Yes! Especially "idol" in the K-pop world. You can't say anything even remotely critical even if it's just simply expressing a harmless opinion. Obsessed fans will bully you and rip you apart bc of their cult obsession.
@@Yellow-Rose If you say you dislike a song or concept a group is trying you constantly have to state after how good the group is and how you aren’t trying to discredit them. Which leaves very little space for improvement for these groups since the fandom eats up anything attached those groups names. I refuse to believe that people liked the corny lyrics from that dynamite song from bts. Dedicated fandoms in general aren’t healthy. And as a black girl I’m not sacrificing my blackness or morals just so I can be apart of fandom. I’ve seen people defend blackface from some of these kpop people
@@user-us7py1cy2k “I refuse to believe people like dynamite ....” Well I liked dynamite, and so did millions of other people. Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t mean other people don’t like it. It’s kind of hypocritical that you want people to accept your opinions, but can’t accept that others have an opinion. I agree with you that everyone has the right to have an opinion about a person/music /food/ political views/ etc. But dismissing people who don’t agree with your opinions would also make you a hypocrite. -I am also a black girl
Adella, Kevin may also be using one of the online services that provide comments, likes, dislikes for pay. The homogeneous nature of the comments points toward that strategy. It’s like buying followers.
What was good about the video Aba & Preach? You are two men that share views with KS,of course not all views but you share and supported him enough in your videos to fall into the category she placing people that agree with him. I’m not making this a pick a side thing, you two grown men that can do what you want, but as Men this is off code and suspect nature. I believe like me you agree with not all but most of what Ks says’s. Maybe I’m wrong but this video makes it seem like she paints anyone who agrees with anything KS says as a Kult, mindless person with no mind of their own. This looks suspect, there is a reason content creators like the “The Roommates” and “Fresh and Fit” not in these comments.
Kevin Samuels is the only Man I know that has built a "cult of followers" and a "cult of haters" simultaneously at the same time, 1 group just happens to like him, the other group just happens to dislike him 🤣🤣🤣.
In Adella Afadi's comment section is full of profound and critical thinkers that approach prosocial behaviour in a controversial manner. Your hypothesis is on point
They live vicariously through him that’s why. Most of them probably have nothing to bring to the table which makes it much easier for them to drag women instead of taking a look at themselves.
They really think his ideas are novel and deep. They hear a stat and think that means something it doesn’t necessarily mean. It’s like their first time on the internet. They take anything said with a confident tone seriously
@@servingcant I could see that it was interesting to think that to Kevin Samuels being a high value man doesn’t really have a component of emotional health and stability that is necessary in a relationship. Instead it’s make money which I guess is a two fold thing having money makes you neither a better person or partner or necessarily better with money. Also looking good is nice too but ultimately it’s not just the exterior that makes you an attractive partner.
He has zero educational background about relationships except failed relationships. He can teach about his failures and use that, but he uses ranks and money to measure humans.
Sort of related. I think. As a teacher, my students mimic me. Once, I took in another teacher's class and her students were just like her! I was so shocked and later began to notice my students are just like me as well. All that to say, I relate to this, and I am happy to hear you put into words what I haven't been able to.
@@notwithoutpizza4702 I teach high school. My theory may just feel valid due to the fact that students and, humans in general, are multifaceted. For examples, I am a loud, animated and goofy teacher and my students tend to be the exact same. If I tell a joke, all of a sudden my class is full of comedians. However, it may just be that my class environment makes them feel comfortable to show that side of themselves.
Someone in the comments section the other day mentioned that the whole KS phenomenon is like a cult. His followers literally hang onto his EVERY word and worship him. It's scary. At the same time, he definitely attracts men who can't think for themselves- they literally parrot everything he says.
Was this me loll or is there someone else in this world who agrees. i feel like many many people agree who don't have that parasocial relationship. He def taps into a deep part of these men, comforts and validates them and then leads them along like the Pied Piper
I totally understand that you don't want that smoke! They turn up under EVERY video that people mention their leader. Thank you for providing a space outside of his echo chamber though, it's appreciated and nice to know that some of us still have our own mind.
@@sim771 Yes! The Pied Piper is a brilliant analogy. Seriously though, I'm just happy that others are starting to notice the synchronised behaviours of his followers. The way they quote his words as if it is truth just leaves me scratching my head.

KS is perhaps the voice they feel they have never had. However, the real world isn’t like KS thinks, we match up with men and women with different looks, social backgrounds and incomes, educations all the time. It is rarely like he likes to say. I think it is very unrealistic. KS, by many woman in general, feel it funny he ranks himself a 10. Beauty is so much the whole of a person and in the eye of a person, KS will never tell me how I rank and who I AM.
The real world is more like KS describes it then how delusional women with unrealistic expectations describe it lol. That's the point of his whole message, bringing people back to reality. A man will choose a Beautiful loyal woman over an average looking woman with career anyday if he can afford to take care of her. Because Most Men put More Value on a Woman's Looks than they do her Money. This is a hard truth that alot of women don't want to accept. But KS is the one who will tell them that directly. And women who don't want to accept that truth Villify him for it.
@@kingstrong5351 Thank you for your respectful reply! I’m not a delusional woman and I can appreciate what you said and believe very much a loyal beautiful woman is a treasure and feel the same! In my own personal experience, I’ve had positive dating experiences and relationships that haven’t left me hating on men. I would much rather a man be faithful than wealthy. Attraction is important, but I’m not into ranking men on job status or looks. I don’t understand KS POV. Maybe, I’m just a different cat! I’m not a hater, I just don’t relate.
@@kingstrong5351 KS describes the real world as black and white when the world, ppl’s lives and ppl themselves r more complex than tht. His followers sound like sheep at times, tht whole group think mentality makes them sound like him whether or not u think he tells the truth. As she pointed out in the beginning of the video, anybody who has anything to critic KS, his followers r the ones to cuss the hell out of the person w/ alternative opinion. Sad rlly.
I can't help but fall in love with the fact that you got all this hate from his supporters and you were like "yeah...anyway lets talk about something that matters, like Science!"
I feel like most Kevin Samuels followers are men who have faced many rejection and turned bitter. They feel like they can get back at those women through KS harshness. As for Kelly Stamps, other relatable influencers and influencers in general most of their followers are people living vicariously through them because they wish they had this life. Since it's what they wish they were they just kinda start to imitate them.
I feel the same, they live through KS, because he often comes off bitter, harsh, or angry with women and sometimes men. He may speak some truths, it doesn’t feel like it’s form a point of real love of a feeling that he really cares about the women. I don’t love the vibe, a true master teacher doesn’t use the world to measure worth or rank.
@@AGirlNamedVan That's fine if you do. I didn't base this based on what KS says but on comments from his supporters under his videos or videos talking about him.
Please do make another video speaking on the pressure for influencers to speak on political issues in the name of "awareness". Most people are already aware but I do feel influencers are subject to this pressure because they have the "platform" even if hey may not be the most educated on that topic
Ugh. Please do. I relate to this, I'm just not a big youtuber "yet". I got called out a few months ago by another youtuber telling me I need mental help because I said, I don't see why every black youtuber has to talk about being black and it eventually becomes their identity. We as black people are more than just our color. Now let me go back into my hiatus.
I started writing up the notes and I’ll be honest I got scared because I don’t want to come off insensitive to those who the injustices or issues are actually affecting if that makes sense? Anyways it’s still on the list lol we shall see 😅
@@WorldofDaisyFlowers I get what you are saying. I balance out the two in my channel. I think it’s because I am into being Black, but I do not over do it in my videos…Especially when I talk about myself. I do think we still have to discuss it, especially if we want to be the voice of our people and educate non-black people in the process.
Great observation. I get called boring cause I listen to Lofi and the people I hang around listen to trap music. We are so different to the point that we’ve recently slowed down on our hangouts lol
I noticed this too. Everyone is a Simp or a Beta and in comment sections I get random responses from men that aren't relevant to what I've said and it's always a KS quote.
The problem with a lot these influencers audiences and I’ve heard someone say it before is that they work in absolutes, they have no middle ground in their arguments which makes them very toxic at times. I’ve been watching the “manosphere” since I was 13 I’m 22 now and just because I agree with one thing doesn’t necessarily mean I agree with the rest and I definitely see misogyny in the community (that I don’t approve of) but does that discredit the other things they say no BUT I have a choice to form my own opinion based on the advice given. Rom Wills imo has the best middle ground in his arguments where the outcomes benefit the men and women in a harmonious prosperous relationship.
Girl, you need your own TED Talk. LOL. Had to pause the video to read some of the comments. Sad! I watched your video and I don't think you said anything wrong. In order to understand it you would need some sort of malleability of thought process. Not everyone is able to follow along. Smh. With a Bachelor's degree in Sociology even I learned something new. New subbie. I enjoy all of your videos.
Some people didn’t watch the whole video and it shows, she spoke about more people than y’all daddy Kevin samuels. But that’s all y’all caught lol. Just proving what she’s saying lol This is why I got ride of most social media platforms( Facebook, instagrammed Snapchat) and RU-vid is next. I believe social media has caused a great delusion. Same with some of the music out today and reality T.V.(which isn’t reality at all). Love yourself and love others 🖤
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣girl I am definitely subscribing now. You are all RU-vidrs and influencers kryptonite. Exposing everyone left and right. You are their weakness.
Wow thats exactly what Kevin Samuel say to those women. Average people get with aver age people. If you are average why not go for an average guy cause your dating history has proven only average guy check you out. True individualism does not exist. Your family, friends, peers, society at large have a big influence on the individual perception of "self" so the ladies may think they are not average but society and their own dating history has proven they are. They would be happier in dating if they understand and appreciate that fact.
@@navytanutrof1823 Precisely! That's why we should be wary of the people we surround ourselves with. If one knows thyself, it will help navigate life a lot easier.
The way you articulate these videos 😭😂😂 this is how I wish my assignments were structured in uni😅😅 Another Great video 😁🔥🔥🔥🔥 keep them coming... While you're at it please tell the Dekus that they still have a channel 😂😂😂😂🥂🥂🥂
I’m a “ fan” of no one. Y’all need to “ influence” yourselves!!!! These people don’t care about you, they don’t know you. You are a paycheck to them and nothing more. Or... maybe some people enjoy being used🤔
Interesting, I think I have stepped out of this phase, so I no longer actively watch many YT channels where it revolves around simply consuming their personality. I don't really care too much about those types of channels anymore. I have shifted my focus to channels that talk about theories, educational lectures, motivational speakers, mental health, review channels, etc. But I feel that's due to having such a strong aversion to idolization that I feel can or will be built by leaning into channels that tempt parasocial aspects. This was a good video, very introspective, thank you.
The thing about social spaces on the internet is that they make it much easier for these psychological concepts you mentioned to turn maladaptive. In a real life setting, it's normally harder to block yourself from different people or different views from yours so we all learn to play nice with each other (for the most part) and act within normal social conduct. But online, echo chambers form more easily and can also be found easily. And so people radicalize towards very extreme/niche views that otherwise would not be possible (or as probable) to happen. I fear that in the long run social media might do us more harm than good as a species... Not to be a fatalist lol
Found myself witnessing this "I-can-think-for-myself-except-for-when-a-famous-person-is-in-the-room" effect it's weird. Thanks I just didn't know that there was a word for it
This is some good content! As for Kevin Samuels influencing a bunch of men...(and women) I have no problems with that I think it's needed but that conversation is neither here or there. Everyone is influenced by a medium of media to a certain degree, just be self aware of it.
This is the first video of yours that I’m watching; your production quality is so so so appreciated. I really enjoy the the camera and audio quality, as well as the lighting used for recording. Another aspect I enjoyed was the way everything is edited together so cohesively, and on top of that the points being covered are presented so well. Without a doubt this really is a 10/10 video
This was very insightful Adella. As an aspiring contents creator, I struggle with not knowing who my audience is based on my persona. I guess I'd figure it out the more I grow in my space.
Really enjoyed this video and the previous Kevin Samuels one. I appreciate the research and intelligence you bring to these conversations. Can you do a video on the Olivia Dope / Joe Budden situation? I feel like it could help a lot of people; especially young women and black women when dealing with sexual harassments in the work place. Also good to be aware of how you can be treated in those situations. Her Podcast Co-hosts from "See the thing is" really threw her under the bus, belittled her on social media whenever she started to tell her story and blamed her for the situation because of her reaction to being harassed by Joe. Thank you i'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
It's brave of you to say that we need to filter the convictions of those who influence us and decide for ourselves if it's true. Some find that kind of free thinking threatening. Courage is a great influence.
When listeners solely copy and past everything they hear the influencer says and defends even when morally it's not really right is when it gives 'cult' energy.
Off topic BUT Your voice is so soothing. Ever thought about starting a podcast? Would love to listen to your content whilst driving and keeping an eye out for google maps. LOOOL
@@AGirlNamedVan they can tell them. When in history has men not told women how to look act and feel. Every one wants to do better in different aspect in life. The way he goes about it is very, meh. Not usefull for building good character, not even good for financial advise.
@Adella Afadi a lot of people , especially on the internet are followers looking for surrogate father figures and so on , so the emulate them religiously cus they come from a place of frustration anger and hurt so they see these youtubers as their liberators.
I’ve noticed this concept especially with family. There are certain parts of my family that have done hypocritical or extremely bad things. But there are certain people in the family that will defend them to the death even though they know that they were wrong. And I think to myself, would they be defending this person if they weren’t family? Very intriguing topic. I’ve seen some of the titles to your other videos and I am officially a subscribed!
Politic in America is a perfect example. You can disagree within your party but toe the party line against the other side. This harden both side and nobody listens anymore. If no one is listen and debating then we can't come together and create new solutions.
There is now a word for it Vicarious Disonance. This is something it especially in the cancel culture. When some influencers do something that is not good and the influenced either defend the influencer(from the stranger) or they try to change their stance because of what someone else who is just like them says. Idk this is my take on that😅
I completely agree with the whole thesis that people become so attached to media personalities that they really do want to be perceived to be just like them. The sad thing is that it will always lead to disappointment or something worse, because no two people are really that similar and fans rarely have the means to achieve the same lifestyle as the creators they idolize. KS fans seem to take it a level that I thought people gave up in their teens, they think they’re just listening to a man imparting wisdom, but they’re really just listening to a delusional misogynist who just likes to out women down. If KS adamantly believes all women are not high value, why do all his followers think they’re all high value? Anyway, love your video!
I've got three anecdotes to add to this! What a great video btw. One time I came back from a week long church camp with an Afrikaans accent because 70% of the kids on camp were South African. In my current youth group, I had to make a really conscious effort not to speak with an African accent as a joke, because pretty much every other person in my group is an African immigrant either first or second generation, and they use their accent for comedic effect all the time! I knew it would be wrong for me to do it but it took a lot of effort not to play along! I am a big fan of RU-vidr Emilia Fart, and I would even consider her an internet friend. Since she had 800 subscribers I've been sending her fan letters and she sends letters and messages back. She's an angel. But she made a video talking about some hate someone had sent her, and was deliberately vague about who so they wouldn't be attacked, and then near the end of the video she showed clips of fans saying how much they love her because she wanted to choose to focus on that instead of the hate. And I was the very first clip she used! Excited, I started my comment with "That was me!!" Cue a barrage of negative comments and dislikes on my most recent videos, without making reference to Emilia so I had no idea why it was happening. But they thought I was the anonymous hater. How stupid do you have to be. You have to a) not watch the video through b)not read my comment through C) not see my video about opening a letter from Emilia. Just craziness.
Vibrational energy, dusty, feminine energy, toxicity, patriarchy etc etc terms that modern ladies repeat a lot. The manosphere is new and of course the theme and ideas that are disseminated there will be taking over by a variety of people. Just like the ladies are throwing terms out men are finding their terms. It is as normal as peer pressure, wanting to be part of the group. Great new terms you introduced there. That's why republicans are the way they are, gangs are the way they are, goth culture, pretty girl culture are the way they are. Once you find a group, you tend to defend it.
I read the other day an article about how Brazilian RU-vidrs/influencers resulted in Portuguese kids speaking like them - although is the technically the same language, there are a lot of difference in pronunciation and vocabulary - , using brazilian portuguese slangs and how it surprised/irritated their parents (the europerans/portuguese)
Oh Adella!!! 👏👏👏👏👏 Yet another fabulous video. Thoughtful, researched, objective, sober, insightful. You've definitely given language to a couple of thoughts I've been having. Thank you so much!
You are VERY intelligent dear. Everything you just explained is why I monitor (and I do indeed) what is played on the TV, YT, games played, etc. I wish this could be translated with such clarity for my 6 year old lol
I’m a new subscriber and I enjoy your commentary so much. You always offer well thought out and calm takes on social issues. Such a breath of fresh air. 💜
Ive always been curious about the term "influencer ". I just think exactly what do these people influence ? Are they movers and shakers of the world? Do they influence business, politics, world economy ? Somebody help me please🧐🍿
They are rebranded sales people. The main difference is that most people before had a formal sales job to sell products, now anyone can sell them. The products can range from physical items to lifestyles to thoughts to emotions. Truly the real influencers should be like Greta and Malala who are influencing us to a greater cause and are selflessly in pursuit of this cause - we follow them because they are leaders. An influencer leads us closer to them and they are not selflessly in pursuit of a greater world - basically that's the difference between a leader, activist and an influencer. That's imo but hope that helps
I remember back in 2016 ish I used to be really into Good Mythical Morning and I loved how Rhett and Link dressed, I did realize as time went by that I was starting to dress like them with the button up dress shirt or T-shirt with jeans even though my style before was much more girly like pink/purple fun shaped blouses and tops, and I started to speak like them too. So the whole 'mimicking people you admire' thing is very true 😗
The oldest trick in the book is to keep telling someone they are not good enough or up to standard. So even if your a gorgeous woman I will tell you you are a seven to play mind games. A wise woman will see through that shit. They use these tactics on both genders in the workplace too.
Could also be enmeshment trauma that’s continuing into people’s adult lives. An example I can give of that is like when someone starts dating a new person and they become like that person suddenly.
I be in others comment section and I see alot of repeat comments it's annoying no one original anymore the comment section on youtube is like tiktok same ole same ole.
I had to take a step back and stop myself in em tracks. The moment I started seeing people calling him the Godfather! I was like hell no, I don’t do celebrities anyways so I definitely wasn’t going to give him a pass. Dude don’t know me, don’t pay my bills , won’t attend my funeral if I died today so why would I put these people on a pedestal.
Yess I’ve been noticed that too! Of course both men and women have flaws and need to be criticized because we are all human. It’s perfectly fine agreeing with someone’s opinion but a portion of KS fans uphold him to this Godlike standard, which is weird. These extreme fans are no different from the extreme Kpop fans, Beyhive fans, or any other extreme music fandom.
I wonder how much more common parasocial relationships are for introverts. I'm quite introverted so I spend a lot of time on RU-vid and mostly watching vlogs, because as per the video, it's like I know the people I'm watching. But I always wonder if I would even speak to the people I watch in real life because I don't have that large a circle as it is. These types of relationships really need some deep studies as I feel these are the types of issues we will see in our old age. A generation of people having a "relationship" which is completely one-sided and essentially some pixels on a screen with a speaker.
I recently met someone that was like 90% Kelly Stamps. There was little to convince me that it wasn't her other than the hairstyle and occupation. It made me wonder. Does she watch a lot of Kelly Stamps, is she secretly her or are there a lot of people that are like that and look like that
I would love to hear your views on the topic of being a 'pick me' in the context of dating and relationships. (I appreciate your non-binary thinking commentary 😊) I think nowadays people love to throw the word around especially at women - and sometimes it's not necessarily the case that woman is a pick me, it's just what she may have said or how she thinks is taken out of context
Sycophants in an echo chamber. It doesn't help that content creators can delete/remove dissenting or disagreeing opinions. Nice commentary. Lots to think about when self-monitoring what I'm watching.
Also reminds me of the Asch Conformity experiment where subjects knew that the lines everyone one else picked were wrong and still said that it was correct 🤦
I would love your take on handbag and shoe vs posting about things happening in the world. I shall give a good example to use i guess and that is Melissa’s Wardrobe and also Annie Drea cause they are folks who have been questioned 😭.
