You around 33:45 "F the Elves! They're not helping the dwarves! Elves ain't shit! Losers, cowards!" I was CACKLING knowing what was about to happen. lol It's all fun!
When you stopped the video and started talking shit about the elves then pressed play and was like i take it back😂😂😂 the whole time you started talking trash i was like just wait bro lol. 😂😂😂 that was great.
I always felt like neither Thranduil or Thorin got fully fair shakes but to understand their motivations you have to know more about their histories. While it's not book canon, the basis in this movie is that the necklace of white gems had actually been commissioned to be made for Thranduil's wife and Legolas's mother but then the dwarves kept it and she never got to wear them before she died. So that just deepened Thranduil's resentment toward the dwarves of Erebor that much more. Book canon, Thranduil was also actually at the battle of the Last Alliance that was shown at the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring and his father, Oropher, as well as two thirds of the Mirkwood elves were killed there, which was part of what made Thranduil so isolationist and so cautious and careful on where and how he committed his forces. Poor Thorin never really stood a chance against the dragon sickness. In theory, because his grandfather wore the the last Dwarf Ring of Power for so long, it's power was believed to have seeped into their bloodline. While the seven rings didn't turn the dwarves into Wraiths like the rings did to the men to create the Nazgul, it made the dwarves even MORE greedy and suspicious than they normally were. Combine that plus the dragon sickness that had seeped into the gold in the mountain from Smaug plus Thorin's desperation to see his people return to prosperity from relative poverty, it created a perfect storm and he dropped into the sickness like a rock. :/ But you're the only reactor I've watched so far that's picked up on how Thorin is basically at war with himself and how beautifully Richard Armitage portrayed him with the shifting back and forth between his real self and his sickness self, ie how when Thorin said "get out, before i kill you" which was more the real Thorin coming out and being terrified of what he might do even to his cousin and best friend. I love that you picked up on that. Great reaction! I remember the first time I watched this movie. I wasn't able to actually finish it again for a long time after that because Thorin, Fili and Kili's deaths were so traumatizing. I'd read the book, of course, so I knew all three of them died but it's maybe a sentence or two for Fili and Kili noting that they died defending Thorin and then Thorin dies later from his wounds after his conversation with Bilbo. But to actually see it acted so beautifully on screen after you get to know them and get attached was just absolutely heartbreaking. Its major character deaths that really rip your heart out and stomp on it, but canonically the movies couldn't have let them live.
Tolkien's five armies were: Elves; Men; Dwarves; goblins; and the wild wolves (Wargs). Some readers count the goblins and wargs as one army and consider the Eagles to be the fifth one. In the film, the five armies are: Elves; Men; Dwarves: the Orcs from Dol Guldur; and the Gundabad Orcs. Bard is built up more in the films. Tolkien didn't even introduce the character until Smaug attacks Lake-town. Thorin and Company do not sneak into the city; they encounter guards at the bridge that take them directly to the Master of Lake-town. Thranduil's reference to Strider confirms the time compression in Jackson's LotR trilogy. Aragorn would have been 10 years old at the time of the Battle of Five Armies in Tolkien's legendarium. J.R.R. Tolkien painted all of the illustrations in the original book of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. One of his sons drew the maps in LotR.
Definitely one of my favourite reactions to The Hobbit Trilogy! I love how invested you were with Kili and Tauriel! I absolutely love them too and was devastated by the end. At least there's always fanfiction ;)
Yea, but its already a "fanfiction" seeing as Tuariel, Legolas, and the entire romance parts in these movies NEVER existed in the book. I honestly found it cheapening the story because if you read the book you realize the only reasons they added it was for sex appeal, marketing, and filler so they could making 3 money making movies instead of the 1 (maybe 2) it wouldve taken to tell the story.
That Mithril Chainmail/Shirt Thorin gave Bilbo was also the same one Frodo wore during Journey to Mordor. You could see it in the Fellowship of the Ring and in the Return of the King where the Mouth of Sauron threw it back to Gandalf. In the Fellowship of the Ring, old Bilbo told Gandalf that he wanted to see mountains again, he basically meant the Lonely Mountain. Many mentioned this before but Balin was the same dwarf whose coffin was in Moria that Gimli ran into and Ori was the same dwarf who was holding the book that Gandalf was reading aloud just shortly before Pippin sent that corpse crashing down the hole and alert the giblins. This whole journey of Bilbo is why Gandalf was labelled "the Disturber of Peace" by the hobbits in the Shire as mentioned in the Fellowship of the Ring as they are very homely people. They like peace and not adventurous at all, so when Bilbo went running out of his hobbit hole for the journey, he was the weird one. PS. Can you imagine how broken Fili and Kili's mother would be after someone informed her of the news? She had already lost her Grandfather Thror. Her dad went missing (and dead). Her brothers, Thorin and Frerin (another brother not mentioned in the movies) were killed. She lost her husband when her sons were still young. Then both of her boys were dead as well.
Elves are born as babies and grow up as children, just like all the other races, just a little slower. Their aging doesn't slow down to almost nothing until they reach full adulthood. So Elf children are a thing; they don't just pop into existence fully grown or anything like that. But they are not a very prolific race, reproductively speaking. Only in the Blessed Realm do they have a lot of children, and when the world is dark like now, most of them choose to have none. That's why the youngest Elves we know of at this time (Legolas, Tauriel, and Arwen and her brothers) are hundreds or even thousands of years old. It's also part of the reason the Elves are a dying race within Middle-earth. Even immortal as they are, they can be killed, and they often are. The world has been dark, and therefore there have been no children outside the Blessed Realm, for so long that they are failing to keep up with the death rate, despite the fact that they do not die of old age or illness. So Thranduil's seeming cowardice actually does have some reason behind it, as Elves who die in battle are unlikely ever to be replaced by new generations, which means every battle they participate in hastens the end of the race as a whole. Of course that only makes his willingness to go to war for riches all the more irrational. 🙄
Elves don't generally have many children and near the end of the Third Age many of the Eldar are leaving Middle-earth (the Wood-elves are mostly content to remain and diminish). When Elves die their souls (or fëa) depart their body and usually go to the Halls of Mandos in Valinor (where the Valar--the gods of Arda--dwell). In Valinor they may, in time, be given new bodies identical to the adult bodies they had before.
The answer to which armour is better depends entirely on fighting style. On an individual level, like what we saw when Thranduil was by himself, there was a lot of spinning, swords keeping the enemy at bay, a lot of dance like movements. the armour would therefore have to b durable but light so as to not restrict the movement, not wear the fighter out quickly and allow for faster attacks. Compare it to when the dwarves fight. They prefer to get right in their opponent's face. They swing heavier weapons which do a lot more damage, like the double headed axes and the big warhammers. But they can't swing them quickly, despite their strength, as they still have to account for the physics of the swing. Therefore their armour need to be a lot heavier and thicker to absorb the blows from their enemies that inevitably land while they are preparing for the next attack. You also have to take into account of the fighting style of the army as a whole. Elves will try to take as many of their foe out from a distance as possible, before using elongated weapons that extend their reach, like the long swords and spears. Dwarves tend to form a phalanx to provide maximum protection for those with halberds behind, and for that they need solid shields that can form the tortoise like layers of protection, which come down only when the enemy is behind them as well. I could go on but no one will read this if it get too long. :P I have to admit I was chuckling to myself when you were speaking your peace about the elves staying out of the fight, knowing what was coming.
The reason this place is important is the kingdom of angmar (the Nazgûl who stabbed Frodo was the witch king of angmar). It’s basically like the heart of evil and if it’s risen again most likely Sauron would’ve won. After this leading to the destruction of the ring several more attempts were made to grab Erebor to raise Angmar and the humans and dwarves fought together and kept them at bay each time
I’ve got a complicated opinion regarding this trilogy but I’m so so glad you enjoyed it. Richard/Thorin’s acting really is something else in this one and the action sequences are so much fun to watch
Great and very fun reaction of yours as usual, don't forget please the most honorable deaths in the trilogy, Boromir and Théoden, which were not only beautifully written and filmed but also paramount in the progression of the other important characters' arcs.
Elves do seem to stop aging at some point, think of around Elrond and Galadriels appearance. But elves can die, if they do they come back in the undying lands, Valinor. When Valinor was on middle earth then the elves technically could return to middle earth, once Valinor was separated then the elves die and stay there
So you asked in the first hobbit film why Gandalf cared about Thorin's quest. Gandalf basically explained it...the strategic importance of where the Lonely Mountain is. If Sauron's forces, Azog, had taken the mountain, then Sauron could've attacked on three fronts during The Lord of The Rings and they would've been unable to defend against Sauron. Gandalf wanted to deny the mountain from Sauron.
Not to mention while Gondor and Rohan fought at Minas Tirith during the Return of the King. Gimli said "I wish could muster a legion of dwarves" and Legolas replied "I fear war marches upon their own lands"...Sauron actually sent an army to attack the Erebor at the same time as the Battle for Minas Tirith (Pelanor Field's).. Dain's son and Bard's grandson fought them off. That is why the dwarves couldnt come to help in the South.
A bit of backstory on the interaction between elves and dwarves. The elves were created directly by "God". First. The dwarves were not. They were created by one of "angels". Without God's knowledge or permission or some such. It happened wayyyyy earlier than these movies in another age. I think that is part of the rift between the dwarves and elves. They know they were created first before dwarves or men so it goes to their heads in some cases. 😄 Also orcs are just elves twisted by the dark powers of Saurons boss Melkor. Just to toss that out there.....OK, I need to stop. LoL 😅 (I'm sure I'm just barely touching on the subject of this aspect of the interplay between the races. I know it could be explained with much more detail as it's a rather complicated story and literally goes back to illuvitar/God creating the whole damn universe, lol)
What created the gap between the two races?...it is when the dwarves killed an elf high king because of their greed. Edit: Before that they were in good terms(not all), trading ores, minerals, gems, treasures etc. Remember the gate of moria the runes were written in elvish characters and the password is in elven tongue...until when a high king of the elves (i forgot the name nor the race where he belonged to) made a request and give them, the dwarves, an item for them to forge into something bracelet or crown i think (really sorry i can't recall it) after the dwarves finished craft they were driven by their greed because it was soo beautifully made and thus drove them in killin the high king of the elves.
The five armies confused me too at first. It’s two orc armies (that’s the part I didn’t realize they counted as two), the dwarves, elves and humans. Oh and several of the dwarves here are the ones who Gimli mourned in Moria. Balin being one of them, the very very young looking dwarf another and I believe a third I can’t recall which
Not two orc armies. From what I remembered from the book (it's been a while since I read it), the five armies are: Humans, Elves, Dwarves vs Orcs AND Goblins.
@@nitrokidin the books, the goblins( or orcs, they use both names interchangingly) of the misty mountains team up with the wargs after the death of the goblin king. They are lead by bolg, son of azog( who really is dead in the book) . So its elves men and dwarves against the wargs and orcs( well radagast shows up with beorn and the eagles in the book as well), and beorn siglehandedly smashes trough bolgs personal guard, ( who mortally wounded Thorin, and killed fili and kili while they defended his body) and kills bolg.
If you want to know “how elves work” read the Silmarillion. So much elf backstory. It’s funny I didn’t like these movies (I love a four hour fan cut that to me works better). But I love how much you love this movie.
Elves armor and weapons are cool, but the dwarven arsenal design is my favorite. If you have seen the artbook (the movie concept art by Weta Studios), the dwarven armor designs are intricate. The ornaments and whatnot are phenomenal 🔥🔥🔥
Im glad you enjoyed... it gets a hard wrap because its quite different from the book but i think its ok (the whole hobbit is hardly as big as just the fellowship so turning it into a trilogy was always gona be a tough ask) ... tauriel is 💯 made up not in the book and legolas isnt in the hobbit either... but i really like the elf dwarf love story... not sure if i like legolas being a bit of a douche in the hobbit.. but good orlando got a big payday from it as he got paid relative peanuts from the og trilogy being an amateur actor at the time
Just wanted to say THANKS..... this was one of the funnest reactions iv watched........... PS you aint SHIT for that "No Consent" line when she kissed him at the end lmao
Sadly fili and kili are thorins only relatives (and after he died if he never had children would be next in line) but alas the entire line of dorin is ended
Not really, maybe the direct line but the line of During continues through Thorin's second-cousin Dain II and his third-cousin Gloin along with his son Gimli
Each to their own for this movie, i guess. Rewatching it after 5years during movie binging feels different compared to when i saw it in premiere week. I swear i fell asleep halfway through the movie in the theatre 😂 i had never done that before 😂😂 glad you enjoyed it !
I've enjoyed these stories through the books at least seven times over the years since 1968. I was overjoyed when our technology caught up to the books. I've loved the movies in part because of their relationship to the books, but also in their own right as magnificent movie making! The so-called purists are nothing but a pain in the a**. They can't enjoy a piece of cinematic art for its self, but compare it to something, that is ,in the end, unrecreatible. They're missing out.
Real rap tho, all dwarves wanna do is mine some ish and bash some orc heads lol simple as. They got that big brain for all of their engineering marvels
This trilogy and Fantastic Beasts are both proof that you shouldn’t listen to bitter old fans who want to block you from all the new content. They’re just so insecure in themselves and afraid that you’ll love what they hate. Pathetic people like that shouldn’t be acknowledged. Remember that when you consider watching Rings of Power. Love your reactions man 🙌
Sorry but this movie is a snuff film..turning one book into 3 movies is an absolute sellout...in the books the dwarves didnt hide in the Lonely Mountain like total frauds ...the thirteen took the field like absolute ballers not the cowards they were in the movie just stop it..
