Mclaren engineer: everyone is on soft or medium tires, no one has hard on. Lando: barely contains laughter over radio I cannot wait to have both lando and riccardo on the same team lol
the lapped cars saved Albon, since Perez would've so easily passed him when he first caught up had Albon not had DRS. Then Perez's momentum was sort of lost, and his tyres likely lost some performance over the couple laps with traffic.
He was behind Albon for so long within DRS range for over 5 laps after the lapped cars had been passed and he still never managed to get past, I think Alex just had a little too much pace on the straights.
7:09 Honestly I believe people forget how good Max and the Mercedes are, to say Albon coming home in 4th is a "Gasly-performance". The Mercedes and Max are leading the pack, which means under normal circumstances the podium places are already taken. That means Albon should hold 4th under normal circumstances and be ready to pounce, if Max or the Mercedes make a mistake. It's true that the gap between Albon an Verstappen was large, but in terms of race position Albon got the expected result.
He's not saying Albon should have finished higher than fourth, he's saying Albon should have been closer to Verstappen considering they're driving the same car.
I'm sure they would have liked Albon to have finished closer, but remember they replaced Gasly because he _didn't_ finish 4th. Gasly's underperformance was costing him places and Red Bull points. Albon got his elbows out enough to finish where he needed to at least.
Honestly, I thought the race was pretty good. There was a battle going on for the entire race. Battles all over the track, and some pretty good racing.
Yes I agree, I don't know why everyone was saying the race was boring. It was enjoyable, as was Austria for different reasons. Austria was fun because it was wet and chaotic and Styria was fun because I felt there were more enjoyable battles and watching Perez's charge, Verstappen overtaking Bottas and Lando's last lap comeback was amazing.
yeah me too. it was one of the best races in terms of anticipation. I felt the deltas were constantly falling mainly from Perez and Bottas on verstappen but my god the fights between Racing Point, McLaren and Renault were insane majority of that race.
Hey Matt! A honnest comment to tell you that I really appreciated your live commentary this week end, especially for the F2 races. You seemed very comfortable and knew what you were talking about. If I didn't knew you with this channel before, I would have almost assumed that you are a professionnal commentator :p
Congrats Matt on the commentary gig. When I started the F2 race and he said joined by Matthew Gallagher I was like WHATTT. A little sad you didn't throw a "This is just amazing!" or "Great, Super, Excellent" in there but I understand. We are a looong way from F1 Rock 'n Racing boys.
I did enjoy your commentary with Alex on Formula 2. Well deserved too because you really are passionate, which is something I appreciate. I hope that won't be the last time. :)
Don't have F1tv sadly BUT did listen to you and Alex on the F2 and I think you Did an awesome job, you both have similar humour and bounced off each other well and you were professional but kept that humour and that is always something great and considering you were sat for a good hour with nothing to commentate in the F2 feature race alone and did a brilliant job of filling. I personally feel you should be the co-commentator full time!
I know it was F2, but the RC box that delivers the trophies to the social distancing podiums HAS to become a meme, that was so hilarious when it failed half way to the driver in 1st.
It's crazy to think about how much Matt has grown in recent years. From xMattyG to our favorite F1 channel host and also commentating on the VGPs an F2 race. The second Alex Jacques said Matt Gallagher, I jumped ten feet in the air. Matt to F1 commentary confirmed?
Matt: prepare for this bcs theres alot of Ferrari memes Everyone: legend has it Matt had a mental breakdown for leclerc crashing out several times and had to have over 30 outtakes
I couldn't believe my ears when I tuned into F2 but it really was you, Matt! Too bad I fell asleep while waiting for the red flag to go away lol. Way past my bed time.
Sergio Perez should be racing next to Hamilton at Mercedes. He’s just entering his athletic prime and he’s showing he belongs in a top tier car. Just glad RP is giving him a good car to drive.
Um hes 30 years old and he’s in his athletic prime? have you seen how many sloppy mistakes he’s made in his career? particularly with Ocon at Force India and Button at Mclaren. He also proved it again at the end of the race when he hit Albon and lost his wing.
@@danielmoss7133 He hit albon because he did a desperate divebomb to get past him. He wasn't tactically thinking about whether or not he would wreck his front wing. I think he's generally a very reliable drierv aside from that
Love how the editor took the piss for Matt taking so many chances at the Race Rundown...and then missed that they used the Non-Finishers graphic for both the list of non-finishers AND the list of finishers.
McLaren 2013 “a little bit terrible” is understatement. Literally zero podiums, and Perez was beating Buttton on track even after he found out he was leaving the team
3:39 can someone edit mat getting slightly more french after every 'oui' he says. Maybe a french mustache to start and ending with like a baguettes under his arms.
