She raised me Christian, yet we always lit a menorah every year to celebrate Hanukah because my mother wanted me to be aware of the other religions around us at the time (lot of Jewish kids where I grew up apparently). She let me learn about reincarnation and even said she can see it being a possibility from shit I said as a small child. She refused to take me to church and didn't watch any televangelist because she saw that stuff as manipulative and not necessary to pray/worship God. Then she got sick. She had a chronic lung infection that was non tuberculin in origin. She began coughing up blood and was petrified. Shortly after that, she began reading the bible more, started cutting out all music that wasn't gospel, and fell prey to televangelism. Nowadays, she's a completely different person and refuses to admit they're bad people. She puts herself in danger to go to bible study every week (can't see at night when she drives). She cannot miss a single donation. I've had to toss their letters to her at this point the moment I see them in the hopes they'll stop sending them after some time without donations. My mom was never like that before, but fear of death made her turn into what she never wanted to be. We all think we'd be different and not become like these poor souls, but we're just as likely under the right circumstances.

Same our little Christian church maxed out at like 15-20 people (mostly family members) and all the money that went on the basket was spent on us to go mini golfing and getting ice cream together. Honestly it wasn't that bad even for a kid. An hour or two on Sunday mornings and we were allowed to draw and color and stuff. Nothing like those crazy 4+ hour masses where you gotta keep standing up and praying every 20 minutes. I could never sit through that.

Great because Osteen's church didn't 'lock people out' or any such thing. Nor was there any emergency flooding around their church. The few staff that were there CORRECTLY told people that they did not have any kind of emergency facilities and weren't made to be a shelter of any kind. Yes, 'Mattress Mack' would be far more capable of that than the church that, as usual, had most sidedoors locked and didn't have shelter or emergency aid or lots of beds.

Now what Christianity has done, is created multiple churches, all claiming to be the one true church but with tiny little differences because the other branch of Christianity didn't fit their own personal worldview. That's why there's 6 main branches of Christianity with different interpretations, with smaller branches that also have different interpretations of the same book. That's why every abrahamic religion, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, are all the same stories written by, and borrowed by different cultures.

Legally they provided what they promised but they *know* it won't actually be worth the money they were paid. That said, there's no *real* legal difference or anything. A scam, con, grift or fraud can all be used for the same thing.

The bible defines the church as God's people. There are definitely no God's people in those giant buildings, they don't care about god, they just want religious comfort and entertainment on a Sunday morning. Honestly I have no sympathy for the people who fall for this nonsense.
