The last notes he plays during the fade-out are for me the most breathtaking. I wish I could hear what happens after that, if they had the original without the fade out.

I was On the shrooms listening to along the watch tower I look out my window I see Jimi Hendrix face made by the tree branches very trippy I felt like I was going to heaven

yes I get that, I remember similar impressions, the phased drum roll ushers in that cloud-like, rumbling, windy feeling and it does take off, increases in phasing and altitude up into the skies, and drifts slowly away like Hendrix is in a ship made of guitars and pink/lavender ribbons twirling and whipping in the winds up in the ionosphere. The notes are so tremolo'ed and nailed, so dramatic.

When I heard it, I was looking at a GD tapestry and the mandala pattern rose up and down like a storm cloud into itself in a spiraling blend. For me the phasing gave it all a 3D effect and the pure emotional bending in that last solo pushed the center of that mandala up into infinity... Hendrix is the only artist I ever experienced that could appear as a full apparition without ever being present ✌

I had the same experoence when i first heard this song. Ive loved the album since the first time i heard it, but i had never hear the final masterpiece.

Might be the best, most powerful riffing that Hendrix did in the studio...but some of his live stuff is also amazing, without studio effects!

the most damned beautiful thing my ears have ever heard, I can not even imagine what it would have been like to have been there while it is being laid down...Eddie is Jimi's spirit animal, I'm convinced.

this guy went to Woodstock w/ no idea what kind of recording equipment he'd find,( and surely was dissapointed )or what kind of a crowd he'd find,and after sorting thru a thousand wires and recorders/whatever under the stage, he goes out and sees the crowd. holy shit .he recorded all of that music for 3,4 days.

THESE 2 CATZ, ( Jonez & Mitchell ) LOVED PLAYING DRUMZ! Mitch Mitchell, knowing da stuff he knew - ( milez byond most Rock drummerz - or Jimiz otha drummer, Buddy Milez - who played sum great stuff, azz well, tho. ) wuz hella tasteful, n his playing. I have seen nterviewz, where he lamentz his xcitement, causing him 2 rush a tune, on da ARE YOU EXPERIENCED album, BUTT 2 me, his playing wuz xquisite. Eddie's an old English music Wizard, that Album wouldn't have sounded the same without him, chemistry has a lot to do with it.

+holden meisner Mitchel on drums really challenged Hendrix to go further, they played off each other.Absolutely tremendous drummer, listen to the flamenco style beat changes on House Burnin Down, he was something else.

Mitchell, according to interviewers and a few musicians (including Redding) was rather stuck up, and snobbish...He would remind Noel that he had been a child star on British TV, and was also from a somewhat higher "class"....but we have to remember, these guys were quite young when they joined up with Jimi...Mitchell was barely 20, and Redding was 21....Jimi had just turned 24, but had had very much experience compared to the other two....in fact, I think the choice of name "The Experience", was just perfect!

the first time I ever heard lead guitar playing shooting left to right and stopping in the middle for an instant or two ,was when I listened to 'Bold as Love'.and the sheer audio power of the lead playing fade out is equivalent to seeing the Saturn 5 lift off. 'awesome' was a word not yet overused in the 60's, and that's what this record was!!

BTW, I'm not sure about where that rocket ended up eventually, so let's not go there.

Eddie is proud of every thing Jimi, and he made Jimi's genious, EVEN BOLDER!!!

He recorded 3 studio albums and one live album which he didn't want to do But he was in debt to a music manager in the states for breach of contract. This live album was called band of gypsys

@profnasty People who knew Jimi mostly say that he would not have wanted all that post-mortem music to be released, as it was nearly all not really completed, or approved by Jimi.

Yet look at us talking about those albums all these years later, maybe thats all our mortal minds deserve from Jimi is 3 records that changed music forever!

3 studio albums and 1 live album, but he recorded constantly. He left enough material behind for 25 more albums. It's not really commercially viable stuff, but it provides a much deeper insight.

+Patrick B The Engineer never gets enough credit. As what George Martin did for the Beatles Kramer did for Hendrix. They made those great bands better! Than you had Brian Wilson who was the Producer,The writer,the engineer The arranger! I had the pleasure of jamming (I played drums) with Buddy Miles(Buddy played his strat with the American flag on it) and we talked about Jimi. Buddy was living in my neck of the woods back in the early 90s. He told me Jimi was tired of the Blues! Jimi was always looking to grow as musician.

***** Oh please.. .Buddy Guy is just jealous of Jimi's iconic status.. Buddy Guy only wishes he could stand anywhere near Jimi's level of talent..Buddy Guy always tries exposing Jimi as just a average Guitar player who stole everybody else's ideas.. That's jealousy and totally egotistical ..Jimi's music is absolutely timeless and Buddy Guy sure cant claim that..

+PRE CBS STRATOCASTER'S I was speaking of Buddy Miles from Band of Gypsies!!!!!! Buddy Miles was a pretty competent guitarist as well which is what he played when we did Them changes,down by the river,Midnight rider etc etc at a jam session back in the early 90s.Hendrix was burned out on the blues and he would still smoke all these so called blues icons. Ill bet he would have went in a jazzier direction had he lived longer! Indeed Hendrix's music will live forever. Buddy Guy on the other hand is all hype. For pure blues give me Freddie King,Roy Buchanan or Albert King along with some local cats in Chicago and Hammond Indiana who happen to be world class blues players. Buddy Guy has a club in Chicago. I have gone there on several occasions. I never said a word to him and vice versa. He sure kisses Clapton's ass that's for sure......

Yah, there was definitely a good vibe in the team. Of course, it's probably hard not to have the best artistic instincts in you pulled out when you're working with a giant like Jimi Hendrix.

The best Hendrix stuff was not played on radio...it was considered too Heavy/druggie.

Micheal, You *must* watch all of Jimi playing Woodstock live, August 18th, 1969! That was the greatest live rock performance in the history of the world. Pay close attention at his virtuosity when Jimi plays "Purple Haze". It's not of this world. He taps into the mind of God, and demonstrates something that is not humanly possible. He brings a message from the deepest part of the cosmos for those on Earth to understand we are all made from love particles of distant exploding super-novas. 🌌

He wasn't just ahead of his time, man. He was ahead of our time, too. People 100 years from now will still be scratching their heads listening to his music.

It's on the purple boxset first released in 2000 and it is absolutely brilliant. Yes it was literally the 21st take of that song.

Kramer gives an interview, wherein he decided early in his career to stay away from the hard drugs, and not be high in the studio...this is why he is still with us, clear-headed and still working!

@@acidwizard3106 I did a ton of it for a few years and sort of burned out after long enough, but that was of my own doing. I'm getting along pretty well now because I like to think I kept a few of the life lessons after the hippy dippy daydream wore off

That was exactly my reaction to the solo !...and this was back during the Space Race, when many rockets were lifting off towards the stars!

Not to name drop, but my father in law is Billy Kristian the bassist that toured with alot of the bands that came out for US/Asia Pacific tours during the late 60's and 70's, so I have been blessed with the fun of playing on Bill Wyman's Bass (gifted to him after one of the Stones tours), and was able to fool round in the studio with bands that came for recording gigs in the NZ Studio (i think most recently The Herbs). What you do in the booth is so under estimated in the mainstream understanding of music so thank you for giving this clip. It was awesome.

Kramer was a good engineer in the right place at the right time, and obviously had a good working relationship with Jimi, but that does not make him a genius. Seems like a nice guy but incredibly over-rated like George Martin with all this '5th Beatle' bullshit. No. These guys were effectively pressing record.
