Oh that marshal drum beat was steadily holding the tension in Ravel’s Bolero, a really unique, cool classical piece-which is where that segment comes from! In a later solo album Walsh did a piece from Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite! The last segment is from-crap! Just lost his name but a fantastic jazz tune from the guy who did the Linus & Lucy tune from the original Peanuts Christmas special.
The James Gang features Joe Walsh on vocals and guitar, who would later go on to bring a rock-guitar edge to The Eagles. He also performed with Barnstorm (check out a live version of 'Turn to Stone') and had a solo career as well. The James Gang reformed recently to perform three songs, including this one, at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert.

Right ON BROTHER!! This came out when I was in like 2nd grade & a cousin gave it to a year later. Rides Again is the foundation of my rock pantheon!! The entire album was wall to wall greatness! As much as Joe’s guitar was soaring to transcendent heights, in THIS song, the rhythm section of Peters & Fox was on FIRE! All those beautiful drum fills & fantastic cymbals work with the moving but in the pocket bass are still among my all time favorites! So glad you dove into this, not many reactions to this one. WELL DONE SIR! And the journey continues! 👊🥂
This song, except for the Bolero section, is an improv of a famous jazz piano song called, Cast Your Fate Into the Wind. That song was by Vince Guaraldi who also wrote the music for Charlie Browns X-Mas. Listen to Cast Your Fate Into the Wind and then relisten to this.
