A WINDOW INTO THE LIFE & TIMES OF JIMI HENDRIX

"The greatest instrumentalist ever" said the Rock'n'roll Hall of Fame.
Or, “One of the most original, most inspired artists to have ever lived.”
Whatever your opinion, “His music has a timeless quality which defies description", and still remains powerful today.
Jimi is being “rediscovered” by successive generations, and this will continue, for a very long time to come, and given that few got really close to him, despite being one of the most successful musicians in the world.
Was he guided towards a higher purpose, to help others find themselves through his music?
In retelling the story, we hope to reveal the person behind the remarkable life.

NOTE: We are in no way connected with, nor are purporting to represent, Jimi Hendrix, or the Hendrix Estate. We are merely, individuals deeply touched by his music who seek to promote the facts and events behind the person and his legacy.

A crappy movie that exploits the stoned out counter culture with no proper plot or sequencing! You're STILL doing the blurring/smearing of the pictures which really sucks and takes away from your otherwise great work.

The jacket Hendrix wears was offer by two ladys I think , because Jimi with this jacket was taken in photo with one lady each side left-right . Maybe a gift . 13:47 In the video of Woodstock Jimi finished Voodoo Child and began The stars spangled banner . The riff he play at the end of Voodoo before The stars is incredible , the sound , the style , the bracelet in gold at his wrist is magic . Supernatural ! I stuck in that moment .

Saw the movie in a drive in, I remember being disappointed that Jimi had so little time on screen, and the concert sounded really bad, especially through drive in speakers. Found an LP (at Kmart) in a plain white cover stamped “Incident at Maui- Jimi Hendrix”. Got it home and the vinyl was see-through yellow with only a paisley pattern in the center where song titles should be. The sound quality was horrible, it had obviously been a bootleg from a cassette recorder someone had in the audience, because you could hear people talking. But it had a cool version of “Villanova Junction” and some other songs that would eventually be on Cry of Love. I only paid $1, so it was totally worth it. Let somebody “borrow” it and never saw it again. Last year I was on Maui and found the field where the concert was, and saw the building where Jimi pretends so shoot out of the window. It’s a girls academy or something now.

Thank you for this "Rainbow Bridge" special. Whilst listening, I wondered whether some critical annotations should have been added to the interview with Chuck Wein. Upon reflection, however, I think that it is fine to allow that source to stand as it is. Each listener can make up his or her own mind regarding Chuck's comments. Personally, I tend to concur with Eddie Kramer's assessment of Chuck - and also with Mitch's more direct viewpoint as expressed at the close of this episode, which echoes Gerry Stickells' take, too. At best, Chuck was what Americans might call a grifter and Brits a wide boy... and that's being kind, in my opinion.

I know that many people hate Rainbow Bridge, and that it doesn't really work well as a film, but it is nevertheless a very interesting piece when it comes to capturing the zeitgeist of the late sixties, in particular the more extreme fringes of the hippy movement. It was an exciting, strange, and sometimes downright off the wall period of recent history. It also makes me wonder sometimes would Jimi still have been Jimi as WE know him without all of those heightened energies around him? How did it all affect his vision, creative process, and evolution as an artist? All of that adulation, and the expectation that he was a figurehead for a new liberated western consciousness. It must have weighed heavily on him. Not that he wouldn't have still had his unique genius, but in the end, the late sixties seemed to free him to explore his FULL potential. For better and worse, as it also exposed him to a LOT of dangers and pitfalls I guess. We all know how it ended, sadly. It's an absolutely fascinating study. His stoned rap later in the movie is very interesting though. The common perception of Jimi is as a very sweet, but spaced out cat with a lack of awareness of what was going on around him. When It was clear that he was a very open minded, but also very self aware individual, and no fool. He called out the 'wizard' on his b.s. - in the nicest possible way of course - and in the song if 6 was 9, he saw how being a hippie, with its own dress code, language, and beliefs was just another type of conformity to be avoided. Strange too how he seemed to foresee his own death in a VERY specific fashion. Very eerie. Weird scenes inside the goldmine for sure.

" in particular the more extreme fringes of the hippy movement." Couldn't agree more. astrology kind of started it but new age blew up through the 80's. Feel bad for those seeking but they need to get out of it. I believe Jimi did. I think he is just B.S. ing these people...making stuff up.

This movie and performance, moved me more than anything I have ever heard or seen! Yes the audio isn't the best, the filming wasn't that bad. The editing did suck. The vibe was both high and low. But I both love and hated the film. I don't know if anyone out there knows of all the lost footage of this event! I bought the original CD of this back in the '90's. Then when RU-vid first came out, someone posted a black and white film of this, and it was totally different than the original film! They were filming from the scaffolding in the background. I think some different songs were on it too. Different angles. They took this down years ago😥. I understand the Hendrix family bought the rights to this movie recently and put it out again. I was hoping they would track down this lost footage. It may have been bootlegged. I hope some day it will come out again! ✌🏼

There was a time I walked on the George Washington bridge leaving NYC. There were several holes in the sidewalk where one could easily fall the ~200 feet into the Hudson River. Being involved in construction, of course my mind was racing with questions about the condition of the walkway, what I would do if I felt it give way, why were there no barricades, how would I posture to strike the water, why am I seeing in black and white...? They fell through the holes in the Rainbow Bridge.

As a man of science and critical thinking... all of this just breaks my heart and makes me lose faith even more in humanity.. I am not sure I can afford to give time to watching the film.. The movie is hard to get through, and I get why alot of people commenting don't like seeing that scene of a drunk Jimi rambling about Astral travel,etc...but by that point in the film, it is a much welcomed diversion, and whether he is trolling the wizard or not, that line about choking on the grape/wine is SO eerie!!! But as far as the concert goes, yes it is thin compared to his normal sound overall, and the strong wind definitely affected them (especially Mitch) but, Jimi made the absolute most of this situation, and when you see the 'whole' concert you realize that Jimi was quite aware of the cameras and in turn, gave one of his best vocal performances of 1970 live music IMHO...(and of course, his guitar playing is always a step above and beyond)
@GCKelloch
@GCKelloch День назад
The thin tone is probably due to the Univibe, which did not have a bypass switch and rolled off the bass. His amps would also have had 6550 tubes biased to ~30% at that point, producing a more brittle crossover distortion sound than KT66's at a more standard ~65% bias.

Great work B B W. Personally i would not agree that this concert was good at all! Yes it's Jimi jamming out but i think his tinny tone, an over use of the univive gets hard to listen to quickly. I mostly feel sorry for Jimi because he got pushed into the whole mess by Jeffreys. As usual Jimi showed up an made the best of a bad situation. He did allegedly tell Sharon Lawrence on the phone about enjoying his bed rest after his foot injury, an described the whole rainbow bridge project as some "Michael Jeffreys hippie dippy crap!"

There was a lot of wind during the concerts, which wreaked so much havoc with the recording, that Mitch Mitchell had to attempt overdubs to get a decent drum sound, and which likely contributed to an overall "thin" mix to compensate. Some modern remixes have resolved this to some degree, Trying to do sound in a windy place is still a bummer; Lol! Peace :)

Great video, but let's see where we are all now in 2024. First off Hendrix was murdered, there is no question of this, prime suspect was his manager Jefferies, who even confessed to it in a book by Hendrix roadie in 2009. Secondly, "Sir" Paul Mcartney is not the original McCartney having been replaced in late 1966. They (British bands at the time including The Who) knew this and know this to this day, if any are still alive. Third, we all know about the San Francisco scene and the American musicians at the time (weird scenes at Laurel Canyon) So the question remains, are we learning about how corrupt and fucked up this fascinating period of music history really was? Jefferies, Hendrix Manager, was a terrorist, served in the British Army and killed people, he may of even killed the people on the plane he was meant to have been on in 1973 I think where alledegly he was killed? You just can't make it up!!!!

I also read in Setting Straight that he played a concert that was very good in Hawaii then. You said it was filmed so I am confused. When Atlanta Pop came out in the early 90's I snatched it up immediately. While it is all great what was mind blowing, (Hard for that being a Hendrix fanatic) was the intro before Straight Ahead. He was headlining that night in Georgia where he slogged as a side man so many times. I felt that he was reaching into his soul for that and nailed it so well.
