@@jakob7211 but if they disrespected me first, then I will turn the other cheek I will use what ever ammo they wanna give to me against them and if you think that's out of anger you are wrong, that is to get them to see their shortcomings and rise above it, that is the essence of masculinity, create, train, protect. Anyone who sees this as negative is because they are the polar opposite, their internal desire can only be destroy, neglect, and harm others.

The Swedish school situation sounds like a surreal fever dream. I couldn't imagine growing up, being forced to be feminine. I'm concerned for the girls as well, being forced to be masculine. That sounds like a sure-fire way to cause at least some confusion, if not lifelong problems.
@foxxer64

As a swede, this situation is the dumbest thing i have ever seen in my life. thankfully I was born 17 years too early for this to effect me. These "gender specialists" are just batshit crazy people who are extremely toxic to the youth of our country. Also the gender specialists are just women above the age of 50 who have no idea how to treat a child.

I actually had an experience with this not long ago, when my girlfriend ridiculed me and my friends for being competitive in school and sports because we enjoy it and it's in our nature, but she insisted that we are 'just upsetting people' and that it wasn't masculinity. I then proceeded to mention how most guys I know are the same but sadly she just insulted me fore generalising people of my own gender even though I was just pointing out common traits. The last thing was that she told me to give up on competition entirely because winning may upset the losers, which basically meant I had to give up on what I wanted to do in life. Long story short I broke up with her over this.
@strom9996
@strom9996 3 года назад

I actually get a lot of shit for having a competitive nature too, nothing wrong with it, as long as we're not being assholes I don't see why people get all hurt about it
@davidlee7676
@davidlee7676 3 года назад
@@3therea11 I personally believe that toxic masculinity exists but I don't understand why people are saying that masculinity in general is toxic. Masculinity is a good thing and is an essential part of society. I think the real toxic masculinity isn't about the things he's talking about. My definition is shaming other men for not acting "masculine" obviously there isn't anything wrong with acting extremely masculine but shaming someone for not being masculine is wrong. There's also things that society states isn't masculine even though it has nothing to do with any non masculine traits. Things like makeup, skincare, and fashion have nothing to do with masculine or feminine traits whatsoever. The true toxic masculinity isn't acting masculine but it's shaming others for not acting masculine and telling others that something that isn't masculine or feminine isn't masculine. And to the people that think that masculinity is toxic in general just remember that there are no sexist feminists there are only sexists that think they're feminists.
@3therea11
@3therea11 3 года назад
@@davidlee7676 Yeah exactly, there' nothing wrong with masculinity or femininity, they're just descriptions of traits people have, and while some of these can be toxic socially, they're not exclusive to one or the other. Some people are just assholes, really.
@nnogen5697
@nnogen5697 3 года назад
well, it seems like you either wanted a form of advice or just wanted to share your story. so yeah, your ex was being a little irrational and I personally sense there was another issue maybe going on at the time seeing as its kinda an odd thing to argue over. and you made the right call breaking up with her. competition can cause upset for some, but that doesn't mean you should give up entirely. masculinity isnt clear cut though. people who are masculine arent the same nor are the way they express being masculine. so generalising people by having common traits can come off as maybe too deterministic in nature. still, dont give up on school or sports man, liking them doesn't make you toxic

Toxic masculinity is such a loosely used term that it could be used for anything these days. I have been called "toxic" because I enjoy things like strength sports and lifting weights. A friend of mine was called toxic for simply being nice by holding the door for someone. It's a term that has no true meaning, but is up to the interpretation of the lunatic using it and by people who may find a masculine hobby threatening or intimidating out of fear or lack of understanding. I prefer the term "douchbag" because that can fit both men and woman.

personally, i feel the problem is they got it backward. people who are being kind to women are treated like this now but it should be the people who are rude to men and only nice to women. we shouldn't fix this by teaching everyone to be rude and uncaring to women as well as men but instead to show this kindness to both men and women. like the whole thing about holding a door open for a lady and how its considered sexist to do that maybe instead just hold the door open for people whether male or female and whether you're male or female as a better kinder form of equality.

The roads of the US (the major ones that connect us) were ancient causeways groomed by Native American cultures. (source - "An Indiginous Peoples' History of the US" by Dunbar-Ortiz) ... But that aside, men are wonderful. Beacons of hard work and the fruits it bears, among other things. However there is an ugly underbelly, as is so with femininity ~ we (women) just haven't had enough power for that to matter very much, beyond in personal life. Women have contributed so much to this society that has gone unnoticed (for better or worse, like a glue holding it together in the bloodbath of colonization, always silently advancing us forward socially, intellectually, and personally). That story, of women, has been retold and reshaped, and stained with shame and degradation as a control tactic. The shaping of our mutual story by men (literally "his"tory) has had profound negative consequences for many people, as groups of people have been defined by rich and powerful ruling men. So yes, we are questioning and demanding to rewrite these definitions. Examining why, and how they came to be. It is okay for us all to acknowledge the negative impact of a male dominated story, so we can grow past it in a new direction. Progress and growth are not easy. There is so much pain and hardship, isolation, brutality, and shame that this male-dominated society has unnecessarily woven into all of our lives, through control of our mutual perspective. (Education, history, and media). This is where I stand, wanting spiritual freedom and the removal of banal limitations for all people. Imagine what we would be capable of, imagine how beautiful life could be. All this said - hard work is necessary. Self discipline and grit are necessary. The warrior spirit is native to this planet. These are qualities that I see as archetypical of healthy* masculinity. But BALANCE is necessary, as many ancient wisdoms affirm. As is obvious, if you look at the bigger picture, and if you look plainly into yourself. Balance of the "masculine" and "feminine" polarity, and a healthy relationship between the two.

What exactly was wrong with the Gillette Ad? It only makes a couple of points: - One is that real men shouldn't bully others or excuse such behavior as "Boys will be Boys." What are you all upset about. Do you really support bullying? - Two is that real men do NOT cat-call, whistle at, or harass women. Real men should stand up to that behavior and tell them that it is not cool. We live in the era of #MeToo, do you really think that slapping a woman on the ass is appropriate behavior these days. Sorry to break it to you guys but toxic masculinity is a thing. As far as I am concerned the ad didn't go far enough. Just look at the prison population. It is 90 percent men. Almost 100% rapes are committed by men. We have a man problem in this country. Boys are broken and need to be fixed. It is not the 20th century anymore, this is not the jungle nor is it the Wild West. We can do better as a species. The future is female and men will be left out of that future if they don't change their ways and stop being a bunch of toxic jerks. The idea that we need ultra masculine men to "protect us" from other bad men is a logical fallacy akin to a mafia protection racket. We wouldn't need "protection" if toxic men didn't exist. It is like the people who argue they want to own machine guns and military grade assault rifles because other bad men and criminals have those guns. Likewise they say we need more toxic men to protect us from other toxic men. Yeah sure. Men are the cause of and solution to all of life's problems.

@Novusand I'm only going to address one point you made as it's 7am here as I type & I need sleep. (so please forgive any spelling or grammar mistakes, I'm really sleepy). As I said in another comment here, I'm a trans woman so have seen things from both sides. You make several good points but I must contest the claim you made that "almost 100% of rapes are committed by men". What follows is from the perspective of UK law, I don't know where I the world you live so your local laws may differ: In the UK rape is defined as forceful penetration with a penis. The law here is very clear that if no penis is involved then it is not rape. A woman could force or drug a man & penetrate him without consent using a sex toy & it would not be rape, it would be tried under "sexual assault" which carries a lighter sentence. If a woman drugged a man to force him into non consentual sex then it still is not rape. In the UK a woman cannot be tried for rape even if the person they take advantage of is under 16 & not legally able to give consent. Until this legal loophole is closed & UK law treats both men & women as equal then it is not fair or correct to cite percentages of convictions as proof of which gender commits the most sex crimes. If this law ever gets made equal then I strongly suspect that men will be found to be responsible for a higher percentage of sex crimes but until the law treats everyone equally percentages cannot be accurate.

@@yeahheyyayya4745 Well, homophobia could be literally translated as such, since phobia does indeed mean fear. While the intended meaning is "hatred and averse toward homosexuals". But frankly the same is almost certainly not the case for "toxic masculinity". The whole concept is based on the idea that some traits and norms associated with masculinity are inherently "toxic". Even self-reliance and repression of emotions are labeled as toxic, since they allegedly promote violence.

@jmccoomber1659 2 года назад
"Masculinity does far more good than bad for everyone, both men and women" - what a fabulous and undeniably true observation!! Women who act as if men - and masculinity - are superfluous are deluding themselves. Sadly, the rise of militant feminism has resulted in men feeling as though they're unnecessary. Too many women who profess to believe the t-shirt slogan "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle." end up raising fatherless children with no positive male role models. Humans were meant to pair up and share child-rearing responsibilities, and typically that pair is made up of a male and a female. Arguably this is the best way to rear children who will grow up to become well-rounded adults, especially if they've witnessed the positive, loving interaction of their parents throughout their formative years. Studies show girls raised without a father often chose terrible partners, and boys raised without a father more often become terrible partners. Of course there are exceptions but this proves the rule. Men think like men because their brain is different than the female brain in function and structure, and we need to champion this instead of trying to change it...especially since it is biologically immutable. Sensitivity and caring are not solely feminine traits, nor are courage and assertiveness solely masculine. But trying to make men act less masculine is a fool's errand, and truly DAMAGING to humanity, as Aaran so succinctly explains in this awesome presentation.

I’ve yet to meet any male or female who actually believes the shit you see online. Bots and agents of fictional identities. Yeah, plenty of real people too - ages 12-25. Their opinions are no more impactful on society in the real world as a worm’s opinion. Except the idea is to drive people toward conservatism out of frustration. So don’t worry. I've been in moments where I've tried to help others, but have been just looked at with disgust due to my gender. All my life I was raised to treat people with the utmost kindness and respect, however hearing people undermine me due to me being a male sucks, I once had a dream to work at weddings, I love decorating and cooking and all that stuff so I really wanted to be apart of that, but after working at a wedding place a couple of times I gave it up, at the time I was a decorator and helped design dresses, I was a teenager at the time so i had all the time to work on that craft. The amount of times I heard "Oh dont listen to him, hes a man, and not even gay" or have people go and talk to a women that didnt know anything about what they wanted only because I was a man, it devastated me. Soon after I gave up on designing and wanting to a part of weddings. Recently I dated this girl and he family was in that business, and I decided that I wanted to give it another try, one of the days i worked there I remeber hearing a woman telling her friend that they didnt want to "Ask a man cause he probably was clueless" and it hurt a lot. I gave up on it again. These arent the only times I've given up on something due to my "Maleness" something I cant change, I've given up on designing clothes, dresses, one of which I actually made for my sister for prom and everyone kept making jokes about how bad it must've been, I gave up on make up, hair and some forms of art. It's kinda funny now cause a lot of people mistake me for a woman with a mask, but when they find out I'm a guy, they treat me differently, hell the most sexism I've experienced in the past year was due to female coworkers saying how much they hated men and that all men do certain things. My coworker now believes all men want sex all the time, that all men masturbate vigorously, and that all men are aggressive, hell shes believes that if a women says no women friends then you should stop being friends with a women, and if you have female friends you are probably fucking them or wanting to fuck them and that having one is a red flag unless your gay. She even comments when me and another coworker talk about women saying "it's funny seeing you guys talk about women considering you both arent" like men cant have empathy or know how social constructs work or have a simple understanding of basic human decency. It's really shitty and it genuinely fuckin sucks. I've experienced other men telling me to "Man up" and honestly it was for the better, I was a rather sensitive person and if they wouldnt have been more hard on me I'd probably never be able to live in society today, I'm still a gentle person but I'm not as sensitive to insults, which works cause honestly sometimes I wish I wasnt a man, the worst part being that sometimes I dont feel right in my body, I feel like since I'm more gentle and on the feminine side I shouldnt be in a mans body, I dont desire to be a woman, but I also sometimes am tired of having to be what people think is a man. It sucks. Seeing people walk past me as I'm struggling in every way, having past partners discredit my opinions cause im a man, having my feelings on them doing something they knew I wasnt comfortable with being seen as controlling, and being beaten and then having people ask what I did to deserve it.. sometimes I just wish that i wasnt born the way i was cause it sucks, and it hurts, and it doesnt stop hurting. I have a son, and I genuinely hope he turns out to be nothing like me cause his life will be easier that way.

I'm so sorry that you had to go all through this. People shaming you for doing your job because you like it, is very disheartening. Most of the people misinterpret what masculinity is and that is what you have faced till now. Each person is born different and has different interests, hobbies, opinions and a way of life. And you also lived your life that way. I assure you that there's nothing wrong in it. I won't say you not to care about what other people say, because I know that in the end we all are humans, who feel hurt because of active or passive shaming, insults, bullying, etc. I will say that you must not regret for you, being yourself. You are not the one at fault for being passionate about your work, hobbies and other things. You have never been at fault for having feelings, emotions, kindness, and compassionate behaviour. If you are true to yourself, you must never give up. The society and the people are at fault for treating you like this. My friend, don't regret for being born like that because I feel like you are a wonderful person. I will say again, always be true to yourself, and never give up. People will say many things; get back at them, so that they hesitate for commenting on you. It will take some time, courage and determination, but it is the thing that will give you confidence, morale boost and a feel of comfort. And as for your son, give him a proper education and give him proper life advices time to time, teach him how to differentiate between good and bad, treat him good and don't shame him for his mistakes, rather try to understand him. Restriction and protection is needed but try not overdo it. Listen to him too.Your relationship with him will not be always perfect, but your teachings and his understanding will make a balanced and healthy relationship between you two. I don't how old he is but all this will make him a great man with his utmost repect for you and he will be or is proud to have a father like you. I hope I could comfort you you with my trivial words and encouragement. Have a nice day!

Don't let them belittle who you are and give them the privilege to effect your mood and how you feel. We are the only persons who can directly dictate how we feel. But by what you're saying those little girls know nothing of what it is to be stoic, brave, loyal, noble and strong. I also have both feminine and masculine traits. We all do. And I embrace both. I can be savage and daring but I can also be compassionate and caring. Be authentic and show your best self. And a good way to start that is by starting to practice stoicism and self improvement. Become stronger everyday and inspire that strength to your kid and everyone around you! We need strength more than ever! Fight for strength! Fail better everyday! Do not let any woman or man child belittle your efforts and make you feel bad! Do not fear failure! Greatness from small beginnings.

Like you mentioned, people may like stuff that you or others around you may judge as shitty, and you can learn much more when broadening the exposure, even though sometimes people or trolls may judge you harshly. At least you wouldn't be stuck with a bunch of children's mentality. Use every situation as a lesson to your advantage, and keep doing what you love! It hurts the soul to see this child abuse going on in schools in Sweden. I can't imagine a sane person approving this curriculum. What could possibly be the positive outcome?
@Linda-pk3fz
@Linda-pk3fz 4 года назад
As a swedish women, I am seriosly scared of what this is doing and will do to men in the future, its so important that men grow up with good father figures that shows the good sides of musculinity. Sadly many swedish women are naive and brainwashed, its truly sad. I think this experiment will hurt society a lot, just like the big immigration from africa and middle east. I think it will likely produce either very soft and uncompetive men who will off course fail to attract females and probably become very unsocial and then we have those men who will grow up to hate women for this man-shaming ideology and and form some countermovement (already seen in MGTOW-movements).
@peir77
@peir77 4 года назад
@@Linda-pk3fz And as a Swedish woman, you see this. Who are the ones that do not see this and what is their reasoning or motives? I agree with everything you said and it will also produce incels and very confused men. How is this helpful to society?

I always understood the concept of "toxic masculinity" as societal pressure on man to be traditionally manly - not as man beeing toxic. As an example: fathers not beeing able to say "I love you" to their children in order of not beeing vulnerable or man feeling unable to open up about sexual harassment, feeling like they should have wanted it anyway is toxic masculinity at its best, putting man not in the role of the aggressor but as the victim of toxic masculinity.
@maryamalammary
@maryamalammary Год назад
yeah and that's it i don't think anyone's refuting men & women are biologically different? because that's out of the argument 🤷‍♂️ it's the reason why men suicide rates are so high. men don't speak about their mental health because that's being 'weak' & for some reason 'weak' goes hand in hand with 'feminity' which is just wrong. not speaking about how u feel & just suppressing your emotions will eventually lead to suicide! that's toxic masculinity. Literally no one's says being 'masculine' is 'bad'
@GamingOnABout
@GamingOnABout Год назад
@@maryamalammary it's kind of short sighted to blame all suicide rates on men not expressing their feelings, because "it looks weak". Men in general just don't get the same support in everyday life has women do, and it doesn't help that most men growing up are touch and empathy starved without even knowing it, all the way well into adulthood. I was completely shaken up by one friend of mine who gives people hugs before and after hanging out with people. After a year of knowing her, she had hugged me more times than everyone combined in my entire life before hand, I had no idea how to handle my emotions, was completely unprepared, and at first it honestly really scared me. She really put into prospective what a good supportive friend is like. I've since slowly grown a lot as a person, have acquired many more amazing friends, and have learned how to open up more, but not every guy is lucky like me to have that warming experience. Being a man can be a very cold, incredibly isolating, despondent, and lonely experience, while being all painfully normalized to the point a lot of men don't even know HOW to be vulnerable to begin with. I for a long time didn't, nor even understood it was suppose to be a "normal" thing.
@maryamalammary
@maryamalammary Год назад
@Blaize m yes you're certainly correct, & that's toxic masculinity. Toxic masculinity can be boiled down to BUT NOT ONLY anything a man 'can't do' simply because it's 'feminine'. Men's mental health is a joke, no one cares about it because everyone just expects a man to be a 'man' which merely wrong & here you experienced it 1st hand. You're supposed to be able to hug and talk to your men friends always, not only women friends. I had a dude vent to me about his break up after 2 years & he told me how he couldn't talk to his friends about it because he was just supposed to 'get over it' ??????? that's toxic masculinity, why don't men emotionally support their friends? u should be able to talk about these topics with your men friends without it being 'cheesy' or 'sensitive' another example i see 2nd hand is when my younger brother cries & is immediately told to stop because boys don't cry from my father ? my brother loves cars, but he also likes mlp (my little pony) though he is also 'embarrassed' to tell his friends he does because it's 'girly' you're right all these complications are PLANTED into men through out to adulthood which IS WRONG; that's toxic masculinity. The dude in the vid completely missed the point of toxic masculinity, men aren't toxic but THEYRE told from childhood to be emotionless, are not provided with a support system which results in toxic masculinity. Just like you & any other man really who is willingly open to improve & grow will hopefully be able to learn that toxic masculinity is wrong 👍you need to be provided the resources, from other men & not only women.

One of the few videos that actually explain what masculinity truly is and doesn't try to make it seem like some kind of evil thing inherent to all men because the creators didn't bother to look through 5 pages of an actual research study and instead decided to follow the drama train that is modern society's response to men being men. Amazing vid, keep up the good work.
