Flying out west for a person from the Midwest is one of the coolest experiences! There were a few things I needed to wrap my head around and adjust my mindset flying out west with hot temps and high density altitudes. Here are my top 3 tips for adjusting your mindset if you head out west!

Glad you are heading to Montana again. I'll be there in July as well. Would be a lot more fun to be going in a cirrus. I assume you're going to Bozeman again. A few fun things to do are ride the tram to the top of Lone Peak at Big Sky. Raft or fish on the Gallatin river. Chico Hot Springs is a nice place as well. Fly into West Yellowstone then hop on a tour to Old Faithful. If you get a chance fly into Missoula for a beautiful place to drop into same goes for Kalispell. Both have tons of stuff to see and do. Could also fly down to Hamilton south of Missoula for a visit to the ranch Yellowstone is filmed. Hope you have a great time. If you ever get to Asheville look me up for a drink.

Good points Al! Managing engine temps are a big deal here in SDL this time of year. Keep up the informational videos. Cheers!

Excellent discussion on how high, hot, flying conditions effect density altitude. I moved from sea level based flying to the western states and I made sure I found an instructor who understands high hot density flying. Like you said, you need to be aware of how different it is flying in hot and high temperature areas.

Really enjoying your channel. I see you went to Alaska with the people that taught at the flight academy in Renton. Good people.

I Alan nice to see you looking well and happy.it sounds a bit hot out there have you got your factor 50 on phil. Your carbon cirrus looks awesome in lime green would love that one. Do you get up near the top of your climb before letting cooler air into the engine or do you just keep a eye on your gauge for it going towards the red.safe flying buddy I hope it does not get to hot for you phil. Keep safe buddy phil. How's the girls doing ok are they coming to pick me up.
