I’ve been flying the Lear 60 for 22-years. It’s a great airplane. Our Principal bought it new in 1997. I’ve flown west coast to east coast non-stop with plenty of reserve fuel. No Hawaii though. Almost always a wet footprint heading to the islands. Although, I know a few pilots that live to tell the tale. East to west coast really depends on the winds. Unfortunately, the small wing limits you to a Mach of 0.76 cruise, red-lining at Mach 0.78, which makes it a challenge in mountain waves and turbulence in the low FL40’s. Flying at mid-to-upper 30,000 flight levels gives a higher cruise Mach with more room from red-line in mountain waves, but the trade-off is fuel burn. However, the Lear 60 fuel burn is nothing compared to the other two airplanes I fly, the Gulfstream IV and G550. Both Gulfstream carry more fuel than the Lear 60 weighs with full fuel. Bottom line, The Lear 60 is the Lamborghini of corporate jets. Great airplane to fly and a comfortable airplane to ride with 5 or less pax. Good interview. You hit the highlights. Now set 3-clicks for takeoff power and feel the acceleration of those Pratt 305A Turbofans kick-in! It leaves a great first impression!

I have heard this is one of the most difficult planes to fly. Is this true? Also do you think the 60xr is a easier plane to fly?

How much of a difference between the 60 and 60XR??
@skytech5
@skytech5 2 года назад
@@studinthemaking Performance wise, no difference. The 60XR has an upgraded avionics suite. The classic LR60 came with the Collins Proline 4 avionics. The LR60XR was upgraded with the Collins Proline 21 avionics. The 60XR engines had a FADEC upgrade as well.

@@skytech5 I thought the performance was also increased on that model. After the upgrade. my dad use to fly Learjets. They are the best. Too bad they stop making them this year.

Are any of the 60 variants able to do cross country trips like DCA to LAX? Assume 4 pax load out.

I flew the 60 way back before the simulator was certified. We replaced a 55c with it. I agree that with the same wing but more weight the performance suffers. If I remember right the XR is heavier with the same gross weight. Good 4 pax airplane to the east coast but the other way depends on wind and exactly where you are going. BOS to LAX, probably not but Richmond to Vegas should be ok. I have done 5:40 with 4 pax but the conditions were perfect and VFR.
