One Doomed Spacemarine dude Silver Surfer is unironically one of my favorite NES games. Found about it from the nerd all those years ago and I used to play the shit out of it
AVGN at 6:33: _"Now, there's one thing about this game that you should probably know-and I bet you guessed already, because I've been holding my finger over this spot here for a reason. You know what's gonna happen: I'm gonna pull my finger away, there's gonna be some dramatic music, and... well... should I just do it?"_ Me, paused at 6:51: Oh God, please let there be a rainbow at the end of this segment. ...Wait, no! _Don't_ let there be a rainbow! Please, God, no! Anything _but_ a rainbow! I'll even take an _EA_ over a rainbow!
@Squidgy Republic No it didn't. The version used in the movie was made my Matt Willis especially for that movie. While the version that AVGN made fun of was the original version by The Primitives released many years before Mr Bean's holiday.
Fun Fact: Tim Follin is one the greatest vídeo game music composer, he created the music for Silver Surfer, Plok!, Solstice and other games made between the 80s and 90s. Also hes still alive if you care about him
I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard a story once about how Shigeru Miyamoto couldn't believe that Plok's intro music could be made on an SNES sound chip
Fuck me too!!! I have thought for years. Or even a programmer of any of the games he has ripped apart. I guess he did it once with a Jurassic Park game but I want more.
Too bad you didn't mention Sega Genesis' version of this game, it looks at least more funny. :) Especially when you lose all your limbs in the process.
5:32 Holy crap, I remember I had Bull as a kid, and he was the dummy whose limbs you had to pull off manually, rather than the spring-loaded ones that eject with the button. When playing with my other action figures I'd always pretend he was the "friend of the good guys" who got slowly dismembered by the bad guy (usually Mr. Sinister), and that would motivate the good guys to eventually hunt down the bad guy at the end of my make-believe narrative. Good fricking times.
Good times indeed! I had the pickup truck that was meant for Bull. It had a spring-loaded axle that would cause a rollover accident. 😆 Crash dummies were my absolute favorite with Lego in a close 2nd.
@@GoblinSquid Good point. Still, actual toy reviews would be pretty entertaining. I'm sure Incredible Crash Dummies aren't the only weird-ass toy line from the 80s and 90s.
When you actually know what is under his fingers while holding the box because you too have been traumatized by LJN and can just feel their logo through solid objects.
I never had an LJN game as a kid. I was born in 92 and grew up with the SNES but no NES. Even still, I predicted the LJN logo because I’ve seen enough AVGN episodes.
They should’ve made Mortal Kombat figures with the same features as these crash dummies toys where the limbs fall off. Think about it, Mortal Kombat Fatalities as action figures. That would’ve been a great idea if you ask me!
That's because the 2010s ended not too long ago, it's only been 7 months since the 2020s started. It's going to take a while before it gets to that point where it doesn't feel like the 2010s anymore.
@@gengarzilla1685 He knows this. In the Megaman episode, while traveling back in time through AVGN history, he eventually meets up with himself from the original Dr. Jeckle & Mr. Hide episode. During that encounter when they're discussing the one Megaman game which came out in either 2007 or 2008. Can't remember off hand, but anyway he says, "Woah, I'm retro".
They were weird toys by today's standards, but they were so fun. They made EVERYTHING with the Test Dummies on them. I had coloring books, activity book things, t shirts, *video game* (obviously), etc. There were lots of stuff.
The Nerd saying he was at one point into the Dummies as much as Ninja Turtles is so fun for me. I was also big into the toys as a kid. I remember genuinely being interested in the video game (I can't quite remember if I ever actually played it) so the Nerd reviewing it is a real treat.
It's funny how LJN is like the Nerd's arch nemesis and yet none of their games has made it further than Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde on the Nerd's shit scale.
Everyone had a friend back then with whom they played all the games. I think in a way, the Nerd is the embodiment of that friend... You are everyone's friend. Thanks, man!
You know whats bad? My best friend and I watched every teaser trailer for RTH leading up to its release back then. We bought the only 2 copies in our town expecting it to be like GTA but with bobbers/choppers. The disappointment kicked in 5 mins into the game(maybe less). It was supposed to be a hell-raising simulator. Check the old vids where it was like a cool barfight. We actually took a .38 to both copies the next day. I have never been that disappointed in a game. It is so bad! Their hands are big as a hog leg! Dont ever fall into the hype train.
Why do I think of the Weird Al version when I hear "once ther was this guy who"? There are many other songs where the version of Weird Al is much better than the original.
James: "When would you ever see a crash test dummy inside a cannon?!" Me: "Your honor, the Defense calls to the stand one Buster Dummy of Myth Busters."
LOL! I wouldn't be suprised if that were actually how they got the name! Though more deliberate, like the toy makers made that joke on purpose! Kinda like how in Rocko's Modern Life, when the executives told the team to create female character "with a good hook," they created a female character with a hook for a hand.
@@Reagan1984 I mean this is supposed to be a jingle that catchy and memorable that helps associated with the product. So of course it suppose to rhyme....right?
@@Rustycube88 I had the opposite experience; as soon as I saw him holding the box that awkwardly I literally went, "Oh no..." out loud as he only ever holds a box like that to cover the Laughin Jokin Numbnuts logo.
2006 intro: HE'S GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE PAST now: ...but the *REAL ACCIDENT IS HAVING YOUR UNENCRYPTED PRIVATE DATA HARVESTED BY HACKERS GOVERNMENTS AND CORPORATIONS*
@@reckless20 the reason i never skipped the theme is mainly because the way he montaged the footage for it was always different each time and really got me pumped. Now, I love his facial expressions and the self conscious funny way he segways into the ad. But i dont watch many youtube or TV series (just movies) so im prolly not as burned out as you.
Could the joke about Daryl be that he's the only one with a name that's not a car pun? Like Inky, Pinky, Blinky, and Clyde? Also, I need them to make a video about that vinyl record.
I like to call that "the Pac-Man joke." A series of names or objects with super close relation ending with one that has no relation, meant for tiny shock humor.
I just realized, I’ve been watching this guy since I was in 4th grade. My best friend showed me one of his Bugs Bunny videos. I’m 18 now, just graduated high school and Me and my buddy still talk about the new AVGN videos every time they come out. Thanks for all the memories James.
For real, I’ve been watching him since I was in the 3rd grade I think and now I’m 19. The earliest video I can think of watching was either the Halloween video or the Spider-Man video
Brilliant, even after all these years. Wish you had covered the whole song instead of just one verse and chorus, but even so, Elsie and James nailed it. Bravo!
When that LJN logo appeared, I screamed at the same time as the Nerd did! LMAO We were lucky enough to get a AVGN episode so early too! Awesome! Thanks, James! :)
The LJN reveal got me good. It's been a while since I watched an AVGN episode, but as soon as James pointed out the way he was holding the box... it all came back.
I was not into the Crash Dummies cartoon or toy line, and I certainly never played the video games. But I did like all the live action PSAs with Lorenzo Music and Jack Burns as the voices of Vince and Larry. Those were the days. RIP both of them.
@ed champagne I think he's still a bit funny. His content's not as crazy but I can definitely say this is the nerd. Can't say the same about some other creators though.
My favorite part of the CTD toys was the fact they were very articulate action figures in a time where most figures could barely move their legs and arms.
