Is this the most important component in the modern smart home? I'm not sure if I can commit to that, but it is certainly important, it's also cheap and easy to install, and will make creating automations a breeze. We are going to check out the humble reed switch, how they work, install one and make some automations in Home Assistant using some on the great new features released in version 0.113 including run mode, chooser and repeat features all through the GUI.
This is part 2 of 2 and includes the following helpful information(i hope)
3 x Automation related to magnetic reed switches and new automation features in Home Assistant
01:20 - Make use of the new run modes introduced in Home Assistant 0.113 Restart Mode
04:36 - Makes use of a mixture of OR with AND conditions via the GUI interface
8:50 - Control Multiple Entities with a Service call
12:50 - Automation makes use of the new repeat function
14:10 - Automation makes use of the chooser function
17:50 - Testing automation in actual life
19:00 - Conclusion on magnetic reed switches
This is the end of this 2 part video, if you have any question please leave them in the comments, if you would like a video on a particular topic please leave a comment as well.
Have a good weekend and I see you next time.

great video, very helpful. for the brightness adjustment automation, you could use the brightness_step service for the light.turn_on to step it down to 60%. same result but can make the fade more smooth

Hi James, nice video! Do you sometimes install a Home Assistant installation at a customer's home? Or do you consider it as not (yet) suitable for the less technical consumer?

Hi Johan, I have used home assistant at non technical home owners houses, but it has limitations and you need to avoid devices that aren’t fully supported and reliable, which will actually greatly limit the number of devices you can use. And in my opinion I believe home assistant needs a really solid, easy to use and reliable wall mounted tablet of some type to be ready for the wider audience.

@@SparkyJames Okay, thanks for your answer. I understand the limitations. Cool to hear that it is being installed at customers of you. Cheers, Johan
