$220 for a piece of junk plastic Bugout? Benchmade is getting nutz. They need a reality check and would sell more if they would charge fairly. Keep it!
Say what you will about the Ozark Trail, but I did my Cardboard Slayer live stream and it took 7 hours of nonstop cutting to wear the edge out. D2 lasts 4 hours about like clockwork when I do this. On a mirrored 17° edge it took 8 hours to wear out JUST enough to call it. One of my guys Arkansas EDC batoned one into the side of a chunk of hickory and the lock stood up to it, he snapped it to check the grain out and that grain was the perfect color, he said it was a very fine powdery grain.
The Walmart "orange knife bad' tool is the best disposable knife ever made. It is not just a 'beater' knife, but it is the best tool for jobs where there is a high risk of losing or breaking the knife. Buy a dozen or buy a gross of these knives if you are a company that needs to supply a solid tool for their employees. Not everyone is buying a knife (or even an automobile) just as a status symbol.
Yeah, there are people who prefer to have that disposable option and there are others who strongly oppose the disposable nature of our current society.
So some people have done cut tests with it and it held an edge longer than other known D2 knives. 🤷🏻♂️. I bought five of them just to see and they all feel exactly the same so the QC isn't bad. The pivot is a really small diameter. The bearings are cheap but they work. It appears to have a black oxide coating and not just a paint coating. For me it's a knife to gift to people to introduce them into the knife world with something that will hold an edge longer.
@@sgsheff im starting to get annoyed :) ive been to my local walmart 5 times in the last 10 days since ive learned of this knife and ive never seen it and i dont see any empty hooks with a $9.97 price tag. I check the isles with flashlights/camping gear all the way up to the gun counter and no luck :( My local walmart is just under a mile away and am there regularly and never noticed it there before the viral hype videos either.
@@lt200420 Yeah it's annoying when everyone's like oh I need five of these right now... And you can't get one. Pro tip though, I noticed this at the Walmarts in my area. These knives aren't on a hook in an isle. You have to ask the person at the gun counter. They're keeping them under there (if they have them in stock). But I finally got one, it was the last they had and it was the display knife, but it wasn't even being displayed... Weird. It was just hidden under their locked counter. Good luck.
German here. Böker had to postpone their summer festival due to the events in Solingen. All had been prepared but then it didn’t seem appropriate any more. Tragic, everything about it.
I lived in Hesse for 12 years. Loved living in Germany, but that was *before* Merkel ruined the entire country. As for knife prices, well it depends on what you want it to do. For EDC when all I do is open boxes? $10 D2 is fine. For wandering into the woods? Oh hell no. a Demko Freereign & Boker Soligen as my mains with a custom Buck 110 as a backup - all of them in Magnacut. Magnacut is what I prefer.
Funny how people complain about lack of American made products and the cost regularly and then buy cheap china rip off knives from Walmart. (Face palm)
Yea I will stay the heck away from any Walmart tools or knives they are literal garbage, but once cry once get what you know will last and take care of it
I shit my pants once, no one posted about it which is kinda weird because I stayed at work the whole 12 hours and I shat them the first 25 mins I was at work.
If ozark trail can make that…it is a decent knife. I bought two. I want other companies to make a $25 knife with same materials but just better quality control and consistency. It will be a banger of a knife.
I know it’s not exactly the same, but the CJRB pyrite lite is a phenomenal $20-30 knife. Material-wise it’s about the same, obviously swapping D2 for ar-rpm9 and a wharnie/sheepsfoot blade shape rather than drop point, but the thing is amazing. It’s my go to beater knife and it has held up awesome over the past 6ish months
The 'who do I want to support' argument is nonsense. I want to support the company that's bringing me great knives at a great value. I support them by buying the superlative knives that they produce at a reasonable price. If I want to support a charity, there are many others ahead of knife making companies.
Ordered one of the last Lulus on the amazon store front and it just arrived in the mail yesterday! Imho it's well worth the money for the design and materials. Its quintessentially American and feels like a tool that your dad or grand pa woulda had in their kit. Y'all clearly put an insane amount of effort into the ergo!!!
I think the Ozark Grail is definitely the knife to beat at the bottom. It seems like it has relatively good QC for its price and it looks like it actually has D2 steel and holds an edge for a while after testing. Not too much to complain about for $10 and for something you can just walk into a store to buy. I feel like it is going to be a great starter knife for those who want a cheap, but good knife to use as a tool that they won't have to worry about much. It's definitely going to be my go-to recommendation for (non-knife) people who ask me for a budget and lightweight knife!
My heart just skipped a beat when you posted the comment by eriiktaylor about a budget Lulu in 14c28n. Please, please, please. It's not the budget part I'm overly concerned about. I'm a woodcarver (and bushcrater) and I prefer this steel for carving, especially in a scandi grind although a lower price would be nice. As a suggestion, you might also consider down the road, creating a scandi folder. I'm LOVING my Helle Raud M. And it looks nothing like a Walmart knife. ;)
Agree, would be very tempted to jump on a LuLu with 14c28n. I have been eyeing a Kizer Deckhand but I would hold off if I found out the LuLu had a budget option.
I own benchmade, QSP, and Civivi knives that I carry daily. I bought one of the Ozark trail knives BECAUSE it's cheap. I threw it in my glove box, and will likely buy another for a tackle box knife. I don't expect the quality or durability I get from more expensive knives, but if a Civivi breaks, I'm going to be far more upset than if my $10 DropOut does.
A better solution to the tragedy in Germany would be to close the borders and have better law enforcement rather than punish law-abiding citizens by restricting the tools they use...
Knives are absolutely on a race to the bottom, much like any industry that China is overwhelming with its immense manufacturing capacity. MC sounds like a broken record these days like “ for HOW MUCH?! I can’t believe it!!!” Amazon is not helping since most non-knife people just look at the pics and the price. Also ngl, that AI song at the end was better written and produced than most real pop songs today! 😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I just received my lander 1 in the mail from the knife day sale and it instantly became my daily carry knife! I couldn’t be happier! I’m am very impatiently waiting on my lander 4 to ship in January!
I have an idea! A knife or machete made from the same blades that are on the RX-9 missiles. Can anyone figure out those manufacturing channels? LOLOLOLOLO Knafs, make it happen. OLOLOLL
Okay, I'll say it. Is the Ozark overly cheap? Or are we seeing there's a lot of over inflation in the knife world? I own a Bugout but there's just no justifying that $180 pricetag anymore.
Except for steel tariffs and Portland being a horrible place to manufacture competitively anymore, and the fact that benchmade doesn’t have a cheap Chinese line to fall back on for easy revenue. There are many factors that people, especially knife RU-vidrs, don’t understand or care to bring up if they do.
Heat treat is a huge issue in the knife industry in my opinion. Very few brands seem to have steel that performs like it should. I can say the lander I have in D2 holds up well. But Spyderco kind of rocks it in that department all day.
I appreciate that the Canadian distributors/stores pricing is literally the usd price converted to CAD. I hope the distributors will carry more spare parts and upgraded parts such as the unlocked composites scales and Lynch NW pocket clips for lander 2 and 3. If they aren't I will have to wait and bundle an order from Utah central.
Hello Y'all, naturally you know that the Saturn V is the biggest rocket ever sent into space!!! Hope all's well with everyone/thing! Keep up the good work and vids. Be safe and take care, "God Bless", sincerely, Randy. 😇🙏👊
My Ozark hotness was carried for a bit but its become a bag knife. Doesnt hold edge super long but still for $10 is insnae. Its been swapped out for the Kershaw steepe
Hi there! Thanks very much for showing my video at the end of this episode. Really appreciate that and it makes me happy that you like it. ❤ Thanks for all your commitment. I’m looking forward to meeting you next weekend in Hamburg at Maxi’s charity event. Carsten
I've been away from the RU-vid knife community for a while... particularly since you two left Blade HQ... Now I'm back and I just so happened to stumble across this video!! Seeing you two back together makes a grown man smile!! Also, without hesitation I just bought the Lander 1 to support you guys!! God bless!! 👍🏻
I tell you what.....even with all the hype I was still impressed with the knife! The action is perfect, steel seems to be heat treated fairly well, it don't feel like a cheap $10 knife, it came Sharpe and in 1min I was able to make it scary Sharpe, even wacking the spine of mine the lock held, shape is perfect for a ecd, etc. The hype it's real and will deff be looking to pick up a couple more just to have. as someone who uses, abuses, sharpens, breaks and or loses my knives..... This is perfect for me! Just need more for when I do run out of blade to sharpen, break it being dumb or loose it.
Counter argument for the cheap feel of the plastic, the FRN on the Bugout feels super cheap and flexes a lot too. While it might be a "better plastic", is it 100 dollars plus better? Be curious to see one opened up.
"Yeah, I lost my ___________knife while at work yesterday. " The degree of impact on your head and wallet will depend a lot on what's in the space. (Speaking from experience here)
The only things standing between me and a Lulu are my wife and poverty! I think it's actually a fantastic deal on a very well made knife. Bark River would have marked it up an extra hundred. It's not cheap, but the value is super high and it's affordable as a literal pass-down-to-you-grandson level of quality heirloom knife.
I have been a big supporter of Knafs since day one love the product! Question; I would love to own a LULU but I don’t need a bulletproof steel that can withstand the jungle or the rust protection of working on a crab boat! I wonder if other people may feel the same way and want to support the LULU in a lesser steel? A kick starter campaign, perhaps or a just a poll to see how much interest there might be? Keep up the good work guys!
I need you guys to come to Jacksonville, Florida. I need one of those knife shows to come to Jacksonville Florida so I can come see you guys and buy something from you guys and buy something from other knife makers.
When something looks good to be true, it usually is. Rather than a "watershed momment" we are seeing rampant Dumping from Ozark, and looking the way the chinese economy is going... this deal wont be around this time by next year 😅
I think there is something to be said about a $10 dollar knife and the companies that produce them... Sure it's great for the consumers, but I think it would be interesting to see the work environment between a chinese oem like Ozark vs Kizer/We and then also compared to American Manufacturing... I worry about the human rights element of companies that sell knives for $10 dollars. I have a feeling the work environment for Kizer/We Employees is much better and safer than knives produced by Ozark. I would have a difficult time supporting Ozark purely based on my assumption about how they value/treat their employees/makers.
Iv bought about 15 ozark tail knives already. Iv gone to all the Walmarts nearby, lol. I give them away after a day or 2 of carrying them. Every one I open I oil, tighten the screws and pivot to center the blade, and last I strop them. Makes it a $20 knife.
27:30 It's also a great way to make stunt or training versions of your knives, maybe print them in flexible TPU, paint it and it's perfect for stunt use in a movie or martial arts training.
The LULU are FANTASTIC....and as a owner of a M1 caper pro backpacker and the F.C 3.5 in day glo g10!!! Seriously... from finishing the knife to the sheaths!!!!! Bang for your buck!!! Given same materials!!!!! Idk if you can get better then white river knives!!!i mean family ran business!!!! Hard to NOT want to support that!!!!... you should do a lulu V2 Maybe a slight longer slight thinner!!!!!! I MISS THE ZAC,KURT,JAMIE , KYLE, MAIN MAN TREVOR THE OLD CREW LOL....
GIVE ME 2014 -2019 ZT SAME WITH BENCHMADE!! EXEPT!!i wouldn't mind a copper and battlewash magnacut bailout!!!! Hinderer protech leatherman Gerber t.j swartz buck mcnees SPARTAN TKELL BLESS KNIVES EDGY AMERICAN BLADES THESE ARE A FEW OF MY " FAVORITES"
I'm gonna put my 2 cents in even tho it means very little....and i am a proud benchmade owner!!!!i think i have 5 now!!!... but as far as ALL cross bar lock knives.....and I'm only speaking for me...... if you actually break it down!!!! There all fine..... UNTIL THERE NOT!meaning.... with cross bar locks across the board.... 1. They are not made to be fidgeted with.. it prematurely wears all the moving parts down much faster.... break 1 single spring and it renders the knife basically all but useless... unless u can find something small and round that'll fit behind the omega bar acting like a normal spring!!! There really not good locks at all!!!! At least to me.. OHHH and there some of the most difficult to service and work on as well!!!! Idk even why i have so many in my collection... cross bar lock knives that is!!!!I CAN'T WAIT FOR MY TRISTACHE coming soon ish🙏🙏🙏from TRISTATE EDC !!!P.S PASSES THE FINGER TEST WITH FLYING COLORS!! #DSKFS #BEUP
One of my oldest friends just gave me one of these Wal-Mart Holy Grail knives - & he knows my last 3 knives that I purchased were all in the $300 range - but I'm actually very impressed with it so far. I wish it wasn't hollow ground but that and the plastic handle scales are my only gripes. The Axis style lock is actually quite smooth. I'm liking it!!!
Yall need to do a review on the Swiss tech knives from Walmart , $30 for a spectacular knife With ceramic bearings and a unbelievable packaging and a back story on the company it’s one of my edc knives.
Thanks guys. Great video. I have 2 of these. Excellent cheap but also potentially long use knife. Perfect for agrabngo bags, truck glove box, and gifts too!!
Why would you charge $180 for a knife that can be sold for $10. Or why would you sell for $10 something as good as one that costs $180. Makes me wonder!
What you're showing me is not how good this Ozark knife is but rather how overpriced Benchmade knives are. Just wait until the next Ozark's hit the shelves with more improvements, Benchmade better rethink their pricing!
Bought it out of curiosity. Put a razor edge on it. It performs just like D2 should. The lock has held up to all normal use and hours of flipping. I don't mind the static appearance as it's a perfect Halloween carry. Cheers boys!
I am much more likely to carry this Ozark Grail knife that many others I own. Great action, light weight, inexpensive. I am past the days when I will spend big to get a special knife. The Benchmade bugout is way overpriced.
I no longer have any more room in my shoebox with gas station knives because my ex and that's why she's my ex sold the whole box for $10 Benchmade be weary it can be done $1.00 Benchmade knives😅😂 knives
I’ve never seen two dudes shill so hard for an industry that repeatedly ignores the requests of his customer base, and continues to upsell and overcharge. This is more than a quality budget knife, this is a wake up call to the industry.
How the hell is that going to affect knife laws? This isn't everyone's doing. This was one crazy person doing something evil. You don't take away everyone keys for one drunk driver on the road.
My goodness you're changing the knife game again with this show. Also, I need to know what Jaime thinks of the Lander 2. He loved the Benchmade Bugout for so long ,so I want to know his thoughts.
as a channel that sez the word community as much as they say knife its concerning that what shown to your face a fact thats so well-known and talked about such as over pricing. the fact that companies are so obviously just add 1 to 3 hundred on top of what's considered a fair profit in any other type of manufacturing you cling to the word salad hype which is so obviously telling sumone the tiny plastic on the side of a pocket knife is worth the extra hard earned cash in this economy and double down like even if a company sent replacement plastic to screw onto ur 20 dollar pocket knife everyone can just pretend there holding a product in which the word premium can be used so they can open Amazon boxes while telling someone about edge retention and pretend this 300 buck letter open is a tool a proof that looks be dammed they are a man.. but the f150 and 400 spiderco just putting loot in sum other's poser pocket so they can pretend that money proves manhood.. ps men laugh at this.. dont stop
God bless the community of Solingen. But this is not a knife issue. Its an immigration issue as it was a Syrian man with ties to terrorist organizations. Unfortunately youre not allowed to say that. It will have consequences on our style of knives but i bet it was a $12 kitchen knife used
Would you guys consider selling different variations of contoured G10 or micarta scales on your site? I recently fell into a contoured G10 rabbit hole and I can't go back to flat peel ply! I'd love the trout scales in contoured G10 if you could find a way to print the design onto the curved surface!
The 3d printed crock has some potential. Imagine scanning your foot and being able to 3d print a shoe that completely contours to your exact foot shape
I've been looking for thumb studs for a knife i like, the ones Kizer sell are $15 and are made in China. I might buy one just for the thumb studs. I'd be really curious about the heat treat on those.
Why would you need a support on a 10 dollar knife. Just buy another. Do you really believe the 50 dollar knife is going to last longer than 5 of the 10 dollar knives?
If Benchmade lowers the bugout price to at least $130 as a response of the ozark trail knife, i will buy 3 and get a bemchmade butterfly tattoo on my chest
On the Ozark Trail Subject. I personally torture tested one, videos up on my RU-vid. It held up surprisingly well, i wasn't nice to it at all. At $10 one cannot expect much, while it was/is drop shut/drop open it has the worst sound of grating bearings and a stupid amount of blade play. Spine whack testing doesn't or didn't fail the lock but it is the minimum definition of an Axis style lock having much play in the crossbar. The reason in my opinion why this is hyped is due to the knife community at large that buys expensive knives and keeps them pristine without ever using them except to fondle. These are the same people who will not use the latest greatest supersteel to open an Amazon package because it might scuff the blade, but will be willing to use the $10 garbage QC quality OT to scrape battery acid off a battery post. This knife in no way in competition with the Bugout or any other quality knife, those who think it is have likely never put to use a good quality knife. Also those who say its so much better than x knife most likely do not own or never intended to own whatever x knife is. @ $10 this knife is a Gateway for some to start into the world of knife addiction, (much better than the BudK catalog trash) or for a young one to figure out what not to do with a knife. Overall feeling about this knife is a 2.5/10....However it is worth all 997 pennies. I personally would take a Bugout everytime over 17 Ozark Trails.
