Man, this scene is a masterpiece. So much happened with no words exchanged. Theo finally realizes he was always telling the truth, and Lucas acknowledges his realization. Surrounded in a church of people that want him dead, with the child that destroyed his life singing a Christmas carol-- his best friend finally sees the truth when it's too late. And the way Theo just took the beating, because he knew he deserved it. What a moment. And Mads Mikkelsen delivered it flawlessly.

This is one of the most amazing scenes I have ever watched. The pain in MM's eyes and the breakdown watching the kids sing…His whole life had been ruined by a lie and the whole town was against him. You can see it in Theo's eyes that he knows that MM didn't do it, but Theo's wife never seems convinced of the truth!
@Greendalewitch
@Greendalewitch 5 лет назад
And she probably never will be. Its ... hard for us humans to believe in the good about other people, but then again its so easy for us to believe the worst. When someone is accused of something we automatically believe it, or gang up on those who were accused of said crime. Perhaps its harder for us to believe in the good about other people, because we are afraid to be let down, and yet when we do, we are always on guard. Foolish creatures we are. How did the movie end? Im trying to remember. Did it say anything about the relationship between Theo and his wife? Were they separated or still together?

This is better than 99.99% of the films made in Hollywood..
@terrimclean9864
@terrimclean9864 6 лет назад
Wouldn't say that high of a percentage. By that logic it would be the best movie in 10000 Hollywood movies. Considering Hollywood produce about 700 films a year that would mean its the best movie released in the last 15 years. There's about 120 years of film history meaning it would be in the top 8 films ever made in Hollywood. I love this film and think it's one of the best modern foreign films I've seen however Hollywood has made some masterpieces as well, like 2001 and Taxi Driver, even though it's turned to pretty much shit now and only a few auteurs and indie films are great these days. So I agree The Hunt is fantastic however it's not better than 99.99% of Hollywood films and more like 99.2%

shapolfab You're right, they're different kind of movies. What I meant to say is, that I thought it would've deserved to be best picture over 12 years a slave. However they're similar in the sense that the main character in both movies feels a sense of despair. And The Hunt had a greater impact on me in that regard. And also there've been a lot of movies about slavery. But I prefer The Hunt cause the subject matter is more timely, I guess.
@shapolfab

I see your point! I absolutely loved "The hunt" even though 12 years resonated with me on much deeper level. I also have to say that I love Mads Mikkelsen as an actor! He is one of the best actors Europe has produced. He really moved me in this movie. If you like his work, I would recommend (amongst others) "After the wedding" it's a Danish movie, great performances, great story! By the way because. By the way "The hunt" was competing in the "Best foreign films" category so it wasn't eligible for best film anyway (as in the same category as "12 years")

I lost it when i saw this scene. It felt like he caried all this rage and finally decided to just let it all out. Great acting also from both Mads and the guy playing Theo.

I thought of this movie today as I watched a wonderful male singing teacher lead 30 7 year old girls, including my daughter in choir practice. A single mistaken accusation of (interpreted) inappropriateness against this young man (ie. touching a little girl's shoulder) could devastate the rest of his life, especially if the media caught wind of it. Such a powerful movie and such incredible performances, especially from Mads. Another favourite of ours is "After the Wedding" - you'll need a full set of tissues... Cheers and thanks from Aust - Dave

This is acting. You really feel like you are watching a man far past his breaking point, backed into a corner, nothing left to lose.

This movie hurts me every time I watch it. It makes me so sad and angry. Mads did a great job at drawing people into his characters shoes. That doesn’t happen very often.
