres. Eddie Deezen (Snipes) has never seen this film. He saw the reviews and was all "fuck it I ain't watching this shit." Bluth had to change some potentially scary aspects, such as giving the Grand Duke "Lucky Charm breath" and cutting out a scene of him eating a skunk in a pie. They also made him change wine into "soda" to avoid a PG rating. Incidentally, the Skunk Pie sequence was cut not because the idea of an evil giant owl threatening to eat a live baby skunk in a pie is inherently scary in itself (even though it is). It was cut because of a note Bluth's studio received from the preview audience. The scene was too scary and had to be cut because "most cases of child abuse happen in the kitchen, and involve baking instruments". Considering that the star of his previous film had just recently been murdered by her father, you can understand why he was so quick to cut it. Nostalgia Critic didn't say it best because he, like many others, assumes that Don Bluth had full control over the IPs. As it turns out, Don had little say in what the final product would end up like.

Have you ever noticed Anne Marie from All Dogs Go to Heaven looks pretty similar of Disney's Snow White?
@SaraHouck461
@SaraHouck461 9 лет назад
Well...Don Bluth was heavily influenced into getting into animation from seeing Snow White in the theaters when he was four as mentioned in the first part of this lookback, so it's safe to say he decided to incorporate some elements from that film into his animation.

My thoughts on these movies Land Before Time - Easily one of Don Bluth’s best animated films of all time and one of my very favourite animated movies, since I am fascinated with dinosaurs. All Dogs Go To Heaven - Another Great classic, loved how they casted Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise as Charlie and Itchy, great use of heavy themes and how the concept of hell was used in an appropriate context to acclimatise children into understanding how harsh the world can be. Rock A Doodle - One of my least favourite of the Don Bluth bunch for its child-like tone and a bland premise. This was where his work began to take a downward spiral.

The full uncut version of All dogs movie was released internationally (at least the spanish one was longer than the one in amazon), i have a VHS version where the car runs over Charlie , after an “oh shit” moment when he realises he’s done, you can literally see the corpse flying in the air, the hell dream have scenes of demons torture and the fire of hell , there is an extra scene at the end. Maybe the “only copy” that he got is the only english language copy of the full movie reel

Pauses vid at 3:03 What do you mean the opening of Land Before Time had no point in the movie!? The narration alone set first the time period, "before the Mammoth and the Mastadon in the time of the Dinosaurs." then the conflict, "the leaf eaters vs the meat eaters" and finally the reason for the migration to the Great Valley. "the mighty beasts who appeared to rule the Earth were in truth ruled by the leaf... and the leaves had begun to die." Plus showing the wide variety of dinosaurs and the idea that they only traveled with their own herds was kind of a major subplot to the movie. Sorry to complain, your video is awesome, I just really really love Land Before Time. Anyway back to the video now.

I wonder if that’s why the main child character in Rock-a-Doodle is a boy named Edmund instead of a girl. I have a feeling the part of Edmund was going to be a girl and played by Judith Barsi, but following her tragic death, the character was rewritten into a boy. i don't really get why NC holds ADGTH to be a much better movie than Anastasia, probably the only good Bluth production released in the 90s. i mean, at least Anastasia had a coherent narrative and enjoyable songs, not to mention some top-notch animation that did not have to be concealed in the dark half the time...
