This is life most satisfactory moments for this respected person for getting citizenship of his MotherLand. Thank you Govt for bringing such policy and helping people who needs the most.
Congratulations to the Indian Government on CAA. Mr Joseph Pereira has just made history to be the 1st to receive Citizenship in India. A long awaited dream come true. May he enjoy the blessings of being Indian & Goan.
In hindsight it can be said if Mr Pereira would have kept his Portugal citizenship it would have been much easier for him to 1) Get the long term visit visa in order to get a Indian Citizenship 2) When OCI come up it would have been easier and then like many other OCI holders he could have come and stayed in India and eventually relatively easily would have got Indian citizenship .. any way good for him he is happy and his family is happy
Few questions 1) when Mr Pereira went to Pakistan on Portgal passport what visa? lets assume student Visa but if he went there in 1960 how come he managed to stay there until going to Baharin in 1973? a student visa won't allow such a long stay ! 2) Why he had to give up Portugal citizenship in 1973 fora job in Baharin? he could have kept his Portugal citizenship? and then when OCI coem along could have taken OCI and after staying in India for 10 years apply for citizenship thousand of OCI holder have come back to India !
Those Goans blaming Indian govt ( becasue it is BJP) and demanding dual citizenship ( which India does not give to anybody ) should learn from this person .
No need to welcome Francisco. He was born a Portuguese Goan later India annexed Goa and Goans became adopted or forced Indian. Pakistan and India were one country. Like some countries were part of India. Such people must have multiple citizenship. Even Portuguese Goans must be given dual citizenship. Goans before 19 December 1961 are Portuguese by birth. Indian Government must understand diplomatic relationship. Pakistan is not enemy of India. They were brothers and sisters when India and Pakistan were one. This is displacement of people by British in 1947.
Even Portuguese Goans must be given dual citizenship.?? WHY they can take OCI like thousand of others .. No special treatment , India does not allow dual citizenship that is it
Even in those days or now to get long term visa in India is not that easy but that is the law and with Pakistani citizenship it is bound to be hard,, don;t blame Indian govt , As you can see from his interviw after his retirement he did get 2 yr visa in India and then in 2015 he got longer term visa ,, lucky for him CAA come along meanwhile
Yes, unfortunately because of his circumstances he had to take Pakistan citizenship and now Sawantwadi CM showing as if a gift to a NIZ GOEMCAR who happens to be Christian done a unimaginable favour.
In Goa you converse to a Christian Goenkar in konkani, they reply to you in English. In Bombay, very few Goans speak in konkani. Even the old aunties in Bombay speak the TAMBDI English. They are ashamed of their mai bhas. So we cannot say why this couple doesn't speak in konkani. They don't have many people who speak the language.
