The Infamous Webkinz Killer Rumor (2007)

oh my god, things like this freak me out. as a child many of my nightmares actually resembled poorly photoshoppes computer games for some strange reason. I have vivid memories of being between worlds, staring at a computer as these horrific beasts would stare back at me from inside the monitor and make these awful noises, muffled and distorted by thr low audio quality. its left a mark on me to this day and it causes me to feel genuinely distraught when I see poorly photoshopped hoaxes like dr. quack with red eyes

I was obsessed with these back in the day, I had like 20 of them. I also had a Webkinz birthday party in 3rd grade, it was great. Edit: I just counted them, I have 28.

I remember one time my sister stopped using the Talking Angela app because the character apparently had "cameras in its eyes" that would spy on you. In terms that actually make sense, the app would use the camera on your device to spy on you. Of course, a quick Google search rendered this moot, and it was regarded as nothing more than a childish playground rumor. I remember about a month later she continued using the Talking Tom series of apps as well.

Why did this scare me so much? Maybe because it's dark but...

God I remember how obsessed my friends and I were about this game. I even remember getting my friend a Webkinz for her birthday but used the code for myself. When she went to redeem the code it didn’t work (since I used it) so she went to the store to exchange it for a new one but they wouldn’t let her... Lmao I was such an asshole.

Webkinz is way different now. Dr. Quack is retired, and your pets can no longer get sick. It’s not fun anymore. It’s just not, it makes me sad

When I was in 2nd grade, my teacher had one of these and the entire class basically mad decisions about what webkinz does or whatever. But one day I was bored at home, I logged on to it and changed the password. When I got back to school the next day we all sat around the screen waiting for the teacher to log back into it. I got too scared I was about to get caught that I asked to go to the bathroom. When I came back to the classroom, everyone was freaking out because someone changed the password. I couldn’t remember what I set the password too so I couldn’t changed it back. I was never caught. I pissed a lot of people off that day.

Ohmygod, I totally remember some kid telling me about how Dr. Quack and some of the others going and killing Webkinz. It freaked me out, and when I told my teacher, she was like "that's probably just a rumor. You don't have to worry." Damn, thanks for bringing some light on this repressed memory.

this reminds me of the roblox John Doe thing where everyone was spreading how he was gonna return and hack everyone, i partly believed it but mostly knew it was just some fake rumor and had a bit of fun looking into it. on the day of his "return" i actually got a change your password email that i never sent and i got kinda disturbed

It's interesting that rumors about games and media back in the day scared people so much. It was the fear of the unknown taking over people's minds just by a simple rumor, short and sweet that it was, triggering people to think in such ways. Nowadays with so much information on the internet, creepypastas and rumors such as these are mostly debunked easily or not thought as creepy anymore. Though those Dr. Quack edits still feel unsettling to me. Like an edgy flash animation invaded a game to enact violence on the peaceful inhabitants.

I actually heard from my cousin that if you visited dr quack's office between 8 and 9 pm, he would shoot them. I tried many days to actually get this to happen, but it never worked. Now that I'm looking back, why did I want my webkinz to die? I was a twisted kid. I'm sorry Trent, please forgive me buddy, wherever you are.

Played this back in 2007. I’m 20 now. Since this virus started quarantine, I logged in after about 10 years and I finally got the last gem for the Webkinz Crown of Wonder last week. 😂

When I was a kid, I remember one of my friends saying something like “If you visit Dr. Quack too many times in a row, his eyes will turn red for a split second as he pulls the screen back to check your pet. Then he’ll kill them!” I was a gullible child, so I tried for hours. Naturally, I had no luck.

I never played webkins ever. I don’t like these sorts of games. So why the heck did I watch the whole video.

When volunteering at a thrift store, I once found a webkinz beagle with the code still attached and unused among the toy donations, and never before have I felt so bad for not having any spare change that day. I hope whatever kid bought him used the code and gave him the love he deserves. ;;

I worked at Hallmark during the height of the Webkinz hype... we couldn't keep those new ones in stock. People would line up outside our store an hour before it opened. We never had anything else like that, except Silly Bandz (which no one lined up for but people were just as crazy for). I have this white puppy with music note/g clef ears that I bought because I loved it, still have it on my bookshelf even though I never played as a kid.

Dear lord, when I was in elementary school, a friend of mine told me he got a letter from his older brother that crashed his game. I do recall watching a video that portrayed the doctor with red eyes and some creepypasta stuff, and I later found it in the RU-vid Museum playlist. It's quite funny looking back at it, it was so poorly made.

I somehow remembered my password and username for Webkinz and surprisingly, none of my pets were dead OR was my account expired. The nostalgia hit me like a fricking truck though oh my goodness. I remembered hearing about these theories when I was 7-8 and I was like _"Dr. qUacK iS eViL"_ and brought one of my pets to the doctor JUST to stare at Dr. Quack to see if he'd pull out a chainsaw or something if I stared long enough. Honestly, I wish I could go back and slap my 8 year old self lmao.

In my childhood, we had the infamous "100 Death" rumor. There's a game on the app store called "Wild Cheetah Sim". It was all the rage from 1st grade, and still is to some of the younger kids in my school. It was a game where you leveled up a cheetah to gain abilities, helper cheetahs, and stuff like that. There were enemies, like the frigging RHINOS, which I still hate to this day, and stuff like rabbits, etc. You can level up your health, strength, and stamina, and when you got to higher levels, you could get new abilities such as a Jump (a stun attack that can both help you run away or get closer to other animals). Anyways, the rumor. One of my friends in line as a child told me that she had heard that when you get to level 100, you have to find a key, and when you collect it, all your cheetah friends run away as you get ambushed in the area. She told me that it was called EVIL MODE, and nobody had beaten it yet. So being a Wild Cheetah Sim connoisseur, I decided to get to 100 levels. But in the end, I never did. I'm probably going to try again someday, but for now, it remains a mystery. (also if you wanna play the game is made by turbo rocket games, highly recommend)

i heard the rumor about neopets murdering webkinz and was worried, but my sister told me that the webkinz charms we had would protect them. i don’t know if she just made it up or actually believed it, but it saved me from a ton of anxiety.

I remember hearing about the neopets things back in second grade. Apparently webkinz was too popular so neopets was waging war against webkinz by killing off your pets through spikes in the beds and stuff like that. I was so mad that me and my friends had plans to get neopets shut down but nothing ever ended up happening. Anyone else remember any of these stories?

MMMMM this reminds me of old Minecraft rumors. Herobrine was the big bad one of course but I think more specifically of null. Sometimes on a very full server if you disconnected and someone else who was lagging stared at where the player disconnected, a placement entity which was just the default skin with the tag “null” would appear for a few seconds until they stopped lagging, when it would vanish. Being kids of course everybody thought null was a living person who would hack whoever had been previously standing there and delete your account. Honestly I miss believing rumors like this, they were creepy but the thrill of “I saw null” or going on a hunt for Herobrine for like 2 hours with all your friends is irreplaceable.
