The 2016 NBA free agency class completely broke the league, with big contracts being handed out due to a crazy cap spike, as well as Kevin Durant signing with the Golden State Warriors. #nba #freeagency #nbafreeagency
Grizzlies fan here, I was having a stellar day today, but seeing Chandler Parsons in a Grizzlies jersey has completely derailed that. Till this day I check Spotrac on a weekly basis out of paranoia that his contract is still on our books.
@@taylorsilver2566 yeah one of the best perimiter defenders in the league is definitely a liability, they should get rid off him for a second round draft pick. as a lakers fan i would sacrifice my franchise and take him.
salary cap jump was the main reason for KD going to gsw, but the warriors also had Steph on a really friendly contract that gave them even more leverage over other teams competing for KD. it was a perfect storm that really shouldn't have happened.
i always love when this channel uploads. super unbiased and comprehensive content that combines recent history with current analysis. keep up the great work ❤️
2016 free agency was a masterclass in mismanagement, all the GM's knew it was a one time spike in the salary cap yet most of them spent on roll players like the cap increase was coming every year.
The league should have smoothed out this cap a bit - 20% of anticipated in 2015 (early), half the actual in 2016, then the remainder in 2017. They knew this was coming. It shouldn’t have been that difficult
Nah, KD to Warriors was bigger. Bron to Miami was in today terms like if Embiid Luka and JJJ joined forces in one nobody team. KD to the Warriors is like if Luka went to the Bucks and they dont lose their core. It was sooo bs
If you read this it’s not meant to slander your videos. I do watch almost every video you make and do enjoy your topics. My suggestion to you it to try simplify what you’re saying, sometimes it feels like you get very repetitive on your topics and phrases. Otherwise keep up the grind, you’re killing it!
You didn't mention the weakest aspect of KD"s snake move to the warriors - Golden State had just knocked out OKC in the finals a couple months before he announced the move. Literally joining the team that beat him
I remember the Boston thing with Durant. If he had come here things would have been way different with the Celtics... LeBron probably would have had another ring as well with the warriors not being overpowered by Durant being on that team.
This Free Agency was so bad, it took years for these contracts to be paid off. Also a CC by the name of Urinatingtree also made a video on this FA class.
Oh man I remember this when they got the TV deal and seeing absurd names getting signed for huge contracts just for teams to use up their remaining cap. Trying to remember the white center that got like 24mill, and he was a total bum.
It will definitely gonna happen again when the next deal comes. Players are too greedy, they won't allow a soft salary cap regulation. Players don't give a damn about winning
Silver pushed for smoothing for 2016, but the players association refused to budge. How does washed up Joakim Noah to the Knicks for 4 years $72M not get a mention?
Let's Just Say The WARRIORS Beat The CAVS In 2016 & Repeat As Champions. Do You Think Kevin Durant Still Signs With The WARRIORS. I Remember The DUBS Parting Ways With Barnes (The Black Falcon), Ezili, Speights, Rush, Barbosa, & Bogut. Other Than Durant, The Warriors added centers Pachulia, & McGee, Power Forward West, Rookie Point Guard McCaw, & Small Forward Matt Barnes.
I call this offseason the "salary cap spike scam", which should be remembered in the same breath as the 85 lottery frozen envelope and Lebron's "The Decision". Yet another deliberate rigging of the system so the rich could get richer and so GSW could add Durant to an already stacked roster and fulfill the fetish that David Stern had on superteams...it killed the competitive balance of league for the next 4-5 years.
Kevin Durant ruined the parity in the league with that weak move to GS his legacy would've been more respected had he went to the Wizards and play with John Wall & Bradley Beal it would've created a new rivalry in the east against the Cavs with Lebron, Kyrie, & Love.......I think the best free agent from 2016 that could've join the Warriors besides KD is Al Horford, he's a stretch 5 that can shoot the 3 and present interior defense in the paint, he fits perfectly in Golden State system with impeccable ball movement as the 4th star of the team!
The NBA has finally been a lot of fun since pretty much 2019, those 3-4 years (2015-2018 roughly) were soooo boring for me considering everybody already knew that the finals was going to be pretty much the same two teams.
That's true. The west in 2017 didn't have that much contenders either and the warriors were dominating. The spurs didn't have kawhi and the rockets were with harden and their 2nd best player was ariza, the clippers injuries happened with griffin vs Utah
