The Jungle, Chumstick Mountain, and Section 4: Norden 901 on the Washington BDR, Day 3

The Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (WABDR) takes adventure motorcycle riders through some of the most remote and beautiful country in the state of Washington. The entire Washington BDR is loaded with amazing views, but the best most consistently amazing sights are on WABDR section 4. This section runs from Lake Chelan to Cashmere, and winds through some of the highest and most beautiful peaks in Washington like Chumstick Mountain.
As we were riding the Washington BDR backwards (North to South), the beginning of WABDR section 4 for us was the infamous "Jungle" section. The second I started up the steep, loose road on my Husqvarna Norden 901, it became obvious that this section was well named. The WABDR Jungle is a very overgrown two track road, made even more treacherous by its proximity to a sheer drop off all the way back down to Lake Chelan.
After conquering the climb through the Jungle on my Norden 901 (with a stop in the middle to catch my breath), we headed into the mountainous parts of Washington BDR section 4, culminating in some amazing views atop Chumstick Mountain, an old fire lookout peak with amazing 360 views of the surrounding mountains.
After descending out of the mountains, we finished up Washington Backcountry Discovery Route section 4 in Cashmere, stopped for some dinner and fuel at a gas station, and headed up into the woods for some BDR dispersed camping for the night.

Stopping and collecting yourself is one of the reasons I watch you. You’re one of the realest RU-vidrs, not just showing hook footage. These BDRs get in your head. If you can’t recognize it and stop to rest for a little bit you’re bound to get fatigued and crash. So much physical exertion and mental exertion. You, my friend, are the real deal!

This is a phenomenal video, especially for recently novice riders particularly familiar with go pro footage on a personal level and how it absolutely fails to produce an accurate depiction of the severity and steepness of trails. I have ridden the Jungle section twice. Once a few weeks ago and then again last Friday 10/14/22. I was on my DRZ with no gear. I was just out for a day ride. I went uphill both times. One thing I've decided is that I won't ride the Jungle when I do the entire BDR on my loaded down T7. The Jungle really should be labeled/advertised as a "difficult option", more suited for smaller, lighter adventure bikes. Loaded down mid-sized or larger adventure bikes won't have fun on the Jungle section, either up or down hill.

Section 3 was probably the knarliest in my opinion, section 2 was a close second. Honestly it was far more technical than I expected and a ton of fun, you can tell it's gotten more and more beaten up over the years. Some of the logging areas were super ate up.

I know about GoPros and how they can tend to minimize ruts and steep hills. However, I have not seen anything in this Washington BDR so far that YOU could not have completed on your Africa Twin. And as you migrate to the bigger bikes, again, you will have come full circle when you get another Africa Twin, GSA, KTM, Triumph or any of the big adventure bikes. As a content creator you do a nice job and I really liked the Touratech rally and the Giant Loop rally videos. That is far more interesting than new bikes and how they compare to other bikes. Some of content motorcycle creators that have one million subscribers ride the same motorcycle just to different interesting places.

Hi Dork, Really nice vid. I like it that you make stops and then show us around a bit. This is how i also most of the times are riding. Then you keep some energy on reserve and also is making the ride more fun towards the end. How are you feeling about the handling of the Norden as an allroad ? great videos on the 901. quick question on wet weather protection. Have you been in any heavy downpours or long trips in the rain? Im thinking leg protection is good with the fairings and tanks but the screen seems to not do much for wind let alone rain at speed? thanks!!
