I currently own the RMC 1L. I think I’ve had about it about 4 years now. I agree that this unit has had a few bugs since I’ve owned it but less since all of the firmware updates. It was actually operating perfectly before the last firmware update was installed where the input is selected automatically from the source signal. Although I would love for the unit to have some of the features you mentioned, it has been a great processor and the sound is phenomenal with music and movies. One tip I would give while using Dirac live room correction is to use a different mic than the one supplied. I used the Umik-2 microphone and the bass and dynamics are much improved. I enjoyed the review but actually didn’t notice or forgot about some of the features the unit lacked.

Thanks for review again. Been happy with our RMC1-L overall, especially with latest firmware. It's not perfect, and does have few issues which you have mentioned. But it really does sounds amazing. If the plus upgrades correct the remaining issues, Emotiva will have a genuine giant killer. Hopefully the new HDMI board, and much more powerful CPU get this performing to a level the majority are happy with. Even with Emotiva past issues, I really have a good feeling with the new plus upgrade. Thanks again for your review.

I agree they could have a true giant killer if they get their UI and bugs figured out. Fingers crossed their new HDMI 2.1 plus models are what everyone has been waiting for.

Love the transparency. Another great review. I think a lot of these bugs can be fixed by firmware upgrades. And im sure by now some of these issues have already been addressed. Personally I would like to see a cleaner user interface!

Well I can only speak for the Emotiva Xmc-2 , coming from a Onkyo Processor it was like day and night with the sound quality .hands down the Emotiva sound is impeccable. my processor had bugs of course but after a major update it works flawless .

Well as a long time XMC-1 user (2015) I'm surprised to hear that the Emotiva processors still have the same issues... Yes I have worked around most of the quirks of the XMC-1 by using a Harmony Elite remote so the other users at home don't "upset" the device when switching HDMI inputs etc. And I really love the sound quality. But then again those bugs...........

The HDMI bug is a big one. Glad to have hope that they may have an update soon to fix it. I reached out to Emotiva regarding no upmixing to use the front wides. If you have these speakers, you are limited to only a finite few movies. ATMOS just ignores these otherwise, unlike the Trinov which mixes the front wides with positional sound. They are working on this issue. My front wides in the mean time will pretty much just sit there until this update, or the RMC-1 gets upgraded.

Was going to call them with the same issue I thought I hooked up something wrong. So the wide channels are sitting and waiting for that update I wonder If I can get my money back. This sucks. Would saved up and get the av90

The bug from switching from preset to preset is one that I have experienced the most. The same bug also occurs when you leave the processor on too long. The only way to remedy it is to set the processor to not to go into standby but shut down when the unit power button is pressed. The volume adjustment I believe comes from actually completely overriding your crossovers. Well at least that’s what it does to mine. It changes my speakers to large. However the crossover still exist in the system. I know it does this because my speakers start to distort for anything under 60hz playback. Besides this the processor is amazing.

Unfortunately not a product for me, I don’t have the patience to thinker around with bugs. Great that the sound quality is superb, once the GUI is decent and the receiver works correctly might consider.

Nice review. Thanks! I agree almost across the board. The RMC does have nice sound quality but the bugs and quirks just far outweigh it for me. Just so many weird quirks and annoyances and even Emotiva can’t seem to explain why or address them. The snaps and pops drive me nuts and should not be present on a unit of decent quality like this is. Never dealt with such a buggy processor. Very disappointed in it overall. Wish they could get them figured out

Great review! Until now I assumed Emotiva was a great brand. Which in some ways they are. They look fantastic, build quality, and value. I have a Onkyo RZ50 now, (Dirac also) it worked flawlessly out of the box, zero issues. Sounds really good both with the built in power or using the pre outs into amplifiers. Many other brands do the same. My NAD M17v2 was great. Minor issues are common, but the RMC 1L seems to have a couple flat tires. Can't blame you for sending it back. I would.

Thanks brother! I think Emotiva is still a great brand, but they either need to up their game with their processors, or just stop making them. Your NAD M17 did sound amazing, Dirac also did a great job calibrating your subs for your room.

@SpecOfTech I had the RZ 50 as well and that unit is packed with features! Unfortunately I just could not like the sound, it was not the clear sound iwas looking for. Don't get me wrong it is still fantastic for the price and fully loaded, solid AVR. I'm testing the Marantz Cinema 70 right now and that thing running on my external amp is really sweet and a snap to setup; easy as c a n be! I'm still waiting on Emotiva to bring it in and I will keep the Marantz sound is pretty damn good! Already know Emo will cream it in the sound department so I will sit and wait!

Are you still very happy with Genesis ARC and the reliability of the Anthem AVM90? I am considering that model and the Marantz AV10. I have been testing out Dirac Live with a Denon x4800 and it has been fairly reliable to use. Audyssey MultEQ-X is very good as well. But ARC Genesis seems to be the best, most consistent and reliable room correction based on people's opinions.

I am very happy with the AVM90 and ARC Genesis. It is one of the few stable and reliable processors I have found throughout my journey. Denon and Marantz are also very stable, although I have never used one with Dirac before. ARC Genesis is certainly more user friendly than Dirac, with very similar capabilities. The Anthem WEBUI is also very smooth and intuitive. For me personally, the Anthem AVM90 has it all, great sound, great room correction and just a pleasure to use.

What’s good sir… I have the Emotiva MR-1 I’ve had it for almost a year with no bug issues, I believe a lot of people are sleeping on the unit pls do a review when possible..

I completely agree, I also own that unit, also I did purchased heir Bluetooth etc. Have no issues with the HDMI till I used my IPTV box, then the screen goes black 3 times before finally setting on the screen properly. As for you other issues I do not have any of does at all.

@@SpecOfTech still have the slow and clumsy firmware, and yes I hope they fix all of it, I am what so ever considering the new Anthem 90 8K as per your recommendation. If not I am going crazy and getting another McIntosh MX180 or?

@@oneemotiva4975 Oh nice.! The AVM90 is a sweet piece of kit. If you are considering stepping up from the AVM90, I would recommend Storm Audio or Trinnov.

Emotiva has had these issues for at least 3 years. They should get out of the processing game or get it together. I know 3 people that returned their pre amps for these same issues (especially HDMI). They too said it sounded great, but for 3k it was just too aggravating. I will stick with Marantz. When it comes time to upgrade my AV7705 it will be another Maranzt. Tried and true.

Your experience mirrors my own. I will probably do the RMC-1L to RMC-1L+ trade-in upgrade in 2024 (or 2025, or whenever it's available). But if that ends up being a bug-infested $hit-show like the current model, I'll take a hammer to it and buy the Anthem.

How’s does the AV41 sound compared to the Emotiva and Anthem? Will you have a full review? I’m switching to a AV40 from a Marantz SR8015

I don't think I will do a review of the AV41. I usually like to spend significant time with a product before I review, unless I am on a time restraint, of course. I don't feel I spent enough time with the AV41 to provide a sincerely valuable review, sorry. I can't say the AV41 was AS good as the Emotiva or AVM90, but it wasn't far off either. It does have top teir sound, especially if you are looking for neutrality. It's just for my use case, the odd bug doesn't work for me. For most consumers, it would be a fantastic unit. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised coming from the Marantz.

I have both Emotiva XMC 2 and Arcam av 40. I believe sonically Emotiva edges out Arcam, but the Arcam has a better use case with more option configurations, Auro 3D and Dirac without the extra switch and raspberry pie.

My guess before watching the video is you returned it because they thought the update would be here by now and it looks like next year will be ground hog year. Should be out in q1, 2, 3 welp maybe next year. In the mean time we are trying to sell off the remaining stock in other countries. Lol I truly hope they get this thing to work great so it can match my amp. By the time they do I'll probably have the money saved up to buy it.

To bad Nad is being with the rest, because it as Dirac live room correction, touch screen, they have fixed all the bugs a few years ago, got wifi streaming, BluOs, but no HDMI 2.1, no Dirac bass cotrol, and stuck to 11.1 channels with their Nad m-17 v2i. With there MDC module, they could had more channels, and include Dirac bass control . It would give the Anthem avm 90 a competition..

Im with you on Emotiva only offers sound. I really want one but not until i see them up to par. It does not make sense at the amount charged to not include 2.1, streaming apps, and a mess when it comes to Dirac. I am willing to pay for those features but it just has not happened at this time. Watching the clunky interface and the constant resetting has me doubting Emotiva right now. Dang it would be nice if it just worked and had all the features on board as other manufacturers do. Sorta feels like buying a brand new broken unit that is bare bones no features. Yes, looks fantastic and everyone says it sounds good but a flat tire every mile; not sure it is going get my money just yet???

Just too much to be bothered with. This is not the first time I heard of Emotiva products having gremlins and Basically not working as expected. One of their budget amps cut off at loud volumes during dynamics parts of movies. Yeah it’s budget, but damn.

Someone shared with me friends don’t let friends buy emotiva processors. They’ve been plagued by bugs and glitches for years. I would submit if they haven’t figured them out by now it’s not likely to get fixed. The last thing I want after a stressful day at work is to have issues with my home theater. That is how I unwind and glitches would drive me crazy.

Arcam AVR20 here. Big money, big bugs. I don't understand how you can spend so much money on something that has such uninformative software. Dumb things on the remote too, like having to hit the amp button every time you want to change the volume or do something that is Stereo focused. I think Arcam owes all of its customers a huge complete firmware update

It was never my intention to make it look like they sell junk. I just wanted to be as transparent as possible with my experience. I definitely wouldn't call their products junk, but they certainly require some attention when it comes to their software and UI.

@@SpecOfTech this isn't a one off thing with Emotiva though. They really dropped the ball sending a reviewer a unit like this lol. I run an a7x in my garage from Emotiva and it's kind of underwhelming. Barely outputs more power than my receiver it seems.

Unlike you sport, most of my viewers value honesty about products. I am part of Emotiva's affiliate program. If I was only about making money like you seem to elude to. I would just tell everyone it's the best thing ever so they use my link to buy them. Also, FYI, Tonewinner is the manufacturer that Emotiva uses to build their products. This is a processor which requires separate amplification. I agree, separates are better, I've been using processors for a few years now.
