IN THEATRES JANUARY 13, 2012
THE IRON LADY is a surprising and intimate portrait of Margaret Thatcher (Meryl Streep), the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century's most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.
Cast: Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent, Harry Lloyd

MY MEMORY OF THATCHER When I was a young boy I would like to sketch in front of the television while my parents watched the evening news. There was a clip of the Prime Minister and President Reagan sitting on a bench in a garden before a meeting. The press was bought in for a photo op and began shouting questions and snapping photos in a torrent . By that time , the president seemed to be in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease and appeared to be staring into the distance, basically checking out. One of the reporters yelled out "what are you going to discuss at the meeting!?" Thatcher glanced at a disinterested Regan and then replied emphatically " we don't discuss the discussions, BEFORE they are discussed " Regan immediately reengaged and looked at Thatcher with a big smile of amusement 😆

I find it alarming how many people feeling a need to comment are confusing a movie with reality. Not even in her self-aggrandizing memoirs does she paint herself as the dominant lion. She understood that she had male colleagues and subordinates who knew more than her about the art of war. She listened to them respectfully, and then made the call. But really, this commentary about how she had to corral weak willed men is fantasy. Not even she would have agreed.

Margaret Thatcher obviously was a controversial, but very strong and ambitious person. Probably her politics were sometimes too violent, nevertheless she made other states respect the Great Britain. This movie mostly shows her positive qualities, such as capacity of being a leader and her psychological force, which she shows while communicating with men and making important decisions... As for the film itself, I personally liked that they included some chronicle frames and made the screenplay out of a kind of "memories". The idea of showing different time layers seems interesting to me.

I love biographical films. Good biographical films even more. Frankly, for a very long time my hands did not reach watching this film, but the love of Meryl Streep overpowered me. The Iron Lady in Russia was named the first woman British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, who ruled the country in the 80s. And this film tells the viewer her story from childhood to the sunset of her life. Together with Margaret, the viewer experiences those emotions that she experienced throughout her difficult journey. Disappointment and joy pursued her step by step, as well as insanely complex decisions. The story of this woman inspires and makes you believe in yourself, which is much more than you might think before watching this film. He motivates to raise himself and do at least something on the way to his dream, which is undoubtedly a plus of the film. I would like to note how many positive emotions this picture gave me. Meryl Streep was so strongly dissolved in the image of Margaret that sometimes I simply did not recognize her. On the screen in front of me was another woman who broadcast the most real emotions. For me, “Iron Lady” is a story not just about a politician, but about a real person who heroically copes with all life attacks. An incoherent story, in my opinion, has a certain charm in the fact that the story is not conducted linearly, but with excerpts from life. Despite everything that was listed above, it cannot be denied that this film is not for wide screens and not everyone will like it, which explains its relatively low ratings.

She studied the briefs in so much detail, she often knew more about a ministers remit than they did. She was extremely hard working and pragmatic when it came to Britain's place in the European arena. However, her actions decimated thousands maybe even tens of thousands of families in the UK without a proper transition away from inefficient industries subsidised by the exchequer, and her obstinance was a double-edged sword. She affected my life directly, and I am who I am today because of her pulling the rug out, so to speak. Many women in the comments calling this "girl power" is rather wrong. I do admire Magaret Thatcher greatly, but she rose to power because of her intelligence, determination and iron will. Most feminists nowadays want to gain power because they play the gender card or the "patriarchy" card, which is pathetic. Learn from this woman, to rise to power on your own abilities and not on your sex.
@TuomariMuller
@TuomariMuller 5 лет назад
That's not what girl power means, at least not to me. I don't know which comments you are referring to so I can't say anything about them, but for me girl power is the strength of a female individual who has succeeded despite the lack of trust the society has on her. Unfortunately gender still is a social construct that makes things more difficult than they might be without it, so I don't have the luxury of forgetting it. It's pushed down my throat almost every day and I do live in a quite equal society. Our success or lack of it is not solely based on our gender, but it still has an impact on our lives.
@LifeAdmiral
@LifeAdmiral 5 лет назад
@@TuomariMuller Thatcher was a Tory. Not Labour. Not Lib Dem. I find that it's important to note that a party such as the Conservatives would be the one to first let a woman lead them rather than socially progressive parties such as both Labour and Lib Dem, even back in the 80's. Also, you live in an equal society, but not an equitable one. An equal society gives you the chance to succeed on merit and yes, gender may have a role in it. An equitable society would be one that judges you on being a woman rather than being an individual with merit. Be happy you don't live in an equitable society; it would be hell on earth.

The movie is good but it does not focus very much on the negatives with old Thatcher. I expected it though with Hollywood. But the movie paints her in a more positive manner in my view. Which in Britain she is not looked on by many as having a positive effect on much. Some policies? Maybe. Others? Definitely not. The bad outweighed the good with Maggie and I hope she has found a neat corner in hell to rot. If there is a hell. I don't believe in religion so probably not.

Margaret Thatcher may seem as a cold and individualist personality but we can not deny the fact that she became the leader of a nation after being an outsider for a long time. She learned to raise up in front of those who didn't support her, and even though she wasn't the best leader she still has got her place in history by being the first woman prime minister. Her strength made angry more than one and the opinions about her are often devided but in this film we get to know a strong powerful woman that had the courage and ambition to become what she wanted. In my opinion, no matter what mistakes we can make, nobody's perfect and we should always see the positive side of people that tried the best for our nations.
