We are still on summer break but boy do we have a great interview for everyone with a driver who made quite an impression in the paddock this year! The young french star Théo Pourchaire gives us a great look at how his career began, how close he got to F1, how close he still is and how he ended up in an Indycar!
I have some Indycar testing news to discuss as well which hopefully gets some excitement going. Driver news to discuss, as well as a wild Ricky Treadway Random Indy 500 driver of the week!

17:09 yes we do, and Milwaukee is perfect for it! NASCAR has throwback weekend at Darlington, IndyCar at Milwaukee as a throwback race is a perfect idea and I’ve been saying this for a couple of years!

Big fan of your pod Conor. Been listening for a couple years now. Your authenticity keeps me coming back. Also been a fan of you as a driver since I saw ya on Amazing Race 30. Your attitude got me back watching Indy car after a 10 year break. Always yelling at the tv screen when you race for others to get out of your way. I'm always searching for what streaming service to watch your races on. Keep up the great work and I hope to see you back in Indy car. Hope it's before the next 500.

I've been a fan of Théo since 2021 and it was so great to hear he had a great experience in the US. I discovered indycar thanks to him and i understand why he loved it. Great to see he seems to be at least considered for a seat in a couple of teams in indy and hopefully it will work out because he truly deserves to show his talent to the world. Thanks for the interview, it was really interesting !

Awe yeah! Stoked for this one. Didn’t listen to the audio yesterday because I wanted to wait for the vid to drop. Great interview! Is it as simple that there is a financial element why hire Siegel over Theo? Does McLaren need a driver who has money behind him? Nolan has not shown nothing over TP so far. That being said I believe that Siegel could very well be a great driver in near future. Hopefully he will be given time to learn and gather experience in peace. All this McLaren driver rulette has been very fascinating ! Now they have young guns in Indycar and F1. Great to see how they do in upcoming seasons. Theo is cool. I hope he gets a seat and same as Nolan, gets time to prove himself🙏

The firestone tires have been too hard and unable to degrade since Gateway's 2017 return. They haven't bothered to make a softer tire the entire time. Now it's a problem at Iowa too, one of the best races with traffic is now a parade like Gateway. Restarts should NEVER be the only opportunity to pass, the leaders need to be able to get around the last driver on the lead lap.
@ConorDaly22
@ConorDaly22 Месяц назад
I mean we had 2 different compounds at gateway last year with the reds hah so they did at least try something. But yeah, definitely need to be able to do more overtaking

the videos are a bit long sometimes. If I was in charge, which I'm clearly not, I'd make them no more than 30 minutes. . The amount of potential drivers for F1 in 2025 that are floating just shows that some drivers in those incumbent seats are staying around too long and past their best, namely Perez and Bottas, I think for the second Sauber (soon to be Audi) seat alongside Hulkenberg, it should be Theo in that seat, I think it's a shame that he hasn't been seriously considered for that seat by Sauber and that people aren't taking him seriously despite the fact that he's an F2 champion, I don't see Bottas staying next year, his time there is practically done, yes the car has been woeful but he hasn't done enough, and given the recent management changes with Binotto being brought in, I think Bottas is on the way out, that second Sauber seat should be Theo's, it would be a shame if he's not in F1 in the future, yes his currently brief career in IndyCar has been pretty good but there's still that lingering thing about another victim of becoming F2 champion and not getting an immediate graduation to F1 or not making it to F1 at all
@ConorDaly22
@ConorDaly22 Месяц назад
I honestly agree with this entirely!

I understand if my comment gets deleted but it would be kinda funny if Pourchaire replaces Canapino during this season (considering what happened after Detroit). Wouldn’t mind it being Conor in the seat. Regardless who it is, I hope they get embraced rather than harassed.

There are some wild stories about the shenanigans that JP Sr got into, and JPJ went to prison for a while in the 80s because he refused to testify against his father. He was supposed to get the Domino's ride instead of Little Al in 85 and had to give it up because of all the legal dramas going on. Then he also managed to bookend his Indycar career with wins in 83 at Michigan and 1998 at Texas. Then he stopped racing when his Huntington's disease started to affect his driving.

How is the Leader's Circle funded? Where does the money come from?
@ConorDaly22
@ConorDaly22 Месяц назад
Entry fee’s, promoters, events. I don’t know all the details, but it’s why prize money is so low. You look at the purse for a nascar cup race at its like $8M per weekend. That’s because they don’t have a separate fund going to the teams
@jaeger4540
@jaeger4540 Месяц назад
Unfortunately in today's F1 environment 3 years is too long. There are only 20 F1 teams, with MAYBE 1-2 new seats available per year. They do not want a champion that took 3 years to win the F2 championship - they want The Hot Shoe that Wow's Them, and Kills It in 1 or 2 years, Tops. And they don't care about any excuses...
@ConorDaly22
@ConorDaly22 Месяц назад
well that's an interesting take. lol part of this i agree with, but i also dont know if that is entirely correct to say about a champion still.
@SoulGaming-kp3cp
@SoulGaming-kp3cp Месяц назад
Some drivers in F1 paid their way or went there through their nationality without even being f2 champions, like Stroll, Zhou, Sergeant, Mazepin or Latifi. Theo did win races and championship and his the youngest F3, F2 winner. He deserved to be in F1 1 or 2 years ago buy Sauner is not a very good academy unfortunately
@jaeger4540
@jaeger4540 Месяц назад
@@ConorDaly22 I agree that being a champion should come with some status; but the F1 teams have already shown that they just don't care, and are looking at young drivers with completely different criteria. i.e. Oliver Bearman's promotion to HAAS F1 next year. In 2023 F2 he finished 6th. He's 15th now, and will likely not do better than he did last year. He will have never cracked a top 3 F2 championship finish, yet he will be in F1 come 2025. This should make a lot of young drivers wonder why they are even in F2 to begin with when such things happen. Not that the F1 ladder series hasn't always had strong plutocratic and nepotistic elements, but Bearman's promotion also throws out any notion of meritocracy for the rest of the F2 field. And then there's Antonelli's likely promotion to F1 in 25, but hey at least he's currently 7th...
@ConorDaly22
@ConorDaly22 Месяц назад
@@jaeger4540 yeah all of that just doesn’t really make sense but motor racing never makes sense, nor is it fair for the most part! Lol. Several f1 drivers on the grid absolutely do not deserve to be there but money still paves the way. The whole bearman thing is definitely an interesting one but hey, he’s got the shot. Teams always know more than us who can just see results. I say that a lot about IndyCar as well 😎
