Hey Carl, Love that Pirates album, one of my favorites back in the day. I've never owned that Dennis Wilson record. I've always wanted it but I never seen it used on CD. I have Love and Syd Barrett disc's and they are great as well. Sweetheart Of The Rodeo is my favorite record by the Byrds. Great choices!

The Buckley story is tragic. Such a young death - with a similar story as Janis. (quit H came back to it and it was too strong a dose). His stretch between Blue Afternoon, Lorca and Star Sailor was completely misunderstood but amazing.

I really liked how you did your top ten. Not a lot of explanation before, just a brief statement that all of this is subjective, and secondly you didn't try to talk down or impress everyone with your vast knowledge of music. In short you seem like the type of guy in whom it would be enjoyable to sit back and just listen to records with.

Hi Mike. I do have quite a few old music magazines. I like them as a time capsule of what was actually happening, before the music historians start re-writing events to fit their agenda ... Yes, it's pretty difficult to argue with the running order on Love's 'Revisited' ... The Uni Boys are still very much a cult band. Their label Curation was set up by a chap who is in Beachwood Sparks. There are a couple of fun videos on RU-vid. All the best from the UK, Carl

Some belters there Carl. I have to admit to loving Band on the Run although I've probably heard it enough!. I only ever bought the Story of the Clash, never investigating their albums further, I really should remedy that. I've often seen that Tim Buckley album but never picked it up for some reason . That Love comp looks terrific and what a treat seeing Arthur Lee live performing Forever Changes, I would've lived to have seen that. All the best. Rob.

Hi Rob. It's so annoying when you've heard something too many times. It used to happen a lot in the 70s when I'd listen to the radio and eventually get sick of whatever was in the charts ... I have to take breaks from my all-time favourite albums because you can have too much of a good thing ... I suppose the Clash can be a bit of an acquired taste. Their music is so varied that I never tire of it ... I saw Arthur Lee a few times after he got released from prison. He was always excellent. Thanks for watching. Take care.

Hi Alan. I enjoyed picking these records out. The Syd Barrett comp is excellent. I was reading up about it on Amazon earlier; and thinking I may get the CD also ... 'Combat Rock is definitely worth a re-visit. I just replied to a comment from Vinyl Richie; he said 'Car Jammin' is his favourite track on the album ... Zigzag is still the best music magazine I've ever read. The writing style makes it so readable, and the depth of knowledge is off-the-scale (especially when you think of the time when it was being published). All the best from the UK, Carl

Hi JT. If you get over to England, Cambridge should definitely be on your short-list of places to visit ... I love Tim Buckley. 'Sweet Surrender' is special ... Love's 'Revisited' is a nice comp to have, even if you have the original albums ... It seemed slightly strange to find the Clash breaking big in America. By the time they played Shea Stadium with the Who, Topper Headon had left the band and it was the beginning of the end. Headon was such a good drummer. The Who wanted him to join them. Thanks for watching. Take care, Carl

@carltweed942 Год назад
Hi Jon. So good to hear from you. Yes, this video probably revealed my core musical tastes more than any other I've done ... That Dennis Wilson album gets better and better over time. I remember the album receiving a 3-out-of-10 review in the New Musical Express. It just shows how wrong music critics can be. I have an original vinyl copy; though the one I showed was the Sundazed reissue with loads of extra tracks and the unreleased 'Bambu' LP ... That Pirates album is sensational; both the live side and the studio side. Mick Green was one of the greatest guitarists to come out of England. I never got to see them live sadly ... Summer weather here has been hit and miss! Take care, Carl
@bipbopboom
@bipbopboom Год назад
@@carltweed942 the Sundazed has the bonus tracks? Good to hear! Definitely need that! When I listen to that album, I picture it playing along to footage of Dennis’s life. Weird, I know! And the last two tracks (Mexico and the other) are when Dennis floats out to sea. A little nutty to say my thoughts out loud, but it’s such a fantastic record! Hi Brian. The Clash's career is very frustrating - especially 'Cut The Crap' (with the exception of 'This Is England'), down to the involvement of manager Bernie Rhodes. Hi Martin. 'Forever Changes' shouldn't work, but it just seems to touch your soul. Seeing Arthur Lee perform the album was a special gig ... I suppose Syd Barrett is an acquired taste. Are you familiar with The 101ers, the band Joe Strummer was with before the Clash, there’s a great album of there material from that period 1974 to 1976 and even some live tracks, very raw and an essential listen since your a Joe Strummer fan! I used to collect Zigzag, they invented the rock tree, I remember 😊. I have the Pirates album Skull Wars, it has some live tracks from the Hope & Anchor pub in Islington London, I lived just a 5 minute walk away, from 1969 to 1977, saw them and many other great bands, like The Police, Kilburn and the High Roads etc, great days 🎉
