Great production quality, sir. It was as if I was with you. The scariest thing I ever saw at an airport. I had been flown into the Grass Valley airport to repair a Cal Fire Firebomber. After I finished my task, I went to the eatery. As I was walking back, a dog, a lab, ran straight at an airplane's prop as it was taxing toward the runway. At the very last foot, the dog turned away from the prop. People and their dogs!

I'm a not-so-young pilot in training and I really enjoyed this video. Lots of little lessons here (airspace, radio communications, risk management, etc.), and one of my dream aircraft (also love the V-tails...I'm currently considering an S35 with the 550 conversion, but also looking at F33As with 550 conversions). I'm curious, how tall are you? I'm 6'6" with long legs. Seems like you fit well under that throw-over.
@MartyMitchell92660
@MartyMitchell92660 3 года назад
I really like the 550 conversion, about 10kts. faster and better climb rates. I'm not tall so can't help you with that metric. You might be able to have the pilot seat padding thinned out a bit to give you more headroom. Good luck with whatever you end up with. They're all great.

I absolutely love how you screwed up all the landing sequence 😆🤣😂 why did you turn that early and that high on right base 16R? I love that video! Fresh, entertaining and sounded quite fun to fly an almost formation flight with your friends! I love aviation and California! I was also quite surprised to see how slow were the 2 other planes. Apparently you respected the 140 KIAS limit for the LA SFRA and you were able to overtook them easily. Cheers
@MartyMitchell92660
@MartyMitchell92660 5 лет назад
You're right, turned base too soon, but it's not as simple as you said. Runway 16R has a 1400 foot displaced threshold (can't land there) and I was planning to exit at November (way down the runway). I could easily have landed in the landing zone from there. Better to have flown the downwind further though. Then I would have beat my friends to the restaurant.
@StefBelgium
@StefBelgium 5 лет назад
@@MartyMitchell92660 hear me well that was not to criticize but more by curiosity. In Europe here, when one wants to land "long" , ATC needs to know it so that there is no surprise on both pilot/ATC sides. Concentric Aviation, LLC I haven’t had any problems but I rarely Cary 4 people and bags. Both models are about the same with respect to CG. The 35 is lighter than the 33 so the CG charts are slightly different but in the end they’re about the same.

Why is it that they only put one yoke in a lot of Bonanzas? Is it the more common config for them still, or less these days?
@MartyMitchell92660
@MartyMitchell92660 5 лет назад
My model, the F33A was produced until 1994. I believe it came standard with a single toss-over yoke, like mine, but an optional dual yoke. Beginning sometime in the mid 80's, only the A36 model got a panel makeover, which included two yokes, each of which went directly into the panel, more similar to other planes, like Pipers and Cessnas. I prefer a single yoke as there's more room for passenger's legs and less of an obstruction to instruments and controls. It's not comfortable to have to keep your legs clear of the second (right) yoke. Most of my Bonanza friends have single toss-over yokes and seem to like them.

What is the LASFR Traffic callsign MEANT to be? Or does it not have an official callsign?
@MartyMitchell92660
@MartyMitchell92660 4 года назад
Ellenor Malik Not sure exactly what you are asking. LASFR stands for Los Angeles Special Flight Rules, a corridor thru LA Class Bravo Airspace that does NOT require a clearance from air traffic control. It is the way to transition LA Class Bravo airspace without one. Rules include a route, transponder code landing light ON airspeed limitation and communications. It is proper phraseology to say “LA Special Flight Rules, Cessna 1234X, over ABC, 4500 northwest bound” or similar. I programmed a user waypoint on my ForeFlight App called LASFR. It’s 10 miles SE of Santa Monica VOR on the 132 degree radial. Did that answer your question?
@ellenorbjornsdottir1166
@ellenorbjornsdottir1166 4 года назад
@@MartyMitchell92660 I understand that. Since you announce yourself on a certain frequency though using procedures which sound similar to those you use at an uncontrolled airport, what is the prefix you are MEANT to use? I heard "Corridor Traffic," and "El Eh (LA) Special Flight Rules" a few times in this recording.
@ellenorbjornsdottir1166
@ellenorbjornsdottir1166 4 года назад
@@MartyMitchell92660 That seems to largely answer the question - the traffic callsign that's considered proper phrasing (according to you anyway) is just "El Eh Special Flight Rules" without the word traffic.

@@ellenorbjornsdottir1166 You are correct, transmissions are in-the-blind, just announcing but not expected a reply. Either name is acceptable but "LA Special Flight Rules Traffic" is better. Not a pilot here, not meaning anything, just an actual question: In most of the videos of every pilot I see, they shout "Clear prop!", and then start the engine right away, because you made sure there is nobody around, although anyone around the propeller would not have time to step away from it. Is that "clear prop" an enforced step?
@MartyMitchell92660
@MartyMitchell92660 5 лет назад
Good observation! It would definitely be much better to shout “clear prop”, wait a few seconds for anybody to get out of the way, then start the plane. As you noted, I always make it a habit to take a good look around the airplane before I start it. Better to wait a bit before starting though. Not sure what the exact requirement is but I’m sure there’s a requirement to verify that the area around a moving propeller is clear before you turn the propeller. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching. “Clear Prop!”
@MartyMitchell92660
@MartyMitchell92660 5 лет назад
Didn't see anything in the Airman's Information Manual but the Airplane Flying Handbook (FAA-H-8083-3B) says this about engine start: Prior to engine start, the pilot must ensure that the ramp area surrounding the airplane is clear of persons, equipment, and other hazards from coming into contact with the airplane or the propeller. Also, an awareness of what is behind the airplane prior to engine start is standard practice. A propeller or other engine thrust can produce substantial velocities, result in damage to property, and injure those on the ground. The hazard of debris being blown into persons or property must be mitigated by the pilot. At all times before engine start, the anti-collision lights should be turned on. For night operations, the position (navigation) lights should also be on. Finally, just prior to starter engagement, the pilot should always call “CLEAR” out of the side window and wait for a response from anyone who may be nearby before engaging the starter.
