Excellent idea on showing just 45's. I don't recall ever seeing a show on just singles before. I'm happy to see several Seattle bands making the cut. Ive seen the Fastbacks before in the 90's. Looking forward to checking out your playlist The Joy of the Single.

Hi Tom. I'll definitely be making this an occasional series of videos ... There was a time in the 1990's when I was really into bands from Washington state, due in part to riot grrrl and K Records ... I'm very envious that you saw The Fastbacks live ... Oops, I forgot to add the playlist! It's now added. Thanks for your support. All the best, Carl

Hi JT. I'm enjoying looking through my singles and picking stuff out for more videos ... Back in the 1990's (Brit Pop era) there was a renaissance of vinyl singles. You could get new releases in HMV, and the other big record chain stores, for 99 pence. These days new singles, if you can find them, are way over-priced.
@jtsrecordroom3963
@jtsrecordroom3963 5 месяцев назад

Hi Carl! I wish I owned a copy of the Sham 69 single/sleeve. Fantastic Sundazed singles. The Clash single is off the hook; I've never seen that one before. The Buzzcocks single is killer. I quite like "Kiss Me On The Bus". Agree with you on the sleeve. Cheers!
@carltweed942
@carltweed942 3 месяца назад
Hi Mark. That Sham 69 single is quite a common item in the UK. It still turns up quite often in mint/near-mint condition ... Of course we share a love of Sundazed singles ... I bought all the Clash singles brand-new back in the day. The sleeve on that single is a nice design and a nod of approval to the UK independent labels ... I don't mind 'Kiss Me On The Bus'. It's a great song. I think it's more the lack of imagination by their label when it comes to the sleeve and choice of b-side. It doesn't feel like an 'event' single. Other major labels were able to pull out the stops, e.g Polydor with the Jam and CBS with the Clash.

hey carl. i loved 45s when i was a teen. used to get them for $1/each. loved hanging the picture sleeves on my wall. one of the first record collecting videos i made for youtube was about the last of the 45s i have left. got rid of most of them. cool stuff ya got there. reminds me i gotta dig up some Sham 69. Sire didnt know how to promote Ramones so no surprise they dropped the ball with Replacements either (although the Replacements surely didnt make it easy.) great vid dude!

@carltweed942 5 месяцев назад
Hi Steve. 45's were my introduction to record collecting. You could buy a new single for 49 pence in the 70's (I guess that was about a dollar). We didn't get many picture sleeves in the UK until punk came along. The sleeves were a big part of the appeal ... Sire had so many of my favourite bands, so they had good taste. Unfortunately they struggled to market them well. To be fair, I guess the Replacements could be their own worst enemy! Thanks, Carl

Hi Stevie. Sham 69's story is very messy. There are two Sham 69s! One of them has none of the classic line-up. The other is three-quarters of the 1977 line-up ... I can't get Buzzcocks' 'Promises' out of my head! The middle 8 is inspired.
