@@waynesilverman3048 There is an awesome, cleaned up version now on RU-vid, of Hendrix and Mitchell, jamming in a hotel room in early 1970...rare stuff, at times quite "Jazzy", and Jimi is on an acoustic guitar!...This event, taped by Hendrix, who added some echo to it, really shows how brilliant his fluid, explorative technique was! Mitchell kept time, by banging away on various objects, books, hand-clapping, etc.
FYI...My written review of the 23 May concert in Seattle...has been published in Univibes #45....and also can be found in the excellent series of books by Valkhoff and Garuti...The extended display of the San Jose photos is interesting...then again, those photos have been edited heavily, chopped up, and zoomed into, repeatedly.
Excellent episode, great insight mixed with dates name's & places not to mention the pics from the time & places spoken of. Love the Santana & Tom Huelet bit also saw Steve Martin opening for someone in one of your paper clip shots, great stuff. Thank you J.H.E.🤟
Seattle...home, sweet? home. Some jerk just listed Jimi Hendrix as one of the top 25 alcoholics in rock history. I told him he was so wrong. Jimi partied and sadly it killed him, along with the business. But in Seattle he drank with his dad and had a bad hangover. Sweden, arrested. Jimi was a lightweight drunk. I told him to do his homework. Timothy Leary was a devil disguised as an angel. A very evil man. Later on Jimi says, "I contribute my success to God." Amen. What people should get out of these great posts from BBW is the times and the business were ruthless. Before Jimi the Beatles were in Hamburg doing 8 shows and doing speed. The fact he was establishing Electric Ladyland Studios showed his forward thinking but the marrow had been drained from his bones by the end.
Good points...but Hendrix said a lot of things that are subject to interpretation...He admitted to being of two minds, about many things...he, at one point, wanted to not be part of establishing Electric Lady Studios...and while he did say that he was a "messenger", he later modified what he meant by that statement. Jimi was the greatest guitarist of his times--but he had issues, for sure!
She was just one of Jimi's female friends/lovers...no talent offered by her...the poor woman, in a rare interview, actually thought she would eventually marry Jimi...Instead, she died from heroin abuse, about 5 months after Jimi died. She was only 22 when she died, but had "made the rounds" with several famous Rock stars, like Morrison, Jagger, etc. Poor girl thought she was special...but she was just another groupie, who would sometimes irritate Jimi, by shooting up heroin right in front of people, at parties. She had apparently fallen/jumped from a 5th floor window, so some say it was suicide, others say she had passed out while being a little too high. Early death seemed to haunt Jimi's entourage of friends and lovers.
@@kennyblackbird5674 Nope...SHE thought so...but Jimi had such a "relationship" with several other women, like Carmen B, Jeanette Jacobs, Colette Mimram-Herron, and a few more. Add in the many one-night-stand ladies...None of these women were "soulmates"!...As Jimi said--"No one can get close to me, if I don't want them to..." Devon was likely the most damaging to Hendrix, as she flaunted drugs and casual sex whenever she felt like it. Billy Cox commented, that near the end, "Devon was giving Jimi Hell, at that time"....
Noel thought that "they brought in" Billy, because he - Noel - was asking too many questions. Right, Noel, highly convincing! I wonder whether he really believed that? Regardless, this is another excellent episode, packed with fascinating details. Thanks, Belly Button Window!
JAZZ, he wouldn't have gone into the dissonance of allover the place as long as it was in key, jazz , but if it didn't swing it wouldn't have lasted very long. He must swing and groove or it won't be electric church music.
Sad the critics that once praised him turned a blind eye to all the crap he had to deal with instead of just getting to play what he wanted . Sadly equipment back then was not a reliable as what we have now. Not fun to play when you amps sound like crap. Personally i do think just for the sake of the fans he should have gutted it up & just jammed a few numbers & he could have been on his way.
Jimi relied on a real tight connection between his amp and guitar for feedback and sonic balance...to scupt his music a bad ground can ruin this making the amps hum at 60hz which is a loud B note. if yu can play against that good luck...jimi also played tuned to e kinda e flat . which is a tritone away. not a good sound when combined eith a B note drone. this is too psycodelic lol
We can only imagine the sounds that could have been had Jimi collaborated with Herbie Hancock. I heard there were plans with Stevie Wonder but that didnt happen neither
How I wish!...amazingly, nothing like that has turned up, after all this time!..I attended, and can guarantee you, he played astonishingly well that evening! BTW, that story about Jimi and his gal pal Carmen, given a tour around Seattle by some random fan with a VW...has been questioned severely by many people who were around Jimi and his family, that evening.
