CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bard (Luke Evans) protects his children and the village of Dale, using a wagon to defeat a massive, hideous orc.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Peter Jackson takes cues from the appendices of The Lord of the Rings to expand New Line Cinema's Hobbit adaptation with this third film completing the epic tale of Bilbo Baggins, as played by Martin Freeman. The story opens to find the vengeful dragon Smaug (voice of Benedict Cumberbatch) decimating the peaceful hamlet of Laketown as Bilbo, Thorin (Richard Armitage) and the rest of the dwarves lay claim to the Lonely Mountain. But their celebration is short-lived as Thorin grows obsessed with finding the Arkenstone. Meanwhile, Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Saruman (Christopher Lee) battle the Nazgul in an attempt to free Gandalf (Ian McKellen), and get some unexpected help from eccentric wizard Radagast (Sylvester McCoy). Unfortunately for all involved the struggle has only just begun, because as armies of dwarves, elves, orcs, humans and goblins converge at the base of the Lonely Mountain, the fight for the future of Middle Earth begins.

Career day at the kids school Bain: My dad is a bonafide badass. He slew a dragon, became king, and rode a wagon into a terribly animated troll/ogre.

Not only is he a good king/leader, but Bard’s an amazing dad. I love that everyone who could fight did including women! Nice to know the women of the Lake/Dale are willing to fight to defend themselves & their loved ones!

I think that seeing this, how Bain went back to get the arrow and get it to Bard, how Bard rallied everyone to skip over anger/revenge and go to taking care of shelter/one another, and seeing what all these Lakemen (esp. Bard) were willing to do, is why Gandalf has the hope for humanity/Middle Earth that he has in FOTR. This is why he thinks humanity is worth fighting for, why he thinks someone like Aragorn can be a good man and a good king- he's seen it before, in Bard.

How could the LoTR movies feel more realistic than the Hobbit. The effects, the CGI, and even the dialogue seem to have gone down hill in the prequels

I think it’s because The Hobbit is a childrens book with less material so they made it less grounded to fit the tone.

I know this comment is old but figured I'd reply anyways. The LoTR movies used a lot more practical effects than this trilogy, so it feels more real partially because it *is* more real.
