Michael Jordan literally was the catalyst for all of sneaker culture, and in turn street wear culture. None of it exists without him and Nike.

Yeah but my counter argument is as follows: when you account for the fact that he has had such a head start on selling apparel before he did. Furthermore having colleges have his apparel as an sponsor having the NBA wear his jerseys at Allstar games he had a leg up. In time this may change.
