Today, we're going to take a largely accurate look at the Kershaw Leek Pocketknife, which is one of the most widely loved knives that I just can't stand. And considering that this is the 1000th review of this knife released this week, I've cut a few corners. Hope you don't mind.

I really like imagining that for someone this is the first review of a Leek that they have stumbled upon and the first Nick review that they have seen.

IamTheInsideOutsider That is the case for me, believe it or not haha. I love the Leek and I had one three or four years ago. I just happened to type in 'Kershaw Leek Review' and clicked this one out of the bunch that popped up for one because it is a newer video, and two it is the first I've seen of this newer looking version of the Leek. I left pretty confused.

This is actually the first review of a Leek I've ever seen, though it is certainly not the first Nick review I've watched; I recently lost my pocket knife (a Kershaw Shallot), and decided to see which Kershaw knives Nick has reviewed in order to make a more informed decision in finding a suitable replacement (I bought that Shallot at least a year or two before stumbling across Nick's videos, or else I probably would have purchased a different knife in the first place).

First Leek review for me. Went looking because Massdrop has the CF version (w/ CPM-154) currently going. $65 and the scales are supposedly a little textured (according to someone else.)

Imma be real, the leak has been my edc, and I mean EDC for three years now. It’s never once given out on me, never once has it slipped and caused me or others injury, the assisted open has proven helpful in one hand only situations (on a thirty foot extension ladder with one free hand) etc. the blade is great for cutting, true, also because of how thin it is, great for precision cutting and other precision tasks (digging up tiny wires etc) The blade stays sharp for a while and is also not too hard to sharpen, and lastly, the light, minimalist design allows me to carry it everywhere, without even noticing it in my pocket. My final review? I functional, trustworthy and lightweight edc pocket knife worthy of its price.

Funnily enough, I was looking into the Leek and went straight for your review before buying it. It's what I was looking for in a knife, and you give the most entertaining and comprehensive reviews I've come across. I've watched reviews for products that I found interesting, but will never actually buy, just to see what you thought about them keep up the great work man

Love my Leek blackwashed D2 composite. When kayaking and bowhunting I carry it (locked) as a neck knife in a Kevlar half-sheath. For that it has no equal (thin as to be unnoticeable) and has cleaned many, many perch for a shore dinner. Haven't accidentally cut myself closing it - but have used it for routine sliver removal and a few other minor surgical tasks. Very fine tip for detail work.

Another great review Nick. I particularly enjoyed the straight edge joke. All your criticisms are valid, yet we are still left with the question: "Why so popular?" There are a few answers, perhaps. I think this is a very aesthetically balanced and sophisticated design. I find it beautiful. Also, believe it or not, I like smooth knives. This may not be such a bad thing in a gentleman's folder. They are easy to pocket and draw, and they are easy on the skin. I actually have very thin skin on my hands (really-I barely have fingerprints). I sand the G10 down on my Spydercos for this reason. Lastly, I enjoy the crazily powerful speedsafe mechanism for some reason. And yes, I will admit it: the Leek composite is my EDC. In the words of the great Bart Simpson, "I don't know why I did it, I don't know why I enjoyed it, and I don't know why I'll do it again".

Great review! If you think 70 dollars is expensive.. I threw down more than 200 euros(that's more than 200 dollars, in dollars) for my Leek. However this was in Belgium in a knife shop that's a hofleverancier (purveyor to the court), ten years ago and for the G-10/s30v version. It's hard to picture a better EDC knife(Although the Para3 comes to mind but as a lefty I really want to try the lock out first) The SpeedSafe is getting a bit weak but after ten years I guess that is to be expected.

My first quality folder was this knife in black almost 20 years ago. I just ordered it again after not having one for 15 years so yeah, I am the one who googled your Leek review. In my half-way gone life, my memory has depleted, if not completely deleted, my experience with it. I got it half price from Knife Center so I can rehash my first gash from this tightly wound vampire. Your criticisms of it actually brought warm fuzzy memories of even fuzzier gauze. I think this is a great knife to prepare new inductees to the knife world for how easy it is to lose focus on safety and the importance of knowing your own blood type. Wish it was with the original steel, but since nobody is watching, i will afford you the attention you are LEEKING (?) yup I pulled a shabby Shabazz. Peace and safe living...

I just bought this, without watching this review first. Big mistake, everything you said was true (well, except the Gondor part). I think they got rid of the plastic part in the safety, it just slides up and down with gravity. The clip--sorry, magazine--was installed upside down. Maybe it's a counterfeit? And that is also how I learned that the smallest Torx screwdriver I own is a T7.

If they made a non-assisted/Speed-Safe Leek with a satin blade and copper handle I would buy it immediately. I love me some Leek! I've had a blackwash Kershaw Leek for around 3 or 4 years now and I completely agree with you about the problems with the resistance it has when closing. To be honest, if I had the choice, I would much rather have a non-assisted Leek than an assisted one. A knife is usually made to be assisted for ease of use and one handed operation but, like you, I've noticed that closing this knife is rather unsafe with one hand. If they came out with a non-assisted version I would buy it in a heartbeat. I absolutely love the size and blade shape on this guy, I find it to look very *sharp*.

This was a good review, and I say that as a person who ONLY carries the Kershaw Leek 1660cb. I (having never tested the difference) wanted to know if there was actually a difference between the leek 1660 and the 1660cb other than the cute little squiggles on the blade lol. I have had several of each and feel like the cb holds an edge better, but that may have been psychosomatic. I do feel the need to note that I have small hands and the leek being so small one of the things you noted as a "bad" is one of the things I like most about it. This knife fits my hand well and the speedsafe strength is something I like about it, that being said... it IS a slippery little bastard and mastering it does take some time BUT after doing so, this is a difficult knife to go away from. THANK YOU for doing this review, it was helpful!

Lol! The leek was actually my first modern folder purchase having only a buck 110 prior to that so it was actually what took me from carrying to collecting knives. Is it the best option available? no but for a entry level usa made quality folder it serves that purpose. The small very thin size makes for an easy carry in jeans which was a concern initially not liking things weighing down my pockets. Now a days however i have no problem carrying a larger knive up to 4" blade under 4.5 oz preferably when its packaged and carries well. While my tastes (and budget) have grown in knives over time i still own a few leeks in my collection including this d2 model. The best leek version is the solid carbon fiber slabbed liner lock w cpm 154. Much better materials and looks. Its a little thicker in the handle and feels better in hand. While i dont really carry them anymore due to having plenty of better options at my disposal i still think the leek has its place. Nick it was Entertaining but please dont use this format again Lmao! It was A good laugh!
